In this paper, we study MIMO transmission schemes based on deep learning (DL). We propose a novel DL-based MIMO communication structure by combing a beamforming network at the transmitter side and a radio transformer network (RTN) at the receiver side. Compared with the classical DL-based MIMO communication systems, the interference is potentially mitigated by a precoding network and a RTN network, which is thus beneficial to improve the performance of signal detection. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the classical MIMO transmission schemes in terms of bit error rate (BER).

A Systems engineering Approach to the Design and Education of a Robotic Baby

In this paper, a novel architecture, Baby, for robotic babies is proposed with a systems engineering design approach. A robotic baby is an autonomous learning system with minimal structures at the beginning of its life, aiming to gradually learn languages and actions from interactions with human parents and the world. Throughout the paper, the philosophy and the reasoning behind a robotic baby with a systems engineering design approach is discussed. With the architecture, system verification and validation are conducted, which shows convincing language skills in parsing, similar to observed human cognitive behaviors. A proof of concept demonstration involving an integration with a 3D printer is also presented. With preliminary results, the roadmap for further development and the positioning of the architecture are presented. Copyright © 2021 by Hanqing Zhu and Eric Feron. This paper investigates the rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) transmission design for multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) uplink with EM exposure constraints. Specifically, the transmit covariance matrices and decoding order are optimized at the users and BS, respectively, via utilizing statistical channel state information (CSI) to maximize the energy efficiency (EE). The problem is formulated as non-convex mixed integer program, which is divided into the equivalent two subproblems. We first handle the inner problem by adopting the minorization-maximization (MM) and Dinkelbachs methods. Then, a modified water-filling scheme is proposed to obtain the transmit covariance matrices with fixed decoding permutation. For the outer problem, a greedy approach is proposed to obtain the decoding permutation. Numerical results verify the effectiveness of the proposed EM exposure aware EE maximization scheme for uplink RSMA.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a fast developing field that seeks to use cutting-edge technologies to enhance the sustainability, efficiency, and safety of transportation networks. The IoV can gain greatly from integrating blockchain in terms of security, trust, decentralization, smart contracts, and data management. This paper presents the weakness of a blockchain based lightweight authentication and key agreement scheme for internet of vehicles(BLAIV) proposed by Zheng et al. [1]. By performing thorough security analysis we have observed that the BLAIV scheme is vulnerable to various security attacks. The main cause for the security attacks is the BLAIV scheme stores the security parameters in the Onboard unit(OBU) of vehicle, due to which the BLAIV scheme is vulnerable to various attacks like vehicle or OBU capture attacks, session key computation attacks, and impersonation attacks. The paper also suggests possible changes to improve the BLAIV scheme.

