A fundamental problem in decentralized networked systems (such as for sensing or control) is to coordinate actions of different agents so that they reach a state of agreement. In such applications, it is additionally desirable that the actions at various nodes may not be anticipated by malicious eavesdroppers. Motivated by this, we investigate the problem of secure multi-terminal strong coordination aided by a multiple-access wiretap channel (MAC-WT). In this setup, independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) copies of correlated sources are observed by two transmitters who encode the channel inputs to the MAC-WT. The legitimate receiver observing the channel output and side information correlated with the sources must produce approximately i.i.d. copies of an output variable jointly distributed with the sources. Furthermore, we demand that an external eavesdropper learns essentially nothing about the sources and the simulated output sequence by observing its own MAC-WT output. This setting is aided by the presence of independent pairwise shared randomness between each encoder and the legitimate decoder, that is unavailable to the eavesdropper. We derive an achievable rate region based on a combination of coordination coding and wiretap coding, along with an outer bound. The inner bound is shown to be tight and a complete characterization is derived for the special case when the sources are conditionally independent given the decoder side information and the legitimate channel is composed of deterministic links. Further, we also analyze a more general scenario with possible encoder cooperation, where one of the encoders can non-causally crib from the other encoder's input, for which an achievable rate region is proposed. We then explicitly compute the rate regions for an example both with and without cribbing between the encoders, and demonstrate that cribbing strictly improves upon the achievable rate region. © 2024, CC BY.

Generating barcodes for nanopore sequencing data with PRO

DNA barcodes,short and unique DNA sequences,play a crucial role in sample identification when processing many samples simultaneously,which helps reduce experimental ***,the low quality of long-read sequencing makes it difficult to identify barcodes accurately,which poses significant challenges for the design of barcodes for large numbers of samples in a single sequencing ***,we present a comprehensive study of the generation of barcodes and develop a tool,PRO,that can be used for selecting optimal barcode sets and *** formulate the barcode design problem as a combinatorial problem and prove that finding the optimal largest barcode set in a given DNA sequence space in which all sequences have the same length is theoretically *** practical applications,we developed the novel method PRO by introducing the probability divergence between two DNA sequences to expand the capacity of barcode kits while ensuring demultiplexing ***,the maximum size of the barcode kits designed by PRO is 2,292,which keeps the length of barcodes the same as that of the official ones used by Oxford Nanopore Technologies(ONT).We validated the performance of PRO on a simulated nanopore dataset with high error *** demultiplexing accuracy of PRO reached 98.29%for a barcode kit of size 2,922,4.31%higher than that of Guppy,the official demultiplexing *** the size of the barcode kit generated by PRO is the same as the official size provided by ONT,both tools show superior and comparable demultiplexing accuracy.

This preliminary study explores developing and implementing upper-limb rehabilitation tools utilizing haptic feedback and 3D spatial recognition analysis in a virtual reality (VR) environment. The effectiveness of upper limb rehabilitation in post-stroke patients was investigated by analyzing the joint and gimbal range of motion (ROM), ROM ratios, and force distribution through various drawing tasks. This study evaluated the impact of different drawing patterns on joint and gimbal ROM, and the force applied during rehabilitation exercises. This study revealed significant variability in ROM across different tasks by combining ROM measurements with force data and employing heat maps for visual representation. These findings emphasize the need for task-specific adjustments to improve rehabilitation outcomes. This study highlights the potential of incorporating advanced technologies, such as VR-based tools with haptic feedback and 3D spatial recognition, to enhance patient engagement and rehabilitation effectiveness. © 2024 IEEE.

As the need for achieving optimal performance in prediction models, several recent and complex models have been developed. However, many of these models operate as black boxes, providing little insight into their predictive results. In recent years, three gradient-boosting methods based on Decision Trees have been recommended, i.e., XGBoost, CatBoost, and LightGBM. These methods have proven to deliver competitive performance with fast training times. Nevertheless, in critical domains like security, there is a growing need for increased transparency among stakeholders. One pressing concern in the security field is the proliferation of phishing websites. To address this issue, we propose an explainable machine learning-based approach using gradient-boosting methods with hyperparameter optimization on three phishing website datasets. Our best methods surpass the state-of-the-art phishing website detection methods, achieving accuracy rates of 97.45%, 99.16%, and 97.85% for the UCI (2015), Mendeley (2018), and Mendeley (2020) datasets, respectively. Subsequently, we implement posthoc explainability using SHAP and LIME for the selected dataset. The experimental results indicate that three features, i.e., length_url, directory_length, and time_domain_activation, are consistently identified as the most influential features in the dataset. Moreover, our proposed approach demonstrates promising results for detecting phishing websites with both high accuracy and explainability. © 2024 IEEE.

