This paper presents a millimeter wave (mmWave) radar and Machine vision fusion system to alert drivers of potential pedestrian collisions. The system is composed of two subsystems, the mmWave Pedestrian Localization subsystem and the Machine vision Pedestrian Classification subsystem. The mmWave Pedestrian Localization subsystem obtains the relative location of the pedestrians using a mmWave radar sensor while the Machine vision Pedestrian Classification subsystem uses Histogram of Oriented Gradients and Support Vector Machine algorithms to classify pedestrians in a camera's field-of-view. The two-layer pedestrian detection design protects the system from any miss detections within a single subsystem. By utilizing mmWave technology with Machine vision, the safety operation of cars and pedestrian safety can be increased. The proposed system utilizes Texas Instrument's AWR1642BOOST mmWave Radar with the high computing power of NVIDIA's Jetson Nano © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and implementation of the Machine vision Surveillance System Artificial Intelligence (MaViSS-AI) for Covid-19 Norms using jetson nano. This system is designed to be cost-effective, accurate, efficient, and secure. The proposed system tracks and counts humans for monitoring social distancing and detects face masks using object detection methods. We used YOLO as an object detection method and neural network to detect a person and count them. And for social distancing monitoring the concept of the centroid is based on calculating the distance between pairs of centroids, and thus checking whether there are any violations of the threshold or not. To detect the face mask, a YOLO V4 deep learning model is used as the mask detection algorithm. The system also raises alerts when any suspicious event occurs. Given this alert, security personnel can take relevant actions. This research aims to provide a holistic approach to overcoming the real-time challenges encountered during the monitoring of Covid-19 norms. © 2022 IEEE.

The increasing efficiency of complex Neural Network architecture and the continuous improvement of embedded edge computing has reached a point that allows the deployment of advanced computer vision tasks on some of the most critical embedded applications, such as aerial drones. While similar applications were already possible by moving heavy processing on a ground station, an autonomous and centralized system significantly improves usability and security. The machine is thus self-sufficient and less prone to network attacks. Three main challenges stand-out during the deployment of our complex gesture recognition pipeline: (1) allowing user-defined controls, (2) ensuring robustness, and (3) on-board deployment. These challenges are tackled through handcrafted features to avoid the curse of dimensionality, neural network optimization on GPUbased companion computers, and data augmentation to cover reallife edges cases such as partial inputs. © 2022 IEEE.

The new era of technology is being greatly influenced by the field of artificial intelligence. computer vision and deep learning have become increasingly important due to their ability to process vast amounts of data and provide insights and solutions in a variety of fields. computer vision, deep learning and signal analysis have been used in a growing number of applications and services including smart devices, image, and speech recognition, healthcare, etc., one such device is an infant monitoring system. It monitors the daily activities of the infant such as their sleeping patterns, sounds, and movements. In this paper, deep learning and computer vision libraries were used to develop algorithms to detect whether the infant was in any uncomfortable situation such as sleeping on its back, face being covered and whether the infant was awake. The smart infant monitoring system detects the infant's unsafe resting situation in real time and sent immediate alerts to the caretaker's device. This paper presents the design flow of a smart infant monitoring system consisting of a night vision camera, a Jetson Nano, and a Wi-Fi internet connection. The pose estimation and awake detection algorithms were developed and tested successfully for different infant resting/sleeping situations. The smart infant monitoring system provides significant benefits for safety and an improved understanding of infants' sleep patterns and behavior. © 2023 IEEE.

While promising results have been achieved in weakly-supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS), limited supervision from image-level tags inevitably induces discriminative reliance and spurious relations between target classes and background regions. Thus, Class Activation Map (CAM) usually tends to activate discriminative object regions and falsely includes lots of class-related backgrounds. Without pixel-level supervisions, it could be very difficult to enlarge the foreground activation and suppress those false activation of background regions. In this paper, we propose a novel framework of Cross Language Image Matching with Automatic Context Discovery (CLIMS++), based on the recently introduced Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) model, for WSSS. The core idea of our framework is to introduce natural language supervision to activate more complete object regions and suppress class-related background regions in CAM. In particular, we design object, background region, and text label matching losses to guide the model to excite more reasonable object regions of each category. In addition, we propose to automatically find spurious relations between foreground categories and backgrounds, through which a background suppression loss is designed to suppress the activation of class-related backgrounds. The above designs enable the proposed CLIMS++ to generate a more complete and compact activation map for the target objects. Extensive experiments on PASCAL VOC 2012 and MS COCO 2014 datasets show that our CLIMS++ significantly outperforms the previous state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Deep learning methods like semantic segmentation have gained popularity in computer vision, but challenges remain, particularly in the lack of relevant datasets, such as for humanoid soccer robots. Manually annotating these datasets for segmentation is time-consuming and error-prone. To overcome this, we utilized realistic simulation to quickly generate large datasets and corresponding masks. This paper focuses on applying the u-net architecture on low-end hardware, using a synthetic dataset for training. To evaluate the model, a real annotated dataset was created. Although our Sim-to-Real approach produced a dataset close to reality, the results were unsatisfactory. To address this, transfer learning was employed to fine-tune the network and achieve better accuracy in a real environment. ©2024 IEEE.

This study focuses on the estimation of floating ice distribution on the sea surface from aerial imagery at tidewater glaciers. The presence of ice-mélange in the glacial bay affects ice-loss at the glacier terminus via buttressing of the glacier face, insulation from ocean heat and breaking of oceanic currents. Thus, estimation of its formation, evolution, distribution and dissipation will aid an understanding of climate-change mechanisms at glacial bays. Given the challenges stemming from lack of data and labeled training samples, we employ a pre-trained vision model with zero-shot performance, the Segment Anything Model (SAM). SAM is fine-tuned to perform automatic estimation of floating-ice distribution on a dataset of images collected in Svalbard at various locations and through various modalities, by segmenting the images into floating ice and ocean surface not covered by ice. The Low-rank adaptation technique is employed on the image encoder structure to reduce the training data and hardware resources needed for model fine-tuning. This approach opens new avenues for real-time analysis of glacial dynamics and their implications on global climate patterns. © 2024 IEEE.
