We study the problem of policy estimation for the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) in discrete-time linear timeinvariant uncertain dynamical systems. We propose a Moreau Envelope-based surrogate LQR cost, built from a finite set of realizations of the uncertain system, to define a meta-policy efficiently adjustable to new realizations. Moreover, we design an algorithm to find an approximate first-order stationary point of the meta-LQR cost function. Numerical results show that the proposed approach outperforms naive averaging of controllers on new realizations of the linear system. We also provide empirical evidence that our method has better sample complexity than Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

The development of new products and services allows railway transport to constantly increase the fleet of specialised wagons, which, in comparison with the universal rolling stock, have the best technical and economic indicators. A significant part of cars is delivered by railways, and it is economically reasonable to transport them on a specialised rolling stock. In this regard, the development of a methodology for refined theoretical studies of the strength of bodies of a double-deck rolling stock for passenger cars transportation, the choice of appropriate design schemes and parameters of the bodies, the analysis of the frequencies and forms of their natural oscillations, taking into account the finite stiffness of the elements, are urgent research tasks. The research uses the methods of structural mechanics of rod systems, the applied theory of elasticity, and discrete masses. A wide range of frequencies and forms of the natural free oscillations was obtained using the discrete mass method for a structural scheme with load transfer from the upper to the lower level of the wagon with the help of four racks. The applied methodology of theoretical determination of frequencies and forms of the natural free oscillations of the car transporter wagon by the method of discrete masses is effective. It allows for the estimation of the dynamic characteristics of the wagon. © The Author(s) 2024.

Point Cloud Classification Using Content-Based Transformer via Clustering in Feature Space

Recently, there have been some attempts of Transformer in 3D point cloud classification. In order to reduce computations, most existing methods focus on local spatial attention,but ignore their content and fail to establish relationships between distant but relevant points. To overcome the limitation of local spatial attention, we propose a point content-based Transformer architecture, called PointConT for short. It exploits the locality of points in the feature space(content-based), which clusters the sampled points with similar features into the same class and computes the self-attention within each class, thus enabling an effective trade-off between capturing long-range dependencies and computational complexity. We further introduce an inception feature aggregator for point cloud classification, which uses parallel structures to aggregate high-frequency and low-frequency information in each branch separately. Extensive experiments show that our PointConT model achieves a remarkable performance on point cloud shape classification. Especially, our method exhibits 90.3% Top-1 accuracy on the hardest setting of ScanObjectN N. Source code of this paper is available at https://***/yahuiliu99/PointC onT.

In this paper, we enhance a distributed version of the well known k-means algorithm with privacy-preservation features. While ensuring that sensitive or confidential information remains undisclosed to unauthorized entities (in our case these entities are curious nodes within the network), we maintain the desirable features of the distributed algorithm: the transmitted values are quantized, which optimizes bandwidth utilization and alleviates communication bottlenecks, and nodes possess the ability to collectively determine when to terminate the algorithm, which enables the conservation of valuable resources. We introduce a novel privacy-preserving protocol that not only preserves the privacy of a node's state, but it also ensures confidentiality about its cluster affiliation (i.e., it does not reveal to curious nodes whether a node participates in the update calculation for a specific centroid value). Moreover, we precisely characterize topological conditions that guarantee privacy preservation for individual nodes. Our distributed algorithm allows the formation of exclusive clusters within a finite time frame on any static and strongly connected directed graph. © 2023 IEEE.

