Increased dependence of the maritime industry on information and communication networks has made shipboard power systems vulnerable to stealthy cyber-attacks. One such attack variant, called rootkit, can leverage system knowledge to hide its presence and allow remotely located malware handlers to gain complete control of infected subsystems. This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation of the threat landscape imposed by such attack variants on Medium Voltage DC (MVDC) shipboard microgrids, including a discussion of their impact on the overall maritime sector in general, and provides several simulation results to demonstrate the same. It also analyzes and presents the actions of possible defense mechanisms, with specific emphasis on evasion, deception, and detection frameworks, that will help ship operators and maritime cybersecurity professionals protect their systems from such attacks.

GLIMPSE: ENABLING WHITE-BOX METHODS TO USE PROPRIETARY MODELS FOR ZERO-SHOT LLM-GENERATED TEXT DETECTION

Advanced large language models (LLMs) can generate text almost indistinguishable from human-written text, highlighting the importance of LLM-generated text detection. However, current zero-shot techniques face challenges as white-box methods are restricted to use weaker open-source LLMs, and black-box methods are limited by partial observation from stronger proprietary LLMs. It seems impossible to enable white-box methods to use proprietary models because API-level access to the models neither provides full predictive distributions nor inner embeddings. To traverse the divide, we propose Glimpse, a probability distribution estimation approach, predicting the full distributions from partial observations.1 Despite the simplicity of Glimpse, we successfully extend white-box methods like Entropy, Rank, Log-Rank, and Fast-DetectGPT to latest proprietary models. Experiments show that Glimpse with Fast-DetectGPT and GPT-3.5 achieves an average AUROC of about 0.95 in five latest source models, improving the score by 51% relative to the remaining space of the open source baseline. It demonstrates that the latest LLMs can effectively detect their own outputs, suggesting that advanced LLMs may be the best shield against themselves. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper studies the problem of adaptive distributed target detection for frequency diverse array multiple-input multiple-output (FDA-MIMO) radar, where the target is embedded in Gaussian clutter with unknown covariance matrix. The proposed FDA-MIMO radar detection model establishes distributed target detection as a summation expression, which is different from the traditional detection models in MIMO or phase array radars that discuss only point-like target. Next, according to the rules of generalized likelihood ratio tests (GLRT), Rao and Wald tests, we designed three adaptive detectors without the training data. The numerical results validate the proposed method and all theoretical analyses.

With the advancements in low-earth orbit (LEO) constellations, modern aerial platforms (APs), sector antennas, and device technologies, it is now becoming feasible to provide aerial platform-based cellular network (APCN) as an efficient and easy-to-deploy solution for post-disaster internet recovery. Similar to the terrestrial networks (TNs), sector access antennas have a huge potential for their usage in APs, such as tethered balloons, to provide a wide coverage and high-speed internet connectivity in disaster areas. However, in this paper, we show that many significant challenges remain in their commercial deployments which have received less attention so far. For instance, as the main cause of other challenges, by providing realistic 3D network simulations, we show that sectorized antenna-based APCNs suffer from inherent motions and vibrations of floating AP topologies, which causes moving and dynamic holes in the coverage and thus, confirms that the design of these APCNs is much more complicated than fixed TNs. To this end, by providing an easy-to-read brief review of existing aerospace post-disaster solutions, we show the superiority of APCNs which can bring several key benefits over the existing topologies, and then technically discuss its various challenges and open problems that need to be addressed before they can be deployed at a large scale.

Anchorene,identified as an endogenous bioactive carotenoid-derived dialdehyde and diapocarotenoid,affects root development by modulating auxin ***,the precise interaction between anchorene and auxin,as well as the mechanisms by which anchorene modulates auxin levels,remain largely *** this study,we conducted a comparative analysis of anchorene's bioactivities alongside auxin and observed that anchorene induces multifaceted auxin-like *** genetic and pharmacological examinations,we revealed that anchorene's auxin-like activities depend on the indole-3-pyruvate-dependent auxin biosynthesis pathway,as well as the auxin inactivation pathway mediated by Group II Gretchen Hagen 3(GH3)proteins that mainly facilitate the conjugation of indole-3-acetic acid(IAA)to amino acids,leading to the formation of inactivated storage *** measurements indicated that anchorene treatment elevates IAA levels while reducing the quantities of inactivated IAA–amino acid conjugates and ox *** sequencing further revealed that anchorene triggers the expression of numerous auxin-responsive genes in a manner reliant on Group II ***,our in vitro enzymatic assays and biolayer interferometry(BLI)assay demonstrated anchorene's robust suppression of GH3.17-mediated IAA conjugation with ***,our findings highlight the significant role of carotenoid-derived metabolite anchorene in modulating auxin homeostasis,primarily through the repression of GH3-mediated IAA conjugation and inactivation pathways,offering novel insights into the regulatory mechanisms of plant bioactive apocarotenoids.

