The swift progression of industrial technology underscores the need for adept professionals capable of skillfully implementing and managing intricate systems. Vocational education assumes a pivotal role in cultivating competent intermediaries proficient in translating theoretical knowledge into practical applications. At the core of industrial automation lies the programmable Logic Controller (PLC), a specialized digital computer that interfaces with sensors, switches, and actuators to execute real-time control programs, thus facilitating meticulous industrial processes. This study concentrates on the practical deployment of a two-floor elevator system utilizing the OMRON CP1E N30 PLC. Elevators, integral to contemporary structures, mandate precision for secure vertical conveyance. Leveraging input signals from elevator buttons, sensors, and switches, the PLC orchestrates efficient motor control and dependable door operations. This hands-on application underscores the PLC's significance within real-time control contexts. Nonetheless, Vocational Higher Education graduates frequently grapple with the challenge of transitioning to industry settings due to limited practical exposure. This partnership harmonizes with the center's objective of enriching vocational education by integrating sophisticated technologies like PLCs, equipping the workforce with the acumen to bridge the gap between theoretical foundations and the pragmatic demands of industry. © 2023 IEEE.

Reduction of active power losses in distribution networks is an important issue, which is usually addressed through a separate, sequential, or simultaneous feeder reconfiguration (FR), volt-var regulation (e.g., capacitor placement, CP), and control of distributed energy resources (DERs). However, finding optimal solution for a coordinated FR, CP, and DER control requires significant computational efforts, which are additionally increased when variations in loading conditions are considered. Therefore, load variations are usually neglected in related analysis, although changes in power flows influence changes in network losses and, consequently, optimal controls for FR, CP and DERs. This paper presents the analysis of both benefits and disadvantages of including not only the peak demands, but also different loading conditions for a coordinated implementation of FR, CP and DER controls for the reduction of losses. The analysis is illustrated on the several distribution test networks and using representative load patterns from the existing literature. The obtained results suggest that the inclusion of load variations requires significantly longer computational times, but in some cases affects optimal solutions for FR, CP and DER controls (their numbers, locations and settings). © 2023 IEEE.

In the basic vehicle routing problem (VRP), a vehicle must deliver goods from one centralized warehouse to multiple customers efficiently. Several VRP variants and constraints exist, including different product types, specific delivery times, multiple warehouses, vehicle fuel constraints, and pick-up from one location and delivery to another. This work proposes and demonstrates a flexible algorithm for solving the VRP via ant colony optimization (ACO) that can address many of the variants discussed above. ACO algorithms mimic the behavior of ants, learning optimal paths to a food source and back to the nest based on stigmergic behavior. This work compares a proposed, more flexible ACO algorithm to a traditional optimization algorithm that is implemented in the Google VRP solver. Readily available data were used to test and demonstrate results. Several VRP variants were implemented in both the (proposed) flexible ACO algorithm and the Google VRP solver. The flexible ACO algorithm performed better in terms of distance traveled versus the Google VRP solver for two variants and worse for three other cases. However, the Google VRP solver was not able to solve some of the VRP variant combinations considered here and failed when solving some backhaul datasets. Because the flexible ACO algorithm was able to better handle many case variations, it may be an attractive alternative optimization tool.

The rising incidence of fires calls for advanced training methodologies that surpass the limitations of traditional firefighter training, both in scale and scope. Virtual Reality (VR) emerges as a potent solution, offering a wide range of realistic scenarios and cost-effective, safe training environments. This paper presents a novel VR-based training platform tailored for firefighters, which leverages Unity 3D and state-of-the-art fire simulation techniques to deliver high-fidelity experiences that closely mimic real-world dynamics. Trainees engage in an immersive VR setting where they experience full autonomy and multisensory feedback, heightening the educational impact through a procedural fire spreading mechanism that emulates actual fire behavior. Our system excels in providing a comprehensive framework, modular design for customizable scenarios, and integration of varied training modules to prepare trainees for an array of firefighting emergencies. Future work aims to enhance realism through advanced features such as Flashover and Backdraft simulation, real-time environmental controls for trainers, team-based exercises with human-agent interaction, etc. The paper concludes by emphasizing the platform’s alignment with the set design standards for VR-based firefighter training and outlines prospective user testing with professional firefighters to further refine the VR experience.