Based upon two overlapped, body-unfitted meshes, a type of unified-field monolithic fictitious domain-finite element method (UFMFD-FEM) is developed in this paper for moving interface problems of dynamic fluid-structure interactions (FSI) accompanying with high-contrast physical coefficients across the interface and contacting collisions between the structure and fluidic channel wall when the structure is immersed in the fluid. In particular, the proposed novel numerical method consists of a monolithic, stabilized mixed finite element method within the frame of fictitious domain/immersed boundary method (IBM) for generic fluid-structure-contact interaction (FSCI) problems in the Eulerian-updated Lagrangian description, while involving the no-slip type of interface conditions on the fluid-structure interface, and the repulsive contact force on the structural surface when the immersed structure contacts the fluidic channel wall. The developed UFMFD-FEM for FSI or FSCI problems can deal with the structural motion with large rotational and translational displacements and/or large deformation in an accurate and efficient fashion, which are first validated by two benchmark FSI problems and one FSCI model problem, then by experimental results of a realistic FSCI scenario - the microfluidic deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) problem that is applied to isolate circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from blood cells in the blood fluid through a cascaded filter DLD microchip in practice, where a particulate fluid with the pillar obstacles effect in the fluidic channel, i.e., the effects of fluid-structure interaction and structure collision, play significant roles to sort particles (cells) of different sizes with tilted pillar arrays. Bone tissue engineering (BTE) is aims to develop advanced strategies to regenerate damaged or diseased bone, through the integration of principles from cellular biology, biomaterials science, and engineering. The vital aspect of these studies includes the design and fabrication of scaffolds that support cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, ultimately promoting the formation of new bone tissue. Recent developments in scaffold materials have focused on organic, inorganic, and composite biomaterials. Each of these showcasing unique and distinct advantages in terms of biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical strength. Polymers, such as poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), provide flexibility and degradation profiles, which are conducive to tissue integration. While ceramics, including hydroxyapatite (HA) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), offer mechanical properties similar to native bone. The fusion of organic and inorganic components in composites has yielded scaffolds with enhanced functionality, such as improved osteo-conductivity and controlled degradation rates. Advanced fabrication techniques, particularly electrospinning and 3D printing, have revolutionized scaffold design by enabling precise control over pore size, porosity, and surface architecture, critical parameters for mimicking the extracellular matrix (ECM) of bone. These structural characteristics directly influence cellular behaviors such as migration, proliferation, and differentiation, which are crucial for successful bone regeneration. This review critically evaluates the recent advances in biomaterials for scaffold fabrication, with a focus on optimizing the interplay between material properties and scaffold architecture to improve therapeutic outcomes in bone regeneration. LDM-Based Communication and Computation Co-Design in Integrated Satellite and Aerial Networks

This paper investigates a highly spectrally efficient transmission scheme in an integrated satellite and aerial network (ISAN). Specifically, we first propose a novel uplink access framework, where the co-design of communication and over-the-air computation (AirComp) is implemented through layer division multiplexing (LDM) in the aerial network, while the cognitive radio-inspired non-orthogonal multiple access (CR-NOMA) technology is employed in the satellite network. Then, according to the proposed framework, we mathematically formulate a joint optimization problem that aims at maximizing the system achievable sum rate, subject to the constraints of minimal accuracy requirement of AirComp and minimal quality-of-service requirements of communication service. Next, by introducing the inter-network interference-related auxiliary variable, we divide the original optimization problem into two subproblems associated with the optimization of the satellite and aerial networks. To tackle the first subproblem, we propose a beamspace-inspired analog beamforming (BF) method, and derive closed-form expressions for BF vectors and transmit powers to implement the CR-NOMA scheme in the satellite network. Meanwhile, to address the second subproblem, we propose a beamspace-inspired digital BF together with successive convex approximation and alternating optimization approaches, to obtain the BF matrices, transmit power coefficients and AirComp scaling factor, so that the LDM-based communication and computation co-design (CCCD) can be realized in the aerial network. Moreover, for complexity reduction, we propose a beamspace-inspired zero-forcing BF method to calculate the communication BF matrices, and then leverage the orthogonal beam superposition approach to obtain the computation BF matrix, thereby presenting another CCCD scheme. In this paper a model-based embedded systems design laboratory course development is presented. The course is an enhancement over an existing embedded systems laboratory course that uses conventional methods along with low-level and high-level programming languages in designing embedded systems. The proposed laboratory course introduces the concepts of model-based design, rapid prototyping, and auto-code generation to junior students of an undergraduate electrical engineering program. The students are exposed to model-based development and design through using MATLAB^® Simulink^®. The graphical environment of Simulink^® allows students to easily design and implement embedded software and generate code without worrying about the details of conventional coding issues. Moreover, MATLAB^® Simulink^® allows easy auto-code generation to be executed on a variety of microcontrollers and FPGAs. The developed lab course and its experiments were implemented for two semesters at least. One of them was during the COVID-19 shutdown and thus the lab was conducted by students at home. The students' feedback is promising and shows that the lab has helped attain more skills needed by the industry in addition to acquiring a new knowledge area that was not covered by the conventional curriculum.