An improved dual winding magnetically coupled-inductors inverter based on a Cockcroft-Walton multiplier voltage cell is proposed in this brief. Compared with the conventional generalized Cockcroft-Walton multiplier voltage Z-source inverters, the proposed inverter attains higher voltage gain by decreasing the transformer's turns number. As a result, lower cost, higher efficiency, larger voltage boost factor, and higher density can be realized in the proposed inverter. Furthermore, unlike conventional magnetically coupled impedance source inverters, the proposed topology offers a larger voltage boost factor for small shoot-through duty ratios with a smoother slope, which enhances the practical controllability of the inverter. Hence, a higher modulation ratio can be applied, which results in a better quality of the inverter's waveforms. A clamping circuit is used to reduce the leakage inductance effects of the coupled inductors. As a result, the huge voltage spikes across the inverter bridge are eliminated. In addition, the proposed inverter draws a smooth and continuous input current from the input dc source, which is suitable for renewable energy sources. Portfolio strategy search is an essential topic in the financial and economic networks. Various risk preferences of investors should be considered to accommodate their investment choices, thereby introducing multi-objective portfolio optimization. This study utilizes an innovative and accurate evaluation model, the trend ratio (TR), to assess return and risk and construct a multi-objective optimization (MOO) model. Within a huge search space, computational intelligence techniques achieve high-performance computing through effective nature-inspired computing. The proposed TR-based MOO quantum-inspired model with an entanglement-enhanced local search (EL) mech-anism can search for Pareto optimal solutions (POSs) in global investment markets. The experimental results demonstrate that the TR-based EL mechanism effectively achieves a larger number of POSs and improves efficient frontiers to meet the different risk profiles of investors across global markets. A visualized Pareto front (PF) of the TR model helps a user identify a more straightforward return and risk balance evaluation, helping investors make informed decisions. The entanglement-simulated local search mechanism has been proven to improve the search for a better PF significantly. The TR-based, quantum-inspired MOO portfolio strategy search has paved the way for flexible solutions in global financial networks. © 2024 IEEE.

We consider correlated equilibria in strategic games in an adversarial environment, where an adversary can compromise the public signal used by the players for choosing their strategies, while players aim at detecting a potential attack as soon as possible to avoid loss of utility. We model the interaction between the adversary and the players as a zero-sum game and we derive the maxmin strategies for both the defender and the attacker using the framework of quickest change detection. We define a class of adversarial strategies that achieve the optimal trade-off between attack impact and attack detectability and show that a generalized CUSUM scheme is asymptotically optimal for the detection of the attacks. Our numerical results on the Sioux-Falls benchmark traffic routing game show that the proposed detection scheme can effectively limit the utility loss by a potential adversary. To date, no flexible silicon solar cell capable of directly converting visible light into electrical current has been developed for use in retinal prosthetic devices. In this study, we successfully fabricated silicon solar cells into small, pixelated structures and demonstrated their potential for retinal prostheses. To minimize surgical incisions during implantation and enhance device stability on the retina, we incorporated a flexible polymer substrate. Our results underscore the promise of silicon solar cells in biomedical engineering, especially for retinal prosthesis applications © 2025 IEEE.

Investigations of kinematic and dynamic models of tractor-trailer systems have historically been performed for stability analysis or state estimation. In this work, we present and evaluate kinematic and dynamic tractor-trailer models for model predictive control (MPC). We show in open-loop simulations that a kinematic and a dynamic model are equivalent at low speeds and short discretization time steps. A zero speed singularity and stiff dynamics prevents the usage of the dynamic model in control design, where discretization time steps are longer. A method of discretization is proposed to resolve the low speed feasibility of the dynamic model. In closed-loop simulations, the real-time applicability of the kinematic and dynamic models in a nonlinear MPC is verified. © 2024 IEEE.
