Adaptive particle swarm optimization model for resource leveling

In the process of engineering project construction, the balanced allocation of resources has an important impact on the purchase of actual materials, the progress of the site construction and the arrangement of temporary facilities. Although there have been many studies on the use of evolutionary computation (EC) to solve the fixed duration of the resource-leveling problem, the optimization effect of standard EC to solve the resource-balancing problem in large-scale network design planning is reduced due to the phenomenon of premature convergence of PSO and the complexity of large-scale network planning. Therefore, in this paper, an adaptive dissipative particle swarm optimization (ADPSO) algorithm is used to solve the resource balancing optimization problem for different network-plans scales, and the feasibility of the developed model is verified using four different scaled network plans (databases). At the same time, a solution to the dynamic resource-leveling problem with optimization for a fixed duration is proposed. The results show that the proposed models are suitable for solving the problem of resource-leveling with a fixed duration of optimization of different scale network plans, and their accuracy and stability are significantly improved compared to the state-of-the-art approaches. Moreover, the proposed models are accurate and suitable for combining the calculation method of network planning time parameters with the ADPSO algorithm to realize dynamic resource balancing optimization. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

The inherent black-box nature of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) poses challenges in ensuring safety constraints. This paper, therefore, introduces a DRL reward design inspired by Lyapunov stability theory for safe robot navigation in the presence of obstacles. The navigation problem is formulated as a state-space control problem with close obstacle locations integrated into the state representation. To ensure safe obstacle avoidance, we introduce a novel reward-shaping strategy utilizing a Lyapunov function that discourages fast movement toward obstacles. Our numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the reward design strategy compared to baselines in achieving consistent superior learning with higher mission completion rates while maintaining speeds closer to a desired target speed. In addition, we show that our reward design enables a generally smaller choice for the discount factor for value-function-based DRL algorithms, which can lead to faster convergence. This is possible since the reward design merely penalizes the one-step decay of the Lyapunov function. Furthermore, policy training simulations employ an early episode termination method to constrain exploration and add more valuable samples to the DRL training replay memory. Finally, real-world experiments with a quadrotor validate the ability of our method to safely navigate around varying densities of obstacles. The proposed method consistently takes cautious maneuvers near obstacles by slowing down, achieving greater obstacle clearance compared to baseline, although with an increase in mission completion time.

With the increasing number of IoT devices, there is a growing need for bandwidth to support their communication. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of available bandwidth due to preallocated bands for various services. To address this issue, Cognitive Internet of Things (CR-IoT) enables devices to optimize their efficiency and enhance their communication capabilities by intelligently accessing available bandwidth. This is achieved through the use of soft sensing metrics, where devices continuously monitor the RF environment and transmit data opportunistically in overlay mode if a free channel is detected, or in underlay mode if not. In this paper, a soft sensing metric based hybrid transmission framework is proposed for CR-IoT devices to meet the data rate requirement for the smart city applications. The efficacy of this approach is demonstrated through simulation results. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

Voltage source inverters are widely used in industry due to their high control performance and efficiency in electric motor drive systems. The output voltage of inverter at the switching instance causes the generation of bearing current, leading to bearing damage. To investigate the impact of bearing currents on bearing damage, this paper first analyzes the mechanism of bearing currents. Then, a control method for bearing current reduction is proposed. The two-phase pulse-width modulation method that considers the saliency of IPMSM and a capacitive filter topology is presented and verified by experiments in commercial electric vehicle drive system. As a result, the bearing current is reduced by 91% in comparison with space vector pulse-width modulation. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper discusses the reduction of background noise in an industrial environment to extend *** the Industry 4.0 era,the mass development of voice control(speech recognition)in various industrial applications is possible,especially as related to augmented reality(such as hands-free control via voice commands).As Industry 4.0 relies heavily on radiofrequency technologies,some brief insight into this problem is provided,including the Internet of things(IoT)and 5G *** study was carried out in cooperation with the industrial partner Brose CZ spol.s.r.o.,where sound recordings were made to produce a *** experimental environment comprised three workplaces with background noise above 100 dB,consisting of a laser/magnetic welder and a press.A virtual device was developed from a given dataset in order to test selected commands from a commercial speech recognizer from *** tested a hybrid algorithm for noise reduction and its impact on voice command recognition *** virtual devices,the study was carried out on large speakers with 20 participants(10 men and 10 women).The experiments included a large number of repetitions(100 times for each command under different noise conditions).Statistical results confirmed the efficiency of the tested *** welding environment efficiency was 27%before applied filtering,76%using the least mean square(LMS)algorithm,and 79%using LMS+independent component analysis(ICA).Magnetic welding environment efficiency was 24%before applied filtering,70%with LMS,and 75%with LMS+*** workplace environment efficiency showed no success before applied filtering,was 52%with LMS,and was 54%with LMS+ICA.

