Many application from the bee colony health state monitoring could be efficiently solved using a computer vision techniques. One of such challenges is an efficient way for counting the number of incoming and outcoming bees, which could be used to further analyse many trends, such as the bee colony health state, blooming periods, or for investigating the effects of agricultural spraying. In this paper, we compare three methods for the automated bee counting over two own datasets. The best performing method is based on the ResNet-50 convolutional neural network classifier, which achieved accuracy of 87% over the BUT1 dataset and the accuracy of 93% over the BUT2 dataset.

Sensing systems onboard unmanned vehicles operate in an environment of constrained computational resources. A cyber-Attack may primarily aim to degrade these computing devices and, ultimately, incapacitate the sensing system itself. To prepare a prototype tracking system for degradation, this paper proposes distributed hardware implementation of a Multiple Model estimator on two FPGA units and, after an attack, adaptation of the estimator by leveraging Dynamic Partial Reconfiguration of the single surviving FPGA. The method ensures that the most likely models of the estimator are loaded on to the fabric of the surviving FPGA with minimal interruption. © 2022 IEEE.

Intelligent monitoring systems have evolved due to technological improvement and innovation in biometric identification technology and protecting lives and property. As a result, intelligent monitoring systems are becoming increasingly prevalent. Consequently, this paper proposes the development of an IoT-based Human Tracking system that incorporates the Kalman Filter (KF) Algorithm. Apart from the deployment of the Kalman Filter, analysis was also done with an optimized Kalman filter with PSO (KF-PSO) using Particle Swarm Optimization. Rather than manually tuning the process noise error, R, and measurement error, Q, which are involved in KF, PSO was also used to adjust the errors to obtain their best values for optimal estimation. As a result, a two-dimensional (2D) Kalman filter is developed. The positions and velocities of the object being tracked (i.e., humans) are estimated in x- and y-directions. The proposed system has been evaluated using ten different human datasets, each consisting of 100 samples. The quality performance of KF and KF-PSO models was also compared using accuracy analysis. In comparison, the KF-PSO model yielded an average Mean-Square error of 17 mm (i.e., 1.7% error), while the conventional KF model gave an average Mean-Square error of 22 mm (i.e., 2.2% error). Hence, the KF-PSO model is a better filter than the conventional KF model because of its higher accuracy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In the last three years, a new partner has emerged for teachers and educators in the field of education. The mushrooming of applications based on large language models has greatly shaped the educational development fields of the present era. The use of various AI applications has become commonplace among students and teachers alike. Many questions are being raised by researchers in this field. What does the rapid development of AI applications bring to the field of pedagogy? Should the products of such applications be compared with human performance? The form presented in this thesis seeks to answer similar questions. What is the impact of frequent use of these applications on the literacy level of individuals? In which areas do students tend to use these applications? The results indicate that half of the students believe their literacy levels will decrease with the mass emergence of AI applications, while 36% feel it will not change. However, 88 % of students have already dealt with AI-based applications, with 64 % using them several times or more, suggesting a high level of integration into their educational processes. © 2024 IEEE.

During the COVID19 epidemic, people of all ages from all walks of life around the world have become inevitably familiar with and almost dependent on the digital tools of the age and the opportunities they offer. A change had to take place very quickly that was unprecedented. This process has also affected education. During the time of the reading lock-in, there was a proliferation of digital curricular content. The second time around, online education came to the fore, thanks to less or well-functioning online platforms, and has since become part of everyday teaching. What is the effectiveness and usefulness of sharing knowledge in this way? Is literacy still needed at all? Can online and hybrid (a controlled mix of face-to-face and online) education replace the well-established contact and face-to-face education? The study show that the respondents believe that online education has had an impact on literacy and that it is perceived to have a positive impact. The results indicate that online education has a positive impact on the literacy levels of students, as it facilitates knowledge acquisition and enhances digital literacy skills. © 2024 IEEE.

As disassembly lines evolve, keeping workers safe from all potential dangers has become paramount. This work proposes an improved approach, Proximal Policy Optimization for Disassembly Line(PPO-DL), to address Multi-objective Dis-assembly Line Balancing Problem(MDLBP) that integrates task switching time and hazardous tasks. The MDLBP model aims to optimize disassembly net profit, balance workstation utilization, and mitigate penalties from hazardous tasks. The proposed PPO-DL modifies the action space of PPO to accommodate MD LBP characteristics, ensuring efficient learning by restricting actions to valid ranges through action masking. Comparative experiments with PPO, Q-learning, and A2C demonstrate PPO-DL's superiority in finding near-optimal solutions across various scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

Real-time Safety Helmet-wearing Detection Based on Improved YOLOv5

Safety helmet-wearing detection is an essential part of the intelligentmonitoring system. To improve the speed and accuracy of detection, especiallysmall targets and occluded objects, it presents a novel and efficient detectormodel. The underlying core algorithm of this model adopts the YOLOv5 (YouOnly Look Once version 5) network with the best comprehensive detection performance. It is improved by adding an attention mechanism, a CIoU (CompleteIntersection Over Union) Loss function, and the Mish activation function. First,it applies the attention mechanism in the feature extraction. The network can learnthe weight of each channel independently and enhance the information dissemination between features. Second, it adopts CIoU loss function to achieve accuratebounding box regression. Third, it utilizes Mish activation function to improvedetection accuracy and generalization ability. It builds a safety helmet-wearingdetection data set containing more than 10,000 images collected from the Internetfor preprocessing. On the self-made helmet wearing test data set, the averageaccuracy of the helmet detection of the proposed algorithm is 96.7%, which is1.9% higher than that of the YOLOv5 algorithm. It meets the accuracy requirements of the helmet-wearing detection under construction scenarios.

This paper derives the optimal test channel distribution and the complete characterization of the classical Gorbunov and Pinsker (1973), Gorbunov and Pinsker (1974) nonanticipatory epsilon entropy of multivariate Gaussian Markov sources with square-error fidelity, which remained an open problem since 1974. The paper also formulates a state dependent nonanticipatory epsilon entropy, in which past reproductions are available to the decoder and not to the encoder, the test channel is specified with respect to an auxiliary (state) random process, and the reproduction process is a causal function of past reproduction and the auxiliary random process. This variation is analogous to the Wyner and Ziv (1976) and Wyner (1978) rate distortion function (RDF), of memoryless sources. It is shown that the operational rate of zero-delay codes, with past reproductions available to the decoder but not to the encoder is bounded below by the state dependent nonanticipatory epsilon entropy rate. For the case of multivariate Gaussian Markov sources with square-error fidelity, the optimal test channel distribution and the complete characterization of the state dependent of nonanticipatory epsilon entropy are derived, and also shown that that the two nonanticipatory epsilon entropies coincide. The derivations are new;they are based on structural properties of the stochastic realizations of the reproduction process that induce the optimal test channel distributions. They are derived using, achievable lower bounds on information theoretic measures, properties of mean-square estimation theory, Hadamard's inequality, and canonical correlation coefficients of a tuple of multivariate jointly Gaussian random processes. Applications of the nonanticipatory epsilon entropy and its state dependent variation are discussed to the areas of control of unstable Gaussian systems over limited memory channels, design of causal estimators for Gaussian Markov sources with a fidelity criterion, computation of
