In offshore aquaculture operations, personnel equipped with diving gear are often necessary to inspect the underwater net cages for damage, particularly on the sea floor. This manual inspection process is time-consuming and complex. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a computer vision solution for identifying damage in underwater net cages to address the inefficiencies and challenges of traditional manual inspections. The proposed scheme utilizes a high-performance multi-branch computational architecture designed based on ShuffleNet architecture to detect net cage damage more efficiently. Experimental results demonstrate that this work performs well on the ImageNet ILSVRC-2010 dataset and achieves an accuracy of 88.54% in underwater net damage detection.

A vast number of technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) have proliferated into various application domains. As part of its objectives to develop agents which can behave and think like humans, some branches of AI have focused on developing various algorithms that can learn from input data without explicitly being program.ed. In the food industry, notably in restaurants, smartphone technology is typically used to collect data from customers efficiently such as orders or feedback toward the services provided. The use of smartphones by some restaurants is motivated by their convenience and efficiency. Furthermore, various promotions, discounts, and membership benefits offered by cellular service providers have attracted the use of smartphones as devices for improving restaurant services to their customers. This study aimed to conduct a sentiment analysis related to multi-brand restaurants in Indonesia based on customer feedback. The data retrieved from the Google Play Store consists of 756 reviews from Boga, Champs, Hangry, Ismaya, Kulo, and Union groups. In this study, TF-IDF was used as a vectorizer to represent customer feedback as numeric vectors. The polarity sentiment of customer feedback was recognized using classifier models based on machine learning such as Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes (NB), Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine (SVM) as the classifier. The empirical results showed that SVM has the best accuracy of 93.10 % average accuracy followed by Logistic Regression with 92.41 %, Random Forest with 84.14 % average accuracy, and Naive Bayes with 76.55 % average accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

Ensemble learning has gained attention due to its ability to improve predictive performance in classification and regression problems. However, there are several issues related to optimizing accuracy, diversity, and efficiency simultaneously in the ensemble learning process. Existing studies mostly focus on one or two of them, or focus on all three but only on the specific process of ensemble learning. Besides, the quantum approach has been expected to accelerate the optimization process while maintaining accuracy. The contribution of this study is to design a hybrid classical-quantum methodology for optimizing ensemble learning in a holistic way. This methodology combines classical (i.e. clustering, improved evaluation measures, and generalized weighted ensemble with internally tuned hyperparameters) and quantum (i.e. quantum annealing) approaches, and this methodology is analyzed to provide more optimal results. © 2022 IEEE.

Pupillometry measures pupil size, and several open-source algorithms are available to analyse pupillometry data. However, only a few studies compared these algorithms’ accuracy and computational resources. This study aims to compare the accuracy of computer vision-based algorithms (Swirski, Starburst, PuRe, ElSe, ExCuSe algorithms) and the machine learning algorithm, DeepLabCut, to the double-blinded human examiners (gold-standard). Training of DeepLabCut with different architectures and a variable number of markers (2-9 markers) was done on an open-source dataset. The duration of training was statistically longer for the ResNet152 model compared to the MobileNet model. The pupil diameters in computer vision-based software such as PuRe, Starburst, and Swirski were statistically different from human measurements. MobileNet 2 and 3 marker models were the closest to the human measurements. In conclusion, this work highlights the efficiency of lower marker models based on MobileNet architecture in DeepLabCut, which consumes fewer computational resources and is more accurate. © 2024 Institute of Information Technology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW. Natural disasters, particularly earthquakes, can cause the electric power system to collapse, which can be brought on by one of the infrastructure breakdowns in the power system. Damaged power system can cause losses to electricity providers, electricity users, so it is necessary to understand the vulnerability of electric power system assets to earthquakes. The research fragility function presents the concept of fragility function in power system of the entire power system, showed fragility of power plant, transmission line, tower transmission, transformers, generator, and substation. Substation is more fragile than the others because substation consist of circuit breaker and disconnecting switch the most fragile asset. In addition, this paper also presents how to creating the fragility function and several solutions to increase the resilience of the electric power system to earthquakes. © 2023 IEEE.

Performance Analysis of Economic Model Predictive Control on a Solar-Powered Direct Contact Membrane Distillation System

This paper proposes an economic model predictive control (EMPC) design for a Direct Contact Membrane Distillation powered by a solar collector system which aims at enhancing its economical performances. A differential algebraic equations-based model is used for the design of the EMPC control. Moreover, a nonlinear observer is developed for the estimation of the unmeasured state. A neural network is proposed to predict the unknown solar irradiance for future horizon where a solar model provides temperature predictions. The proposed control design has been validated in simulation using data provided by a partial differential equation-based model mimicking the real plant.

Reduction of active power losses in distribution networks is an important issue, which is usually addressed through a separate, sequential, or simultaneous feeder reconfiguration (FR), volt-var regulation (e.g., capacitor placement, CP), and control of distributed energy resources (DERs). However, finding optimal solution for a coordinated FR, CP, and DER control requires significant computational efforts, which are additionally increased when variations in loading conditions are considered. Therefore, load variations are usually neglected in related analysis, although changes in power flows influence changes in network losses and, consequently, optimal controls for FR, CP and DERs. This paper presents the analysis of both benefits and disadvantages of including not only the peak demands, but also different loading conditions for a coordinated implementation of FR, CP and DER controls for the reduction of losses. The analysis is illustrated on the several distribution test networks and using representative load patterns from the existing literature. The obtained results suggest that the inclusion of load variations requires significantly longer computational times, but in some cases affects optimal solutions for FR, CP and DER controls (their numbers, locations and settings). © 2023 IEEE.

Estimating the homography between two images is crucial for mid- or high-level vision tasks, such as image stitching and fusion. However, using supervised learning methods is often challenging or costly due to the difficulty of collecting ground-truth data. In response, unsupervised learning approaches have emerged. Most early methods, though, assume that the given image pairs are from the same camera or have minor lighting differences. Consequently, while these methods perform effectively under such conditions, they generally fail when input image pairs come from different domains, referred to as multimodal image *** address these limitations, we propose AltO, an unsupervised learning framework for estimating homography in multimodal image pairs. Our method employs a two-phase alternating optimization framework, similar to Expectation-Maximization (EM), where one phase reduces the geometry gap and the other addresses the modality gap. To handle these gaps, we use Barlow Twins loss for the modality gap and propose an extended version, Geometry Barlow Twins, for the geometry gap. As a result, we demonstrate that our method, AltO, can be trained on multimodal datasets without any ground-truth data. It not only outperforms other unsupervised methods but is also compatible with various architectures of homography estimators. The source code can be found at: https://***/songsang7/AltO

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that can attack the lungs and other organs. In the diagnosis of TB, the interpretation of X-ray radiological images requires special skills from medical specialists. However, the lack of experience of medical personnel and focus on X-ray examinations can be a challenge for radiologists because it has the potential to cause diagnostic errors in image interpretation. Therefore, we proposed a web-based application of real-time chest X-ray interpreter by integrating the deep learning model of Vision Transformer (ViT) to interpret chest X-ray images. The inference model was trained and tested on 652 normal and 652 tuberculosis X-ray images. The data preprocessing of Contrast Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) was implemented to increase chest X-ray image contrast as well as inference model performance. The proposed real time system can inteprete the tested chest x-ray images with an accuracy of 95% and with simulation duration time of 4.7 seconds.
