Three types of halide-perovskite-based fast-acting fluorescent materials have been demonstrated for high-speed visible light communication. All-inorganic metal-halide perovskite CsPbI3 was utilized to generate red color at 685 nm, and two-dimensional (2D) hybrid organic-inorganic halide perovskite nanosheets, (PEA)2PbI4 and (PEA)2PbBr4 (PEA= C8H9NH3), with peak photoluminescence (PL) wavelengths of 525 nm and 408 nm, were respectively used for green- and blue-light emission. The materials were then embedded in the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) to improve their durability and flexibility in practical applications. Pumped by a 405-nm violet laser, the red and green phosphors exhibit –3-dB modulation bandwidths of 14 MHz and 193 MHz, respectively. For the blue phosphor, a 124-MHz –3-dB bandwidth was obtained by using a 375-nm UVA laser diode. Benefitting from either the short PL lifetime or high PL quantum yield, aggregate Gb/s data transmission was achieved in the communication link. Direct current biased optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (DCO-OFDM) modulation scheme was implemented with an adaptive quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signal. The transmission net data rates of RGB phosphors are 0.51 Gb/s, 0.93 Gb/s, and 0.43 Gb/s, respectively. The corresponding average bit error ratios are 3.5×10-3, 3.6×10-3, and 3.6×10-3, which are below the 7%-overhead forward error correction (FEC) criterion. Taking advantage of the tunability of the halide perovskite materials covering the whole visible range could further fulfill high-speed color-pure wavelength-division multiplexing by using a single source with multiple luminescent materials emitting light at different wavelengths. Besides, combining luminescent materials with specific colors, simultaneous white-light illumination, and high-speed communication can also be realized. © 2023 SPIE.

We introduce the DODAG-X protocol for multipartite entanglement distribution in quantum networks. Leveraging the power of Destination Oriented Directed Acyclic Graphs (DODAGs), our protocol optimizes resource consumption and enhances robustness to noise in dynamic and lossy networks. Implementing a variation on the X-protocol within the DODAG, we minimize graph verification and path-finding calculations, significantly reducing computational overhead when compared to other entanglement routing schemes. Additionally, our benchmarks on grid lattice and small-world topologies reveal substantial measurement reduction compared to existing protocols. We demonstrate the success of DODAG-X for generating maximal three-party entanglement in arbitrary networks, and describe the potential for scaling to generic n-party entanglement. The DODAG-X protocol provides a scalable and efficient solution for entanglement routing, advancing current techniques for reliable quantum communication and network applications. © 2025 SPIE.

Super-LoRa: Enhancing LoRa Throughput via Payload Superposition

This paper presents Super-LoRa, a novel approach to enhancing the throughput of LoRa networks by leveraging the inherent robustness of LoRa modulation against interference. By superimposing multiple payload symbols, Super-LoRa significantly increases the data rate while maintaining lower transmitter and receiver complexity. Our solution is evaluated through both simulations and real-world experiments, showing a potential throughput improvement of up to 5× compared to standard LoRa. This advancement positions Super-LoRa as a viable solution for data-intensive IoT applications such as smart cities and precision agriculture, which demand higher data transmission rates. © 2014 IEEE.