Reinforcement learning-based unknown reference tracking control of HMASs with nonidentical communication delays

This paper focuses on the optimal output synchronization control problem of heterogeneous multiagent systems(HMASs) subject to nonidentical communication delays by a reinforcement learning *** with existing studies assuming that the precise model of the leader is globally or distributively accessible to all or some of the followers, the leader's precise dynamical model is entirely inaccessible to all the followers in this paper. A data-based learning algorithm is first proposed to reconstruct the leader's unknown system matrix online. A distributed predictor subject to communication delays is further devised to estimate the leader's state, where interaction delays are allowed to be nonidentical. Then, a learning-based local controller, together with a discounted performance function, is projected to reach the optimal output synchronization. Bellman equations and game algebraic Riccati equations are constructed to learn the optimal solution by developing a model-based reinforcement learning(RL) algorithm online without solving regulator equations, which is followed by a model-free off-policy RL algorithm to relax the requirement of all agents' dynamics faced by the model-based RL algorithm. The optimal tracking control of HMASs subject to unknown leader dynamics and communication delays is shown to be solvable under the proposed RL algorithms. Finally, the effectiveness of theoretical analysis is verified by numerical simulations.

Compact deep-groove-assisted bends on SiN platform for monolithic integrated laser

To build a photonic integration platform that incorporates monolithically integrated light sources which require minimized loss and reflection, a micro-meter scale passive layer is needed in addition to the III-V layer. Low temperature plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) silicon nitride (SiN) is a promising candidate, owing to its back-end-of-line (BEOL) integration capabilities, along with its amorphous structure that allows the growth of defect-free thick layers. In view of the III-V layer stack, the optimized SiN waveguides are thick and in a rib formation. However, bends on this thick SiN platform suffer from high radiation losses, resulting in the need for a bending radius as large as 800 µm that poses challenges for compact photonic integrated circuits (PICs). This paper describes and demonstrates a novel SiN bending structure with a deep etched groove along the outer side. This structure significantly reduces the bending radii to 37 µm with a bending loss of 0.1 dB/90°. A compact micro-ring resonator (MRR) with deep etched grooves is also investigated, exhibiting a substantial enhancement in the free spectral range (FSR) compared with the rib waveguide MRRs, while offering a passband of 39.1 GHz. These notable performance improvements pave the way for compact integrated emitters on a single substrate. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group (formerly OSA). All rights reserved.

Driven by ubiquitous digitalization and cyberattacks on critical infrastructure, there is a high interest in research on the security of cyber-physical systems. If an attacker gains access to protected and sensitive information, such as the internal states of a control system, this is considered a breach of confidentiality. Access to sensitive information can be the first step in a larger cyber-attack scheme, such as a stealthy false data injection attack. Considering process and measurement noise in the plant, existing research investigated when an attacker equipped with a Kalman filter can perfectly estimate the internal controller states if the attacker has access to plant measurements and all model parameters. For this estimate to converge, the controller is required to have stable poles. In this paper, we show that if the attacker has access to the control inputs instead of the plant measurements, the controller needs to have stable zeros. Additionally, we demonstrate that an attacker equipped with an Unknown Input Observer, using tools from delayed system inversion, can get a delayed yet perfect estimate of the controller states from the control inputs without knowledge of the plant's parameters and noise characteristics. Lastly, we present simulation results from a three-tank system to showcase the differences in controller state estimation. © 2024 IEEE.

We consider a class of multi-agent optimal coverage problems in which the goal is to determine the optimal placement of a group of agents in a given mission space so that they maximize a coverage objective that represents a blend of individual and collaborative event detection capabilities. This class of problems is extremely challenging due to the non-convex nature of the mission space and of the coverage objective. With this motivation, greedy algorithms are often used as means of getting feasible coverage solutions efficiently. Even though such greedy solutions are suboptimal, the submodularity (diminishing returns) property of the coverage objective can be exploited to provide performance bound guarantees. Moreover, we show that improved performance bound guarantees (beyond the standard (1-1 / e) performance bound) can be established using various curvature measures of the coverage problem. In particular, we provide a brief review of all existing popular applicable curvature measures, including a recent curvature measure that we proposed, and discuss their effectiveness and computational complexity, in the context of optimal coverage problems. We also propose novel computationally efficient techniques to estimate some curvature measures. Finally, we provide several numerical results to support our findings and propose several potential future research directions. © 2024 IEEE.
