Process injection techniques on Windows appli-cations are considered a serious threat to software security specialists. The attackers use these techniques to exploit the targeted program or process and take advantage of it by injecting a malicious process within the address space of the hosted process. Such attacks could be carried out using the so-called reverse engineering realm' the code caves'. For that reason, detecting these code caves in a particular application/program is deemed crucial to prevent the adversary from exploiting the programs through them. Code caves are simply a sequence of null bytes inside the executable program. They form due to the unuse of uninitialized variables. This paper presents a tool that can detect code caves in Windows programs by disassembling the program and looking for the code caves inside it;additionally, the tool will also eliminate those code caves without affecting the program's functionality. The tool has proven reliable and accurate when tested on various types of programs under the Windows operating system. © 2021 IEEE.

Aviation and maritime shipping are hard-to-abate transport sectors that are heavily dependent on fossil fuels. They jointly account for nearly 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while infrastructure and investments are locked into high-carbon pathways for decades. Fuels and technologies to decarbonize include advanced biofuels, electrofuels, hydrogen and electric propulsion. This research aims to analyse the decarbonization strategies for maritime shipping and aviation from a comparative perspective, and analyzing the role of different actors for disruption to break through carbon lock-in and path dependency. The research uses Sweden as a case study and applies qualitative methods, including expert interviews, focus group discussions, site visits. Our research finds that aviation and maritime shipping are slowly changing, albeit with different dynamics. Both sectors show that incumbent regime actors play a major role in shaping transition pathways and disrupting the (quasi)equilibrium, while niche innovation is often developed together by incumbents and niche players. © 2023, The Authors. Concealing an object from incoming waves (light and/or sound) remained science fiction for a long time due to the absence of wave-shielding materials in nature. Yet, the invention of artificial materials and new physical principles for optical and sound wave manipulation translated this abstract concept into reality by making an object optically and acoustically “invisible.” Here, we present the notion of a machine learning driven acoustic cloak and demonstrate an example of such a cloak with a multilayered core-shell configuration. We develop deterministic and probabilistic deep learning models based on autoencoderlike neural network structure to retrieve the structural and material properties of the cloaking shell surrounding the object that suppresses scattering of sound in a broad spectral range, as if it was not there. The probabilistic model enhances the generalization ability of design procedure and uncovers the sensitivity of the cloak's parameters on the spectral response for practical implementation. This proposal opens up avenues to expedite the design of intelligent cloaking devices for tailored spectral response and offers a feasible solution for inverse scattering problems.

Malware detection refers to the process of detecting the presence of Malware on a host system or of distinguishing whether a specific program is malicious. The different types of Malware created new challenges for the researchers to develop a concrete detection solution that can tackle the Malware effectively. Malware analysis can be classified into two methods: The first is done by analyzing the Malware statically without executing it. The second method is conducted by analyzing the Malware dynamically, which is conducted by monitoring it during its execution in an isolated, safe environment. This paper developed a tool that performs static analysis on the Malware to detect its behaviour. The tool works by extracting the suspected program's APIs and checking if those APIs are malicious or not. The tool showed promising results and high accuracy to tell whether the analyzed program is Keylogger, Ransomware, Backdoor or benign. Moreover, some false-positive results appeared during the tests when trying to identify software like Zoom and Team Viewer. © 2021 IEEE.

Insider threats have long posed significant risks to organizational security due to their internal origins and the ethical complexities involved. This paper addresses the critical problem of detecting insider threats by proposing a novel method based on analyzing physiological indicators exhibited by users while interacting with the system. Our approach involves monitoring and recording video footage of users, extracting frames, and analyzing physiological characteristics such as eye movements, facial expressions, and other stress-related indicators. These data points are quantified and assessed to determine the risk level associated with each user. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in identifying potential insider threats with high accuracy. This work’s novelty lies in integrating advanced biometric analysis into insider threat detection, providing a proactive and reliable solution to a pervasive security challenge.