In recent years, the prevalence of Age-Related Illnesses (ARL) has been increasing among older individuals, and early recognition and treatment will result in better living conditions. It is well known that Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is among the ARD, and severe cases may result in dementia as well. It is the purpose of this study to propose a technique for distinguishing normal/AD brain MRI slices with improved accuracy utilizing the T2-modality. This scheme consists following phases: (i) Brain MRI collection and preprocessing, (ii) Deep feature extraction with the chosen scheme, (iii) Handcrafted feature extraction, (iv) Whale Algorithm (WA) based feature reduction and serial integration, and (v) binary classification using five-fold cross-validation. A total of 2000 MRI slices (1000 normal and 1000 AD class) are examined during this task using images collected from Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) play a vital role in the immune defence systems of various organisms and have garnered significant attention for their potential applications in biotechnology and medicine. There are several approaches to identifying AMPs including clinical isolation and characterization, functional genomics, microbiology techniques, and others. However, these methods are mostly expensive, time-consuming, and require well-equipped labs. To overcome these challenges, machine learning models are a potential solution due to their robustness and high predictive capability with less time and cost. In this study, we explored the efficacy of stacking-based ensemble machine-learning techniques to identify AMPs with higher accuracy and precision. Five distinct feature extraction methods, namely amino acid composition, dipeptide composition, moran autocorrelation, geary autocorrelation, and pseudoamino acid composition, were employed to represent the sequence characteristics of peptides. To build robust predictive models, different traditional machine learning algorithms were applied. Additionally, we developed a novel stacking classifier, aptly named StackAMP, to harness the collective power of these algorithms. Our results demonstrated the exceptional performance of the proposed StackAMP ensemble method in AMP identification, achieving an accuracy of 99.97%, 99.93% specificity, and 100% sensitivity. This high accuracy underscores the effectiveness of our approach, which has promising outcomes for the rapid and accurate identification of AMPs in various biological contexts. This study not only contributes to the growing body of knowledge in the field of AMP recognition but also offers a practical tool with potential applications in drug discovery, biotechnology, and disease prevention. © 2024 IEEE.

In challenging operational environments such as underground buildings beneath roadways, reliability and performance of wireless power transfer (WPT) systems for electric vehicles (EVs) heavily hinge on the operating temperature of the magnetic couplers. Addressing this, this study introduces a novel approach employing heat sink and thermoelectric cooler technologies to mitigate temperature rise in magnetic couplers, which is particularly crucial for high-power applications. Utilizing ANSYS simulation, the study evaluates a WPT high-power application coil model with a total output power of 2 KW and an 18 cm air gap, with a 3.5 cm adjacent alignment to enhance thermal performance on both transmitter and receiver sides. Results demonstrate significant thermal enhancement, reducing the temperature of coils from 63◦ C to 54◦ C solely with the heat sink and further down to 48◦ C with the combined implementation of both heat sink and thermoelectric cooler. These measures effectively dissipate heat from the coils into the surrounding air, ensuring system efficiency and stability while facilitating functionality of system components. © 2024, Electromagnetics Academy. Telemedicine is a form of healthcare delivery that employs communication technology to provide medical care to patients remotely. The use of telemedicine has seen a significant increase in recent years, presenting challenges such as patient privacy, data security, the need for reliable communication technology, and the potential for misdiagnosis without a physical examination. Digital Watermarking can assist in addressing such issues by incorporating a unique identifier into an image that can be used to authenticate its validity. To tackle these issues, this study proposes a robust digital watermarking approach tailored to brain medical images, combining hashing, the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), and the Integer Wavelet Transform-Discrete Cosine Transform (IWT-DCT). This method utilizes the Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA-256) to first segment the brain's Region of Interest (RoI). Subsequently, the hashed RoI, along with an ECDSA signature, is embedded into the high-frequency sub-bands of the medical image using IWT-DCT. The embedding process strategically alters the coefficients of the high-frequency sub-bands to accommodate the signature while minimizing perceptual distortion. The technique leverages the robustness of transformed-domain image watermarking techniques against various attacks and combines it with SHA-256 for integrity and ECDSA for authentication purposes. The results demonstrate that the suggested approach is robust to a variety of image processing techniques, including noise addition, filtering, and compression while maintaining high levels of imperceptibility. Key metrics such as the Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Mean Squared Error (MSE), and Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) were used to evaluate performance. The suggested strategy exhibited a substantial improvement over existing methods. Ferroelectric Semimetals with α−Bi/SnSe van der Waals Heterostructures and Their Topological Currents

We show that proximity effects can be utilized to engineer van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) displaying semimetallic spin-ferroelectricity locking, where ferroelectricity and semimetallic spin states are confined to different layers, but are correlated by means of proximity effects. Our findings are supported by first principles calculations involving α−Bi/SnSe bilayers. We show that such systems support ferroelectrically switchable nonlinear anomalous Hall effect originating from large Berry curvature dipoles as well as direct and inverse spin Hall effects with giant bulk spin-charge interconversion efficiencies. The giant efficiencies are consequences of the proximity-induced semimetallic nature of low energy electron states, which are shown to behave as two-dimensional pseudo-Weyl fermions by means of symmetry analysis and first principles calculations as well as direct angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements.
