aXonica: A support package for MRI based Neuroimaging

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) assists in studying the nervous system. MRI scans undergo significant processing before presenting the final images to medical practitioners. These processes are executed with ease due to excellent software pipelines. However, establishing software workstations is non-trivial and requires researchers in life sciences to be comfortable in downloading, installing, and scripting software that is non-user-friendly and may lack basic GUI. As researchers struggle with these skills, there is a dire need to develop software packages that can automatically install software pipelines speeding up building software workstations and laboratories. Previous solutions include NeuroDebian, BIDS Apps, Flywheel, QMENTA, Boutiques, Brainlife and Neurodesk. Overall, all these solutions complement each other. NeuroDebian covers neuroscience and has a wider scope, providing only 51 tools for MRI. Whereas, BIDS Apps is committed to the BIDS format, covering only 45 software related to MRI. Boutiques is more flexible, facilitating its pipelines to be easily installed as separate containers, validated, published, and executed. Whereas, both Flywheel and Qmenta are propriety, leaving four for users looking for ‘free for use’ tools, i.e., NeuroDebian, Brainlife, Neurodesk, and BIDS Apps. This paper presents an extensive survey of 317 tools published in MRI-based neuroimaging in the last ten years, along with ‘aXonica,’ an MRI-based neuroimaging support package that is unbiased towards any formatting standards and provides 130 applications, more than that of NeuroDebian (51), BIDS App (45), Flywheel (70), and Neurodesk (85). Using a technology stack that employs GUI as the front-end and shell scripted back-end, aXonica provides (i) 130 tools that span the entire MRI-based neuroimaging analysis, and allow the user to (ii) select the software of their choice, (iii) automatically resolve individual dependencies and (iv) installs them. The aim of the next-generation 5G wireless network is to provide high data rates, low latency, increased network capacity, and improved quality of surface (QoS) for wireless communication and internet of things (IoT). The millimetric wave communication is a promising technique with the capability of providing multi-gigabit transmission rate, network exibility, and cost-effectiveness for 5G backhauling. Smart antennas are a critical requirement for the success of millimetric wave communication system, and these antennas have the capability to form a high gain beam in desired direction and a null towards interfering signal. Directional beam-forming mitigates the high path loss associated with millimetric communication & improve signal to interference noise ratio. In this paper, we investigate the problem of securing a system against actuator attacks. Specifically, we employ an unpredictability-based defense algorithm according to the principles of Moving Target Defense, while explicitly considering the worst-case attack that can be launched into the system. Consequently, we allow the system to alternate between different actuating modes, but also between optimal and robust control schemes. Via game-theoretic methods, we derive mixed strategies dictating the probabilities of utilizing different controllers for a given mode of operation, whereas an entropy-augmented optimization problem gives the probabilities of using these different modes. Finally, the overall stability of the system is analyzed, and simulation results showcase the efficacy of our proposed method. © 2024 IEEE.

Circuits can provide a versatile platform for exploring new physics, particularly in probing the topological phases within complex geometries. Fractals, celebrated for their intricate, self-similar duality, and noninteger dimensions, particularly those embedded in complex manifolds, remain uncharted in this context. In our research, we implement Sierpiński fractal topological insulators within reconfigurable fractal topological circuits while expanding the scope to include the cylindrical and toroidal structures. Our approach is grounded in consistency theory and reinforced through experimental verification, confirming the presence of unconventional higher-order topological phenomena referring to the abundance of topological edge and corner modes. Intriguingly, the quantity of these edge and corner modes is proportional to the volume modes relative to the system size, with an exponent aligning with the Hausdorff fractal dimension of the Sierpiński carpet. This study paves the way for a deeper exploration of topological modes within fractal geometries, potentially unlocking new avenues in topological physics.

