Bright high-purity quantum emitters in aluminium nitride integrated photonics

Solid-state quantum emitters (QEs) are fundamental in photonic-based quantum information processing. There is strong interest to develop high-quality QEs in III-nitride semiconductors because of their sophisticated manufacturing driven by large and growing applications in optoelectronics, high voltage power transistors, and microwave amplifiers. Here, we report the generation and direct integration of QEs in an aluminium nitride-based photonic integrated circuit platform. For individual waveguide-integrated QEs, we measure an off-chip count rate exceeding 6 × 104 counts per second (cps) (saturation rate > 8.6 × 104 cps). In an unpatterned thin-film sample, we measure antibunching with g(2)(0) ~ 0.05 and photon count rates exceeding 8 × 105 cps (saturation rate > 1 × 106 cps). Although spin and detailed optical linewidth measurements are left for future work, these results already show the potential for high-quality QEs monolithically integrated in a wide range of III-nitride device technologies that would enable new quantum device opportunities and industrial scalability. Localization and exploration of robotic systems has been a highly active research area in recent years. In order to explore unknown environments with better precision, a robotic system employing surveillance and flying cameras is proposed in this paper. Specifically, a mobile robot equipped with an onboard monocular camera performs visual simultaneous localization and mapping with extended Kalman filtering (EKF-VSLAM) and moves from indoor to outdoor environments. To correct the estimation errors of the system during the task, a least squares-based correction approach is proposed. The proposed robotic system employs surveillance cameras in indoor environment and a flying camera in outdoor environment to correct estimation error from the onboard monocular camera. The proposed correction approach, integrated with the conventional EKF-VSLAM, has been validated by experiments demonstrating better precision. © 2018 The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers - SICE.

The development of natural language processing algorithms and the explosive growth of conversational data are encouraging researches on the human-computer conversation. Still, getting qualified conversational data on a large scale is difficult and expensive. In this paper, we verify the feasibility of constructing a data-driven chatbot with processed online community posts by using them as pseudo-conversational data. We argue that chatbots for various purposes can be built extensively through the pipeline exploiting the common structure of community posts. Our experiment demonstrates that chatbots created along the pipeline can yield the proper responses. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

3D point clouds consisting of a lot of informatively geometric data have been playing critical roles in many applications such as 3D segmentation, polyline annotation for lane tracking, and especially in manufacturing industry. In particular, this paper proposes to apply Reinforcement Learning (RL) to resolve an automated assembly task based on 3D point cloud data. To address this task, the proposed structure is separated into 2 stages including registration stage and assembly path planning stage. Firstly, in the registration stage, one of the objects is matched to an assembled model to determine the transformation between two 3D point clouds by using RANdom Sample Consensus (RANSAC) and Iterative Closet Point (ICP). Secondly, we employ Q-learning method to train a model to make optimal decisions in assemble path planning task. The entire optimized assembly path planning task has been successfully accomplished for typical objects. Finally, the performance of the approach developed in this paper has been validated by experiments. © 2018 IEEE.

Integrated constructive and virtual simulations are becoming popular for tactical training in the military domain. An important aspect concerning the integration of these simulation models in the construction of virtual tactical simulations is the modelling and implementation of different kinds of semi-autonomous agents. A fundamental feature of these agents is the capability of intelligently and realistically modelling task-oriented navigation activities in large virtual terrain simulation environments, while following underlying military doctrine and tactics. This paper reviews important navigation issues that emerge in such simulation systems and prominent Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques that have been explored to solve them. From this analysis, a hybrid, semi-autonomous navigation framework is proposed aiming to fulfil the needs of virtual tactical training simulations, more specifically, in the military domain. As implemented in a system for the virtual tactical simulation of artillery battery tasks, the framework shows how to overcome the challenges of implementing realistic global and local navigation behaviours for military units and, at the same time, it shows that the semi-autonomous behaviours implemented are of primary importance to allow interaction with users for learning purposes in the simulation exercises. IT Governance are one of the needs in managing Enterprise Level IT. This study shows part of the decision domain of IT Governance Help, which are IT Investment and Prioritization. The purpose of this study is to determine feasibility of implementation open source ERP system Odoo project management module that replaces current system based on operational, economic, and technical aspects. The method used are Fit / Gap Analysis and Cost Benefit model using economic impact worksheet. The analysis is done by comparing the requirement with features owned by current system and Odoo ERP system. This research resulted that Odoo ERP System is feasible in the 3 aspects, the operational feasibility Odoo reaching 72% Fit, the economic feasibility with ROI of 84%, and technical feasibility indicating the technical requirement can be fulfilled by leasing AWS server. The conclusion is the open source ERP system Odoo project management module is feasible to be applied in terms of 3 aspects that have been studied, those are operational, economic, and technical.

Increasing penetration of wind and renewable generation poses significant challenges to the power system operations and reliability. This paper considers the real-time optimal transmission switching (OTS) problem for determining the generation dispatch and network topology that can account for uncertain energy resources. To efficiently solve the resultant two-stage stochastic program, we propose a tractable linear decision rule (LDR) based approximation solution that can eliminate the uncertain variables and lead to fixed number of constraints. The proposed LDR approach can guarantee feasibility, and significantly reduces the computational complexity of existing approaches that grows with the number of randomly generated samples of uncertainty. Numerical studies on IEEE test cases demonstrate the high approximation accuracy of the proposed LDR solution and its computational efficiency for real-time OTS implementations. Two-level atoms coupled with single-mode cavity photons are predicted to exhibit a quantum phase transition when the coupling strength exceeds a critical value, entering a phase in which atomic polarization and photonic field are finite even at zero temperature and without external driving. However, this phenomenon, the superradiant phase transition (SRPT), is forbidden by a no-go theorem due to the existence of the diamagnetic term in the Hamiltonian. Here, we present spectroscopic evidence for a magnonic SRPT in ErFeO3, where the role of the photonic mode (two-level atoms) in the photonic SRPT is played by an Fe3+ magnon mode (Er3+ spins). The absence of the diamagnetic term in the Fe3+–Er3+ exchange coupling ensures that the no-go theorem does not apply. Terahertz and gigahertz magnetospectroscopy experiments revealed the signatures of the SRPT – a kink and a softening, respectively, of two spin–magnon hybridized modes at the critical point. The interaction of an ensemble of two-level atoms and a quantized electromagnetic field, described by the Dicke Hamiltonian, is an extensively studied problem in quantum optics. However, experimental efforts to explore similar physics in condensed matter typically employ bosonic matter modes (e.g., phonons, magnons, and plasmons) that are describable as simple harmonic oscillators, i.e., an infinite ladder of equally spaced energy levels. Here, we examine ultrastrong coupling between a coherent light mode and an ensemble of paramagnetic spins, a finite-multilevel system, in Gd3Ga5O12. The electron paramagnetic resonance of Gd3+ ions is tuned by a magnetic field into resonance with a Fabry–Pérot cavity mode, resulting in the formation of spin–photon hybrid states, or Zeeman polaritons. We observe that the light–matter coupling strength, measured through the vacuum Rabi splitting, decreases with increasing temperature, which can be explained by the temperature-dependent population difference between the lower and higher-energy states, a trait of a finite-level system. This finding demonstrates that a spin–boson system is more compatible with the Dicke model and has advantages over boson–boson systems for pursuing experimental realizations of phenomena predicted for ultrastrongly coupled light–matter hybrids.
