This paper develops a novel mechanism for managing the performance and feasibility trade off within predictive control. Specifically, it demonstrates that the potential of Laguerre functions needs more investigation by the community as this offers a simple and effective alternative to the more usual parameterisations using pulse operator in the predictions. The paper develops a simple and efficient dual-mode algorithm using Laguerre functions and demonstrates, by example, the improvements with respect to a conventional approach, in terms of performance and feasibility benefits.

Fuzzy cognitive maps (FCM) have been introduced by Kosko to model complex behavioral systems in various scientific areas. One issue that has not been adequately studied so far is the conditions under which they reach a certain equilibrium point after an initial perturbation. This is equivalent to studying the existence and uniqueness of solutions for their concept values. In this paper, we study the existence of solutions by using an appropriately defined contraction mapping theorem. It is proved that when the weight interconnections fulfill certain conditions the concept values will converge to a unique solution regardless the exact values of the initial concept values perturbations. Otherwise the existence or the uniqueness of equilibrium can not be assured. The results are considered very significant because set the basis for the development of reliable system identification and control schemes based on the concept of FCM. In view of these results recently proposed extensions of FCM, the fuzzy cognitive networks are invoked.

This paper proposes an improved delay-range-dependent stability condition for linear systems with an interval time-varying delay, which satisfies h 1 lesd(t)lesh 2 . The improvement is achieved by representing d(t) as h 1 +h(t) with 0lesh(t)lesh 2 -h 1 , and then constructing a novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional with the idea of partitioning the constant time delay. It is illustrated via a numerical example that the proposed result is much less conservative than those available in the literature.

This paper presents a coordinated design of power automation platform for integrating the various power automation sub-systems. It closely follows the IEC standards (IEC61970, IEC61968, IEC61850) and meets the high demands on operation performance, reliability, expandability, openness and security of modern power system control and management. The design introduces two new concepts: Operation Oriented Architecture (OOA) and Multiple Redundancy, or 1×M redundancy. It also includes a high speed open database connection to various RDBMS databases and an open interface layer to different computer operating systems. Other advanced features are also provided in the new design, including the distributed real time database, the data subscribing mechanism, GUI-based data model editing tools and the full version management mechanisms.

Designed to diminish the artifacts caused by application of the state-of-the-art error concealment methods, a hybrid error concealment scheme is introduced. The proposed scheme stands out by using the inherent spatial redundancy of natural images along with a data hiding technique to obtain the information required for reconstruction of the lost parts of the image at the receiver. Furthermore, to maintain the quality of the received image in high packet loss conditions, an alternative scheme is proposed which will be activated in response to a receiverpsilas feedback reporting a high packet loss ratio. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing methods in terms of the quality of the received image and computational cost.

This paper proposes a continuous-time model predictive control design for disturbance rejection and set-point following of periodic signals. By assuming input disturbance in the form of sinusoid, the periodic frequency is embedded into the design model. Hence, from internal model principle, the steady-state error of the model predictive control system is ensured to be zero for both disturbance rejection and set-point following. Furthermore, with the design framework of model predictive control, hard constraints on the derivative and amplitude of the control signals are imposed as part of the performance specification. Simulation studies have been used to show the efficacy of the design with or without hard constraints.

In this paper, we have concentrated on real systems consisting of structural uncertainties and affected by external disturbances. In this regard, Sliding Mode control (S.M.C.) is utilized. To decrease energy consumption, arising from chattering phenomenon, a smooth switch has been used in design procedure. Consequently, sliding equation will play a dominant controlling role in its neighborhood. The converging property of sliding motion towards the origin is a challenging issue. In this article we present a new method to prove the stability of the sliding phase which means, state trajectories on the sliding surface move toward the origin. At the beginning, the equivalent control method is reestablished such that makes this purpose accessible. The modification bounds the sliding equation to a converging set. Then to improve main factors of closed loop system, such as, transient behavior, energy consumption and the domain of attraction, the optimal control theory is used to compute the optimized sliding surface in the stabilizing set. Generally, desired surface has nonlinear terms. Finally, we propose an elaborate algorithm for computing optimized nonlinear surfaces. The designed controller is applied to a flexible-link setup. Simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed approach.

A novel dual power flow wind power generation system based on electrical variable transmission (EVT) is proposed which combines the advantages of direct-driven and non-direct-driven systems. In this paper, the principles of the dual power flow wind power generation system are presented. The dynamic model and operation modes of the double layer permanent magnet outer rotor based EVT are introduced. Furthermore, the operation processes and control strategies of the novel system are simulated and analyzed. An EVT prototype machine is designed and verified by finite element analysis (FEA).
