This paper addresses the problem of tracking multiple targets using multi-sensor bearings-only measurements in the presence of noise and clutter. The Rao-Blackwellized Monte Carlo data association (RBMCDA) scheme and the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) are applied to solve the problems of uncertain association and nonlinear filtering, respectively. In particular, the sensors are assumed to move back and forth alternately. Simulation results show that the filtering algorithm produces reliable position estimates under single and multiple tracking scenarios.

Mass spectrometry-based metabolomics is getting mature and playing an ever important role in the systematic understanding of biological process in conjunction with other members of “-omics” family. However, the identification of metabolites in untargeted metabolomics profiling remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose a support vector machine (SVM)-based spectral matching algorithm to combine multiple similarity measures for accurate identification of metabolites. We compared the performance of this approach with several existing spectral matching algorithms on a spectral library we constructed. The results demonstrate that our proposed method is very promising in identifying metabolites in the face of data heterogeneity caused by different experimental parameters and platforms.

A huge number of routing protocols have been proposed for ad hoc networks to improve the networks' performance. Because of the large number of designs, it's difficult to track all the designs and choose the optimal protocol for an ad hoc network under various scenarios. Fortunately, a novel architecture named Orchestra has been proposed by Dr. Yaling, Virginia Tech, USA. The architecture decomposed standard routing protocols to four modules so that designer can easily combine different components to form routing protocols. In this paper, we proposed a novel method to combine Orchestra and genetic algorithm to find the most suitable protocol design for a certain network scenario as which is shown in our simulation result.

This paper proposed an easy, simple, and flexible control scheme for a three-phase grid-tie inverter system. A half-bridge single-phase grid-tie inverter was designed with a proportional-resonant control, an admittance compensator, and scalar control scheme. This single-phase control method was expanded in a three-phase grid-tie inverter system with duplicating three individual phases with 120° apart. Here are several benefits of the proposed control scheme: (1) it is easy to design by applying single-phase grid-tie inverter control method, (2) it requires less computation burden than that of the conventional three phase control scheme, (3) it provides either a constant power or a constant current to the utility grid with regardless three-phase grid voltage conditions, (4) it provides easily an active and reactive power, (5) it can be designed with a modular manner. A 3-kW power conditioning system has been built and tested in order to verify simulation results and experimental results.

A huge number of routing protocols have been proposed for ad hoc networks to improve the networks' performance. Because of the large number of designs, it's difficult to track all the designs and choose the optimal protocol for an ad hoc network under various scenarios. In addition, it is not clear if any of the original design ideas in the huge number of existing works can be combined to form new and better routing systems. To address this challenge, in this paper, a new open architecture is proposed, called Orchestra, which aims to bring a great change to the current design process of ad hoc routing protocols. The architecture can automatically assemble and test of a great variety of routing designs with high flexibility and compatibility by the help of routing algebra. Furthermore, it can also be combined with other algorithms like genetic algorithm to find the most suitable protocol design for a certain network scenario. The performance of the existing routing protocols implemented in Orchestra is as same as their original version in ns2, as which is shown in our simulation result.

A single-phase grid connected transformerless PV inverter for residential application is presented. The inverter is derived from a boost cascaded with buck converter along with a line frequency unfolding circuit. High efficiency can be achieved because the converter allows the use of power MOSFET and ultra fast reverse recovery diode, which also features a robust structure because the phase-leg does not have shoot-through issue. By interleaving multiple phases, the ripple can be reduced, and thus the inductor size can also be reduced. This paper begins with theoretical analysis and modeling of this boost-buck converter based inverter to define the operation limit and to design the closed-loop controller. A two-phase interleaved inverter is then designed accordingly. Finally, the simulation and experiment results are shown to verify the concept.

We present an authentication device allowing for the validation of wireless transmissions by means of a watermark signal applied at the physical layer, and demonstrate how the method may be applied to digital broadcast television signals. The novel watermarking approach presented conveys the authentication signal through explicit emulation of innocuous channel responses, further preventing Primary User Emulation attacks in Dynamic Spectrum Access theaters. The undesirable effects of the watermark signal design are removed by the receiver by traditional channel equalization practices, resulting in nearly zero impact to the bit error rate (BER) of the primary signal received. The proposed mechanism may be implemented without modification to existing Digital Television (DTV) transmission equipment using a retrofitting approach, and does not require the modification of existing receivers or protocols. A key benefit of the proposed method is that the authentication signal may be received at a BER much lower than the primary-signal, all within original transmission power and bandwidth constraints. We discuss physical layer details of the new watermarking method, and demonstrate how proven cryptographic authentication measures may be applied to the problem.
