In this paper, the problem of stabilization and production rate reference tracking for a Direct-Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) system is addressed. Sufficient conditions for the asymptotic and exponential stabilization for DCMD system are presented using the Gronwall-Bellman lemma and Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) approaches, respectively. A nonlinear observer is then proposed to estimate the temperature distribution among the DCMD domain. This contributes to propose a reference production rate control design for the DCMD process via observer-based output control approach. Finally, numerical simulations are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper deals with the pseudo noise (PN) generating method for digital audio watermarking using time-spread echo hiding. In time-spread echo based audio watermarking, the secret payload is embedded in the form of multiple echoes spread by a pseudo noise sequence and the pseudo noise sequence is used as secret key. Generally, the pseudo noise sequence is required to be uncorrelated with other sequence and therefore typically generated by an M-sequence generator. In this paper, we propose a key sequence generating method which generates a key sequence from an audio signal. By using the new key sequence generated from an audio signal instead of an M-sequence, the key information users have to remember is their secret audio signal but not a complicated random PN key. Therefore, the availability of digital audio watermarking would be improved. After introducing the new key generation method, we evaluated the proposed key sequence. The result shows it can detect a secret payload similar to use of a conventional M-sequence and does not deteriorate inaudibility of the embedded watermark.

Renewable energy system such as a photovoltaic, a wind turbine generation and fuel cell has attracted attention as alternative energy sources of fossil fuel. However, a distributed generating system with the photovoltaic or the wind turbine generation is difficult to obtain a constant power supply. Thus control of power leveling system is required to maintain the balance of power flow for irregular power generation. The system is required to respond to change of voltage balance and bidirectional power flow of charge or discharge. Therefore the bidirectional buck/boost DC/DC converter with an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) is applied for the control of PL system in this research. And the deadbeat control is applied to the system for obtaining quick and accurate response. This paper discusses the effectiveness of deadbeat control for power leveling unit by experiment.

We present a framework for obtaining reliable solid-state charge and optical excitations and spectra from optimally tuned range-separated hybrid density functional theory. The approach, which is fully couched within the formal framework of generalized Kohn-Sham theory, allows for the accurate prediction of exciton binding energies. We demonstrate our approach through first principles calculations of one- and two-particle excitations in pentacene, a molecular semiconducting crystal, where our work is in excellent agreement with experiments and prior computations. We further show that with one adjustable parameter, set to produce the known band gap, this method accurately predicts band structures and optical spectra of silicon and lithium fluoride, prototypical covalent and ionic solids. Our findings indicate that for a broad range of extended bulk systems, this method may provide a computationally inexpensive alternative to many-body perturbation theory, opening the door to studies of materials of increasing size and complexity.

In this work, the performance analysis of digital communications over a composite Weibull-Gamma (WG) multipath-fading and shadowing channel is presented wherein WG distribution is appropriate for modeling fading environments when multipath is superimposed on shadowing. More specifically, in this work, exact closed-form expressions are derived for the probability density function, the cumulative distribution function, the moment generating function, and the moments of a composite WG channel. Capitalizing on these results, new exact closed-form expressions are offered for the outage probability, the higher-order amount of fading, the average error rate for binary and Mary modulation schemes, and the ergodic capacity under various types of transmission policies, mostly in terms of Meijer's G functions. These new analytical results were also verified via computer-based Monte-Carlo simulation results.

The power conditioning system (PCS) is widely used as a grid connected inverter to keep output constant. A novel power conditioning system (PCS) using a circuit of modular multi-level converter (MMC) construction is investigated. The feature of the system is that output voltage becomes multilevel for low distortion and circuit has an energy storage system such as a battery or an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC). Thus it is convenient for the PV system of which input changes irregularly to apply the circuit with MMC structure. In this paper, the proposed novel PCS is introduced and the control method for the system is proposed. Effectiveness of the proposed PCS is considered by simulation.

Sufficient conditions for the asymptotical convergence of the fractional-order state estimation error, the conventional integer-order and the fractional-order faults estimation error are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) formulation by introducing a continuous frequency distributed equivalent model and using an indirect Lyapunov approach where the fractional-order α belongs to 0 < α < 1. Sharing the spectrum with in-band full-duplex (FD) primary users (PU) is a challenging and interesting problem in the underlay cognitive radio (CR) systems. The self-interference introduced at the primary network may dramatically impede the secondary user (SU) opportunity to access the spectrum. In this work, we attempt to tackle this problem through the use of the so-called improper Gaussian signaling. Such a signaling technique has demonstrated its superiority in improving the overall performance in interference limited networks. Particularly, we assume a system with a SU pair working in half-duplex mode that uses improper Gaussian signaling while the FD PU pair implements the regular proper Gaussian signaling techniques. First, we derive a closed form expression for the SU outage probability and an upper bound for the PU outage probability. Then, we optimize the SU signal parameters to minimize its outage probability while maintaining the required PU quality-of-service based on the average channel state information. Finally, we provide some numerical results that validate the tightness of the PU outage probability bound and demonstrate the advantage of employing the improper Gaussian signaling to the SU in order to access the spectrum of the FD PU.

We study the ergodic secrecy capacity of a block-fading wiretap channel when there are multiple antennas at the transmitter, the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper. We consider that the receivers are aware of their respective channel matrices while the transmitter is only provided by a B-bits feedback of the main channel state information. The feedback bits are sent by the legitimate receiver, at the beginning of each fading block, over an error free public link with limited capacity. Assuming an average transmit power constraint, we provide an upper and a lower bounds on the ergodic secrecy capacity. Then, we present a framework to design the optimal codebooks for feedback and transmission. In addition, we show that the proposed lower and upper bounds coincide asymptotically as the capacity of the feedback link becomes large, i.e. B → ∞;hence, fully characterizing the secrecy capacity in this case.

We study delay-limited (also called zero-outage) capacity region of the fading multi-access channel (MAC) with Gaussian noise and perfect channel state information (CSI) at the receiver and at the transmitters (CSI-TR), in the low-power regime. We show that for fading channels where the MAC capacity region is strictly positive, it has a multidimensional rectangle structure and thus is simply characterized by single user capacity points. More specifically, we show that at low power, the boundary surface of the capacity region shrinks to a single point corresponding to the sum-rate maximizer and that the coordinates of this point coincide with single user capacity bounds. Using the duality of the Gaussian MAC and broadcast channels (BC), we show that time-sharing (or time division multiple access (TDMA)) is asymptotically optimal.
