In this study, a distributed system which could be used to detect and track an explosive carrying mobile human is designed. As a novel approach to existing odor detection and tracking methods, a technique which combines odor and sound detection is proposed for increased accuracy. To this aim, a MEMS sensor network including a pressure sensor, an accelerometer, a microphone, an odor sensor and electronic unit is proposed. For the electronic unit of this system a sensor network and least square estimation based sensor fusion algorithm is developed and simulated. The results are evaluated with respect to various paths of two humans, one carrying the explosive. The results show that odor sensing alone is not sufficient for the accurate determination of the odor track, and that by adding other conventional tracking methods, accuracy could be increased.

The paper presents the application of the Cole-Cole model for determining the runs of the return voltage of the paper-oil insulation sample through a computer simulation. Different insulation conditions were simulated through an adequate selection of parameters α and τ of the Cole-Cole model. For calculation purposes, a series - parallel substitute scheme, obtained through approximation of a discrete characteristic operator impedance Za of the model applied, was used. The diagnostics of the simulated insulation condition was based on the analysis of a few selected parameters of the return voltage, obtained from time characteristics.

Acoustic emission measurement results of acoustically induced cavitation bubbles in insulating oil are presented in this paper. Spectral analysis of acquired by a broadband transducer acoustic emission signals is proposed as a diagnostic tool for estimation of aging properties of mineral insulating oils. The article describes the main parts of the designed and built measurement apparatus used for acoustic cavitation investigation in insulating oils. In this note representative results of the experimental data taken from the apparatus are shown.

A novel digital redesign of the analog model-reference-based decentralized adaptive controller is proposed for the sampled-data large scale system consisting of N interconnected linear subsystems with actuator faults. The adaptation of the analog controller gain is derived by using the model-reference adaptive control theory based on Lyapunov method. In this paper, it is shown that the sampled-data decentralized adaptive control system is theoretically possible to asymptotically track the desired output with a specified performance even when actuator faults occur. Then, a method of actuator fault recovery is proposed. With the estimated faults, one can use the proposed input compensation method to solve actuator faults. In this paper, we also introduce a prediction-based digital redesign method to develop the corresponding sampled-data controller for the sampled-data decentralized adaptive control systems.

The Integral Resonant control (IRC) is a simple low-order control scheme that has been introduced as a high-performance controller design methodology for flexible structures with collocated actuator-sensor pairs. It is capable of achieving significant damping, over several modes, while guaranteeing closed-loop stability of the system in presence of unmodelled out-of-bandwidth dynamics. These reasons make the IRC an ideal controller for various industrial damping applications, if packaged in a simple easy-to-implement electronic module. In this work, we propose an analog implementation of the IRC scheme using a single Op-Amp circuit. The goal is to demonstrate that with a simple analog realization of the modified IRC scheme, it is possible to damp a large number of vibration modes. A brief discussion about the modeling, circuit considerations, implementation and experimental results is presented in order to validate the usefulness and practicality of the proposed analog IRC implementation.

The paper presents streaming current distributions measured in an overflow system in both laminar and turbulent conditions. These distributions were taken using a shifting spherical electrode connected with electrometer. For lower values of Reynolds number the profile of current is parabolic. For higher values of Reynolds number the profile is flattened. In this paper also charge density distributions were determined in both cases. In the turbulent regime the volume charge density is distributed in the pipe more evenly compared with the laminar regime.

Super-resolution (SR) is the term used to define the process of estimating a high resolution (HR) image or a set of HR images from a set of low resolution (LR) observations. In this paper we propose a class of SR algorithms based on the maximum a posteriori (MAP) framework. These algorithms utilize a new multichannel image prior model, along with the state-of-the art image prior and observation models. The real decentralized fixed mode radius measures how “near” a decentralized LTI system is from having a decentralized fixed mode (DFM) present. In this paper, some properties of the real DFM radius are discussed, a procedure for computing the actual system parametric perturbations that achieve the real DFM radius is presented, and the real DFM radius is extended to deal with structured perturbations and general information flow constraints. A study of applying the radius to determine how to pair system inputs and outputs to obtain a robust decentralized control system structure with respect to parametric perturbations is also presented.
