Soft x-ray emission and absorption spectroscopy of the O K-edge are employed to investigate the electronic structure of wurtzite ZnO(0001). A quasiparticle band structure calculated within the GW approximation agrees well with the data, most notably with the energetic location of the Zn 3d–O 2p hybridized state and the anisotropy of the absorption spectra. Dispersion in the band structure is mapped using the coherent k-selective part of the resonant x-ray emission spectra. We show that a more extensive mapping of the bands is possible in the case of crystalline anisotropy such as that found in ZnO.

The planar metamaterial transmission (MTL) line is a consequence of extraordinary permittivity and permeability. As it is known well, the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) has unique property of an infinite-wavelength wave at specific non-zero frequency because of zero permittivity and permeability [1-2]. Recently, the infinite wavelength resonator antenna based on the fundamental infinite wavelength property of artificial epsilon-negative (ENG) and mu-negative (MNG) TLs was also presented [3-4]. In this paper, dual band antennas using epsilon zero resonance (EZR) and mu zero resonance (MZR) are presented. Since an infinite wavelength of artificial ENG and MNG TLs occurs when their permittivity and permeability are zero, the resonance frequency does not depend on its electrical length. To design dual-band antennas, two ENG and MNG resonators with different resonance frequency which supports the infinite wavelength are analyzed. The resulting characteristics of dual band antennas using the metamaterial TLs will be presented.

This paper introduces a new framework for confidentiality preserving rank-ordered search and retrieval over large document collections. The proposed framework not only protects document/query confidentiality against an outside intruder, but also prevents an untrusted data center from learning information about the query and the document collection. We present practical techniques for proper integration of relevance scoring methods and cryptographic techniques, such as order preserving encryption, to protect data collections and indices and provide efficient and accurate search capabilities to securely rank-order documents in response to a query. Experimental results on the W3C collection show that these techniques have comparable performance to conventional search systems designed for non-encrypted data in terms of search accuracy. The proposed methods thus form the first steps to bring together advanced information retrieval and secure search capabilities for a wide range of applications including managing data in government and business operations, enabling scholarly study of sensitive data, and facilitating the document discovery process in litigation. Inherent asymmetry in the tunneling barriers of few-electron quantum dots induces intrinsically different tunneling currents for forward and reverse source-drain biases in the nonlinear transport regime. We demonstrate that in addition to spin selection rules, overlap matrix elements between many-body states are crucial for the correct description of tunneling transmission through quantum dots at large magnetic fields. Signatures of excited (N−1)-electron states in the transport process through the N-electron system are clearly identified in the measured transconductances. Overall, the computed current spectra are found to be in very good agreement with the experimental data.