This study pioneers a high-performance UV polarization-sensitive photodetector by ingeniously integrating non-centrosymmetric metal nanostructures into a graphene (Gr)∕Al2O3∕GaN heterojunction. Unlike conventional approaches constrained by graphene’s intrinsic isotropy or complex nanoscale patterning, our design introduces asymmetric metal architectures (E-/T-type) to artificially create directional anisotropy. These structures generate plasmon-enhanced localized electric fields that selectively amplify photogenerated carrier momentum under polarized UV light (325 nm), synergized with Fowler-Nordheim tunneling (FNT) across an atomically thin Al2O3 barrier. The result is a breakthrough in performance: a record anisotropy ratio of 115.5 (E-type, −2 V) and exceptional responsivity (97.7 A/W), surpassing existing graphene-based detectors by over an order of magnitude. Crucially, by systematically modulating metal geometry and density, we demonstrate a universal platform adaptable to diverse 2D/3D systems. This study provides a valuable reference for developing and practically applying photodetectors with higher anisotropy than ultraviolet polarization sensitivity. © 2025 Chinese Laser Press.

Metal halide perovskites have rapidly enabled a range of high-performance photovoltaic technologies. However, catastrophic failure under reverse voltage bias hinders their commercialization. In this work, we demonstrate that by employing a monolithic perovskite/silicon tandem structure, the perovskite subcell can be effectively protected by the silicon subcell under reverse bias, owing to the low reverse-bias diode current of the silicon subcell. As a result, the tested perovskite/silicon tandem devices show superior reverse-bias resilience compared to perovskite single-junction devices in both long-term reverse voltage biasing tests at the single-cell level and partial shading tests at the module level. These results highlight that, compared to other perovskite technologies, monolithic perovskite/silicon tandems are at a higher technology readiness level in terms of tackling the reverse-bias and partial shading challenge, which is a considerable advantage towards commercialization.

After the advancement of digital and Internet technologies, digital content mugging has become a major concern for the multimedia business to deal with. To combat piracy, digital rights management (DRM) systems are implemented. In DRM systems, protocols are being developed to provide secure communication. In this paper, we calibrate a recently proposed authentication protocol for DRM systems to understand security and privacy challenges. The objective of this cryptanalysis is to get a broad perspective of authentication schemes, which would help us to design secure and efficient authentication schemes for DRM systems. In this present study, we perform cryptanalysis of authentication protocol for DRM systems using biometrics by Khan et al.'s. Their scheme supports efficient communication and gives a better solution for the digital right management system. However, we identified that their scheme has some serious security flaws. Based on our analysis, we present a comparative study in terms of execution cost and security attributes to establish a tradeoff between efficiency and security. © 2022 IEEE.

Bayesian Parameter Inference for Partially Observed Diffusions using Multilevel Stochastic Runge-Kutta Methods

We consider the problem of Bayesian estimation of static parameters associated to a partially and discretely observed diffusion process. We assume that the exact transition dynamics of the diffusion process are unavailable, even up-to an unbiased estimator and that one must time-discretize the diffusion process. In such scenarios it has been shown how one can introduce the multilevel Monte Carlo method to reduce the cost to compute posterior expected values of the parameters for a pre-specified mean square error (MSE);see [12]. These afore-mentioned methods rely on upon the Euler-Maruyama discretization scheme which is well-known in numerical analysis to have slow convergence properties. We adapt stochastic Runge-Kutta (SRK) methods for Bayesian parameter estimation of static parameters for diffusions. This can be implemented in high-dimensions of the diffusion and seemingly under-appreciated in the uncertainty quantification and statistics fields. For a class of diffusions and SRK methods, we consider the estimation of the posterior expectation of the parameters. We prove that to achieve a MSE of O(ϵ2), for ϵ > 0 given, the associated work is O(ϵ−2). Whilst the latter is achievable for the Milstein scheme, this method is often not applicable for diffusions in dimension larger than two.