In recent years, several industries have increased their demand for processing precision, automatic detection, and visualization interfaces. Therefore, to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution, machine tool operators install a large number of sensors on machine tools to obtain more precise physical quantities during processing and use a variety of sensors to obtain measurements in various situations. However, these additional sensors on machine tools result in complicated wire layouts, which exhibit negative effects on processing. Such problems lead to the birth of wireless data transmission, which is expected to become the new standard in the future. At present, there is more and more interactive integration between relevant embedded system and the machine tool, which allows information communication between each other in the wireless domain. However, generally, the majority of machine tool operators focus on optimizing the sensing conditions during processing, but they disregard the importance of information security. In the current era of the Internet of Things (IoT), information security is regarded as a crucial factor. For the wireless communication between the IoT equipment for each machine in the machining field, the transmitted data are almost exposed within public space directly due to the loss in constraint and protection of physical wiring. Therefore, such a process can easily be intercepted by other devices that capture information on relevant status of the machine or command messages received by the controller, where intentional individual may possibly control the operating mechanism and progress of entire plant. This leads to theft of relevant secrets in manufacturing technology for the subject company, or intentional shutdown, machine damage, and vicious blackmailing attacks. Object segmentation is one of the main activities for the robot to create a sense of its environment. This task is a precursor to other activities, such as autonomous navigation in a given environment. Through sensors such as LiDAR, it's possible to generate high-resolution three-dimensional maps of the environment in which the robot is located, thus enabling their interpretation so that tasks such as object segmentation can be performed. In this article, the DBSCAN and HDBSCAN unsupervised clustering methods are explored. Results in a simulated environment in Gazebo together with Robot Operating System ROS framework for capturing sensory data from LiDAR Livox Mid-70 coupled to a mobile robot show the performance of such techniques through comparisons.

Silicon-based charge trapping memory (CTM) devices currently dominate the nonvolatile memory (NVM) technology due to their excellent reliability, scalability, and maturity of the manufacturing process;however, they are rigid, which limits their potential in futuristic applications, such as wearables and flexible displays, among many others;moreover, the majority of previously reported studies on flexible NVM have been limited to either nonsilicon-based CTM or to emerging NVM technologies, such as ferroelectric random access memory and memristors, among others, which still need to overcome different challenges, including, but not limited to, reliability issues and complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) compatibility. In this article, a flexible silicon-based CTM device is developed using a volumetric reduction process. A MOS memory structure with a 7-nm thin Si3N4 layer embedded between 5-nm tunneling (SiO2) and 9-nm blocking oxides (Al2O3) is first fabricated. Next, a backside sequential etching process transforms the rigid die into an ultrathin (20μm) flexible Si die for future application in flexible electronics. The fabricated two-terminal device exhibits a 2.32 V memory window in both rigid and bent states, as observed using capacitance-voltage measurements. A three-terminal version of the device was also developed, where the source and drain terminals were activated using an in situ doped plasma-enhanced CVD (PECVD) process. The flexible encapsulated chip was tested using current-voltage measurements, and the performance was compared at different mechanical bending conditions. The electrical characterization confirms that the flexible devices show similar endurance (104 cycles) and retention (105s) performances to their rigid counterparts. © 2022 IEEE.

In general, public or private organizations or companies have used information-based technology as a support to improve business performance to be more effective and efficient in order to achieve a company's business goals. Given the large contribution of information technology in the application of hotel applications as a supporting information system, it is a vital system that must avoid risks that can hinder and cause harm to the hotel management business processes. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out risk management using the COBIT 5 framework to manage possible risks that may occur based on the APO12 (Manage Risk) domain. From the evaluation results of the data obtained through observation and interviews as well as the calculation of the results of the questionnaire based on 6 APO12 subdomains, the results of the risk management level capability assessment in hotel applications are still at level 3 or have reached the level of established process with the target to be achieved at level 4 resulting in a gap of 1 level. Based on the results obtained, it is necessary to propose recommendations that can be used by hotels in improving the application of information technology risk management so that in the future it can achieve the expected target level so that the APO12 level of capability can increase and become more optimal. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, a robust Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller was developed and evaluated for the Bebop 2 quadrotor drone. Polytopic uncertainties in the dynamic model were taken into account in the control design, ensuring robustness. The drone's localization was achieved using fiducial markers and a Kalman Filter for state estimation, integrating visual and positional data. The controller design utilized Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) to optimize performance while accounting for system constraints. A circular trajectory in three-dimensional space was employed to assess the controller's effectiveness in simulation. Results demonstrated precise trajectory tracking, stability, and robust performance despite parameter uncertainties. These findings highlight the applicability of the proposed framework for real-world scenarios involving underactuated UAVs.
