A reflectarray designed by Random Hill Climbing (RHC) optimization process is demonstrated and simulated. On the basis of top layer effect on reflection phase and exploiting the relation between phase distribution and the direction of the reflected beam, six pixelated subcells are optimized for two incident angle waves simultaneously. The far field plot shows that for beams of incident angles 19.471° and 41.81° and in the precincts of them the reflectarray deflects the incident waves into reflections close to normal to the reflectarray surface. This shows a proximate independency of incident wave angle for the reflectarray in a certain angular range. The proposed cells provide 342° reflection phase range. Also, the reflection loss of the cell for the incident angles 19.471° and 41.81° are -1.9 dB and -1.4 dB, respectively. The pattern gain and fractional bandwidth for a finite reflectarray of size 300 λ x 150 λ are reported to be 19.44 dB and 25% for the incident angle 19.471°, and 19.17 dB and 30% for the incident angle 41.81°. © 2024 IEEE.

The inspection of railway systems with traditional wayside detectors allows mainly the detection of wheels and axle bearings defects and can be time-demanding, unsafe, and heavily dependent on humans. To overcome these issues and then optimize and automate the rail and track diagnosis process, drones can be an excellent solution thanks to their onboard state-of-the-art cameras and sensors. Thus, with the aim of rapidly collecting highly accurate data, an innovative hybrid movable railway diagnostic architecture, consisting of a diagnostic train and a fleet of drones, is defined in this work. From the control point of view, the main interest is in optimally managing the crucial phase of drones returning to and landing on the moving train when the railway inspection mission is completed. To control the fleet of drones, a combination of consensus algorithm in the leader-following mode and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is implemented for the flight formation phase and the landing phase on the moving base platform (i.e., the diagnostic train), respectively. The landing phase is performed both as vertical or oblique descent through a go to goal and as oblique descent along a predefined path. The obtained results of the railway diagnostic architecture simulations are presented and discussed in detail. In particular, they show that the vertical and oblique descent performed as go to goal are certainly faster than the oblique descent along a predefined path. © 2023 IEEE.

Network anomaly detection is a critical task in cybersecurity which aims to identify unusual patterns and potential threats in network traffic. Existing solutions often rely on machine learning (ML) algorithms, including support vector machines (SVMs). However, traditional SVMs with fixed kernels may struggle to capture complex, non-linear relationships in network data, leading to suboptimal detection performance. Additionally, selecting the right hyperparameters is often a non-Trivial task. In this paper, we investigate the application of SVMs with varying kernels (linear, sigmoid, polynomial, and radial basis function (RBF)) for network anomaly detection. We extend our exploration to RBF kernel optimization using genetic algorithm (GA) to fine-Tune critical hyperparameters (C and Gamma). Concurrently, we integrate recursive feature elimination (RFE) for optimal feature selection, enhancing the model's discriminatory prowess. To evaluate our proposed method, our study encompasses a standard dataset of over 40,000 training instances and 40+ features, subjected to meticulous preprocessing. Rigorous evaluation using 10-fold cross-validation was performed culminating in a final validation on a distinct test dataset. Our empirical results show the supremacy of the GA-RBF-SVM model, driven by GA-optimized hyperparameters, in conjunction with RFE compared to the other SVM variants. This configuration achieves exceptional performance with 99.39% accuracy on validation data and 99.46% on the test dataset. Additionally, our study extends to advanced (ensemble) ML techniques all demonstrating exceptional performance benchmarks. This study demonstrates that with systematic parameter optimization and appropriate feature selection, RBF-kernel based SVMs can perform competitively in network anomaly detection compared to advanced machine learning schemes. © 2023 IEEE.

This scientific research is devoted to the analysis and testing of the Haar cascade classifier method for face recognition. The paper also justifies the choice of algorithm and provides a description of the implementation of the system on which the analysis was conducted. During the research, the developed system was tested on a sample of facial photographs that included images at different distances from the camera, different lighting conditions, and with different facial positions in the camera's plane of view. An analysis of the test results was conducted, and conclusions were drawn regarding the factors that should be considered when designing and using a facial recognition system to achieve high accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper introduces XMeta-OS, a meta-operating system specially designed with Linux as its foundation to unify and optimize resource management for the distributed edge-cloud when dynamic use of GPU resources is possible. This approach offer a new GPU abstraction layer and dynamic edge-cloud allocation model that offer enhanced flexibility and resource utilization over existing systems like Kubernetes and OpenStack. By using likely sensitive data, the model applied cloud-pushed deployment model. XMeta-OS manages computer resources in real-time. Therefore, fulfilling high performance various needs. It allocates CPU and GPU in real-time to workloads requiring massive parallel processing, such as machine learning, scientific simulations, real-time data analytics, and transportation tasks. Fabrication in the laboratory of an edge-cloud environment can help to assess the scalability, fault tolerance and efficiency of the system. It showcases the overall architectural design of XMeta-OS. Changes to the kernel and security solutions for safe and effective distribution are suggested. This article presents the design of the XMeta-OS. The future of XMeta-OS entails usage and testing with which we see latency, energy, computation and other such measurements in labs. XMeta-OS is a solution to cost performance, emerging application, large-scale edge-cloud deployments, and distributed GPU-enabled infrastructures. This paper presents the conceptual design of an electrically small antenna (ESA) for transmitting arbitrary wideband signals. Using an ESA, the antenna system converts the baseband I/Q of a broadband signal to a circularly polarized waveform. Consequently, the bandwidth of the transmitted signal is orders of magnitude broader than the antenna's instantaneous bandwidth. The full-wave simulation results of the antenna system are imported into a circuit simulator to evaluate its performance. These simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method for transmitting an arbitrary waveform from an ESA is effective. © 2023 USNC-URSI.

In this work, a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based controller is presented to improve the performance of an existing control process in inverter-based resources (IBR). A DRL algorithm is utilized to learn a model-free value function which further improves the transient response of an IBR over fast response time frames. In addition, the developed controller provides black-box control, that is, it performs the desired control action without accessing or modifying the internal parameters of the existing controller in an IBR. The developed controller is tested in case studies utilizing EMT simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC and its performance, resilience, and adaptiveness are verified. © 2023 IEEE.