Learning Probabilistic Coordinate Fields for Robust Correspondences

We introduce Probabilistic Coordinate Fields (PCFs), a novel geometric-invariant coordinate representation for image correspondence problems. In contrast to standard Cartesian coordinates, PCFs encode coordinates in correspondence-specific barycentric coordinate systems (BCS) with affine invariance. To know when and where to trust the encoded coordinates, we implement PCFs in a probabilistic network termed PCF-Net, which parameterizes the distribution of coordinate fields as Gaussian mixture models. By jointly optimizing coordinate fields and their confidence conditioned on dense flows, PCF-Net can work with various feature descriptors when quantifying the reliability of PCFs by confidence maps. An interesting observation of this work is that the learned confidence map converges to geometrically coherent and semantically consistent regions, which facilitates robust coordinate representation. By delivering the confident coordinates to keypoint/feature descriptors, we show that PCF-Net can be used as a plug-in to existing correspondence-dependent approaches. Extensive experiments on both indoor and outdoor datasets suggest that accurate geometric invariant coordinates help to achieve the state of the art in several correspondence problems, such as sparse feature matching, dense image registration, camera pose estimation, and consistency filtering. Further, the interpretable confidence map predicted by PCF-Net can also be leveraged to other novel applications from texture transfer to multi-homography classification. © 1979-2012 IEEE.

Fuzzy utility mining considers high-utility fuzzy itemsets as valuable knowledge by integrating quantities of items, their profits, and meaningful fuzzy terms derived by quantities according to membership functions. In fuzzy utility mining, the utility value of a fuzzy itemset in a transaction will always be greater than or equal to those of its subsets, so the measurement of fuzzy utility is an unfair evaluation method. Therefore, the fuzzy average-utility mining problem was issued in 2020, and three solutions were proposed to solve fuzzy average-utility itemsets as two-phase fuzzy average-utility algorithm (TPFAU), two-phase method with tree-based structure (HFAUIM) and one-phase approach with tree-based structure (FHFAUIM), respectively. The second and third methods decrease the candidates generated compared to the first. However, the sorting strategy for mining steps for the last two approaches is based on the frequencies of items in a database and then inserting items of a transaction into a tree in descending order of their frequencies, thus spending more computing time on deriving the actual fuzzy utility value of itemsets. To overcome the above-mentioned problem, this paper adopts a different sorting strategy with a tree-based structure and then by using it to design an algorithm named IFHFAUIM to mine high fuzzy average-utility itemsets. It reduces the storage of required fuzzy utility values in tree nodes and recovers them through tree traversal. Computational experiments show that the proposed method could make a good trade-off between execution time and memory usage. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently, the internal management knowledge of electric power research enterprises is difficult to integrate and structured organization, resulting in greatly reduced decision-making efficiency. Knowledge Graph(KG), as an efficient knowledge organization, helps to connect the complex knowledge network. However, for a Q&A platform based solely on knowledge graphs, it can be challenging to interpret and analyze natural language input, especially when considering historical Q&A data. In this paper, we combine the KG with a Large Language Model(LLM), choose the ERNIE model fine-tuned by the text of electric power domain knowledge, and use the TransE method to integrate the KG into the model's structure to build a knowledge-based Q&A system that assists researchers in decision-making. The experimental results show that the ERNIE model combined with KG outperforms the comparison model in terms of precision, recall, and F1 value in entity and relation classification tasks, and the performance is further improved by increasing the number of attention heads. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Erasable-itemset mining has become a popular research topic and is usually used for product production planning in the industry. If some products in a factory may be removed without critically affecting production profits, the set composed of them is called an erasable itemset. Erasable-itemset mining is to find all the removable material sets for saving funds. This paper extends the concept of erasable itemsets to consider customer behavior with a sequence of orders. We consider the scenario that when an item (material) is not purchased, a product using that material cannot be manufactured, and clients will cancel all their orders if at least one such order exists. We propose a modified erasable-itemset mining algorithm for solving the above problem. Finally, experiments with varying thresholds are conducted to evaluate the execution time and mining results of the proposed algorithm considering customer behavior. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Distributed Nash equilibrium for pursuit-evasion game with one evader and multiple pursuers

This paper investigates the pursuit-evasion problem involving one evader and multiple pursuers with limited sensing capability, where the evader tries to maximize the distance with the pursuers, while the pursuers have different objectives based on whether they can receive the information of the evader. The subgroup of pursuers who can observe the evader(called leaders) tries to be close to the evader, and the other subgroup of pursuers(called followers) tries to synchronize with their neighbors. When the subgraph formed by all leaders is complete, sufficient conditions are given to guarantee that the pursuers capture the evader and the pursuit-evasion game composed of the evader and leaders reaches Nash equilibrium. Furthermore, for the incomplete subgraph case, the distributed observers are proposed to estimate the relative positions between the evader and all leaders. It is shown that the distributed control strategy based on the observers converges exponentially to the Nash equilibrium solution, and makes the pursuers capture the evader. Finally, simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategies.