Rural communities in Australia have limited access to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists, resulting in a lack of expertise to provide a diagnosis of complex and chronic ear diseases. This literature review examines previous attempts at creating a computer-aided tool to accurately diagnose ear disease and gaps in the literature. A systematic search was conducted to identify relevant papers and the latest best trends in technology. Four papers showed significant results in ear disease detection with deep learning models providing the best performance. Some studies using larger datasets consisting of endoscopic images obtained accuracies of over 90%. No adequate model was found that used otoscopic images with a sensitivity of over 90%. Endoscopic images provide better quality images, making it unclear how the models would perform on otoscopic images. Advanced techniques such as Transformers have not yet been tested in ear disease detection and could help improve model accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

The Bloch band theory and Brillouin zone(BZ)that characterize wave-like behaviors in periodic mediums are two cornerstones of contemporary physics,ranging from condensed matter to topological *** theoretical breakthrough revealed that,under the projective symmetry algebra enforced by artificial gauge fields,the usual two-dimensional(2D)BZ(orientable Brillouin two-torus)can be fundamentally modified to a non-orientable Brillouin Klein bottle with radically distinct manifold ***,the physical consequence of artificial gauge fields on the more general three-dimensional(3D)BZ(orientable Brillouin three-torus)was so far ***,we theoretically discovered and experimentally observed that the fundamental domain and topology of the usual 3D BZ can be reduced to a non-orientable Brillouin Klein space or an orientable Brillouin half-turn space in a 3D acoustic crystal with artificial gauge *** experimentally identify peculiar 3D momentum-space non-symmorphic screw rotation and glide reflection symmetries in the measured band ***,we experimentally demonstrate a novel stacked weak Klein bottle insulator featuring a nonzero Z2 topological invariant and self-collimated topological surface states at two opposite surfaces related by a nonlocal twist,radically distinct from all previous 3D topological *** discovery not only fundamentally modifies the fundamental domain and topology of 3D BZ,but also opens the door towards a wealth of previously overlooked momentum-space multidimensional manifold topologies and novel gaugesymmetry-enriched topological physics and robust acoustic wave manipulations beyond the existing paradigms.

Nanofibrous acoustic energy harvesters(NAEHs)have emerged as promising wearable platforms for efficient noise-to-electricity conversion in distributed power energy systems and wearable sound amplifiers for assistive listening ***,their reallife efficacy is hampered by low power output,particularly in the low-frequency range(<1 kHz).This study introduces a novel approach to enhance the performance of NAEHs by applying machine learning(ML)techniques to guide the synthesis of electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)/polyurethane(PU)nanofibers,optimizing their application in wearable *** use a feed-forward neural network along with solving an optimization problem to find the optimal input values of the electrospinning(applied voltage,nozzle-collector distance,electrospinning time,and drum rotation speed)to generate maximum output performance(acoustic-to-electricity conversion efficiency).We first prepared a dataset to train the network to predict the output power given the input variables with high *** introducing the neural network,we fix the network and then solve an optimization problem using a genetic algorithm to search for the input values that lead to the maximum energy harvesting *** ML-guided wearable PVDF/PU NAEH platform can deliver a maximal acoustoelectric power density output of 829μW/cm^(3) within the surrounding noise *** addition,our system can function stably in a broad frequency(0.1-2 kHz)with a high energy conversion efficiency of 66%.Sound recognition analysis reveals a robust correlation exceeding 0.85 among lexically akin terms with varying sound intensities,contrasting with a diminished correlation below 0.27 for words with disparate semantic ***,this work provides a previously unexplored route to utilize ML in advancing wearable NAEHs with excellent practicability.

Progressive Motion Boosting for Video Frame Interpolation

Video frame interpolation has made great progress in estimating advanced optical flow and synthesizing in-between frames sequentially. However, frame interpolation involving various resolutions and motions remains challenging due to limited or fixed pre-trained networks. Inspired by the success of the coarse-to-fine scheme for video frame interpolation, i.e., gradually interpolating frames of different resolutions, we propose a progressive boosting network (ProBoost-Net) based on a multi-scale framework to achieve flexible recurrent scales and then gradually optimize optical flow estimation and frame interpolation. Specifically, we designed a dense motion boosting (DMB) module to transfer features close to real motion to the decoded features from the later scales, which provides complementary information to refine the motion further. Furthermore, to ensure the accuracy of the estimated motion features at each scale, we propose a motion adaptive fusion (MAF) module that adaptively deals with motions with different receptive fields according to the motion conditions. Thanks to the framework’s flexible recurrent scales, we can customize the number of scales and make trade-offs between computation and quality depending on the application scenario. Extensive experiments with various datasets demonstrated the superiority of our proposed method over state-of-the-art approaches in various scenarios. © 2023 Institute of electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc..