The integration of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) and grant-free non-orthogonal multiple access (GF-NOMA) has emerged as a promising solution for enhancing spec-tral efficiency (SE) and massive connectivity in future wireless networks. This paper proposes a novel virtual RIS partitioning mechanism for GF-NOMA, where all user equipments (UEs) within a specific NOMA cluster have instantaneous access to resource blocks (RBs) without the need for grant acquisition and power control as in the traditional grant-based NOMA schemes. To achieve the required power disparity, RIS portions are allocated to the UEs in a manner that increases the reception power disparity. We derive closed-form equations for optimal RIS portions in two regimes of interest: 1) max-min fair regime and 2) maximum throughput regime. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed RIS-assisted GF-NOMA yields a gain of 28% and 15% in terms of max-sum rate and max-min rate, respectively, outperforming existing grant-based approaches. The study highlights the potential of combining RIS with GF-NOMA as a powerful solution for future wireless communication systems.

This study investigates the fabrication of innovative UV-blocking sheets that effectively transmit visible light while simultaneously obstructing harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, utilizing Cerium Oxide (CeO2) and Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles as UV-blocking agents. Three distinct fabrication methods were explored: The Powder Method, where nanoparticles were incorporated directly into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS); the Ball milling Mixture method, which involved mixing nanoparticles through ball milling; and the Solvent-Based Mixture method, where nanoparticles were dissolved, mixed, and dried; before incorporation into PDMS. Samples were produced using a 3D printing technique, which is Direct Ink Writing (DIW) and characterized for their optical properties via UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results indicated CeO2 demonstrated superior UV-blocking capabilities (a maximum blockage of ~99%) compared to ZnO, while maintaining high transmittance for visible light (a maximum of ~90%). Notably, the solvent-based method exhibited better results than the ball milling method; however, the powder method had the best results. Therefore, this investigation offers a promising solution for solar panel protection that aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 energy objectives. The relentless exposure of devices, particularly solar cells, to harmful UV radiation poses a formidable challenge and leads to annual degradation rates of between -0.8% and -4.9%, besides other factors. These findings underscore the critical importance of developing effective UV-blocking solutions.

In this paper, a novel distributed controller for multimachine power systems is proposed to guarantee grid frequency restoration and accurate real and reactive power sharing among the generator units, while maintaining the generator inputs (mechanical torque and field excitation voltage) within given bounds. The boundedness of the controller outputs (generator inputs) is rigorously proven using vector field theory. It is additionally shown that even if one generator input reaches its upper/lower limit, the remaining units can still accomplish the desired control tasks without modifying the controller structure or dynamics; hence introducing enhanced system resilience using the proposed approach. This has been accomplished in a unified control structure while using neighbour-to-neighbour communication, thus maintaining the distributed nature of the controller. An example of a 10-bus, 4-machine power system is simulated to verify the proposed controller performance under sudden changes of the load demand

With an increasing demand for radiation detection devices in diverse sectors such as healthcare, industrial safety, and environmental monitoring, there is an urgent need for portable and affordable personal dosimeters. We demonstrate a Mn-doped Cs₃Cu₂I₅ metal halide portable personal dosimeter for X-ray detection. The device is specifically tailored for individuals working in medical and security environments, providing a crucial safety measure when exposed to scattered X-ray beams. The portable dosimeter has a compact size of 20 × 20 mm and is highly sensitive to X-ray radiation. Equipped with photocurrent readout circuitry and advanced signal processing, our device ensures precise real-time monitoring of X-ray radiation, achieving a low-dose detection capability of 0.1 nGy/s. The device surpasses state-of-the-art personal dosimeters with its fast low-dose detection and easy readout using a mobile phone app, ensuring accurate measurements at minimum radiation levels. The device's compact size and low power consumption make it ideal for dosimetry applications. © 2025 The Author(s)
