Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Agriculture is a vital industry for the people of Indonesia, but there are several obstacles, including limited space in urban areas and inefficient conventional sorting and harvesting methods. Using computer vision to choose hydroponic lettuce that is ready to be harvested and a robotic arm to bring the selected lettuce yields, the produced system aims to solve this problem. The system's computer vision algorithms include color space conversion, intensity transformation, and an algorithm for following borders. This project's research methodology combines a quantitative approach with an experimental approach, which consists of conducting several trials on the built system. Several trials demonstrated that the computer vision software was able to accomplish the specified objectives. The average success rate of the developed computer vision system is 93%, while the average success rate of the robot arm is 85%.

Detection of unknown but concerned objects such as diverse unknown suspicious objects in the sea area is a critical problem in military defense applications, but the problem is challenging because 1) a pre-trained detector cannot easily detect unknown but concerned objects, 2) it detects too many unconcerned objects such as usual objects in the coastal land area, and 3) we cannot easily establish a well-performing discriminator to divide the detected objects into unknown and known objects, as well as concerned and unconcerned objects because the unknown objects are not available, whereas the concerned and unconcerned objects are not clearly defined. To tackle this challenge, this paper proposes a real-time framework for unknown but concerned object detection in maritime environments by integrating object detection, segmentation, and out-of-distribution (OOD) detection techniques. In our framework, an object detector finds all object-like foregrounds by setting a low threshold and a segmentation deep-learning network filters out unconcerned foregrounds detected in the coastal land area. After that, to discriminate known or unknown objects among concerned objects detected in the sea area, a discriminator performs unsupervised OOD detection using bisecting K-means clustering. To boost the performance of the proposed framework, we apply a pre-processing scheme and a contrastive separation loss for segmentation. The proposed framework achieves a high detection rate of unknown but concerned objects with minimal detection of unconcerned objects (i.e., minimal false positives), surpassing baseline methods and demonstrating potential for enhanced maritime safety and security. A text encoder within Vision-Language Models (VLMs) like CLIP plays a crucial role in translating textual input into an embedding space shared with images, thereby facilitating the interpretative analysis of vision tasks through natural language. Despite the varying significance of different textual elements within a sentence depending on the context, efforts to account for variation of importance in constructing text embeddings have been lacking. We propose a framework of Semantic Token Reweighting to build Interpretable text embeddings (SToRI), which incorporates controllability as well. SToRI refines the text encoding process in CLIP by differentially weighting semantic elements based on contextual importance, enabling finer control over emphasis responsive to data-driven insights and user preferences. The efficacy of SToRI is demonstrated through comprehensive experiments on few-shot image classification and image retrieval tailored to user preferences. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Foot ulcers are one of the chronic wounds commonly occurring in diabetic patients and are associated with a high risk of major or minor amputations. Evaluation and measurement of such wounds are done manually by experts to assess the wound healing and suggest further treatment. Manual assessment methods can cause infections at times and are less feasible in the existence of pandemic situations. The development of artificial intelligence has brought a revolution in many domains of medical imaging. Deep learning-based computer-aided approaches can be applied to assist clinicians in assessing and monitoring chronic wounds. Wound segmentation helps to measure wound area which is useful for assessing its healing progress. In this research work, a deep learning-based segmentation method, namely Dual-UNet is presented for precisely segmenting the diabetic foot ulcers images. The foot ulcer images are passed to Dual-UNet to generate the mask image having the segmented wound area. We proposed two modified UNets each having a customized encoder and decoder with skip connections, atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) block, and output block to improve the segmentation results. We assessed our framework by performing experimentation on two benchmark datasets, named the foot ulcer segmentation (FUSeg) challenge and the AZH segmentation dataset. Additionally, we have also assessed our Dual-UNet for cross-corpora validation to demonstrate the generalization capability of the proposed approach. The qualitative and quantitative results highlight the accuracy and effectiveness of the Dual-UN et framework for segmenting chronic diabetic wounds. Future research should focus on the development of large and diverse wound datasets and improving the results for cross-corpora evaluation.

This paper demonstrates the seamless fabrication of optoelectronic memory by integrating HfSe 2 as a charge-trapping layer in a MOS memory structure. Through a spin coating technique, solution-processable HfSe 2 flakes with average thicknesses of 2 nm were deposited between the tunneling and blocking oxide layers. The charge-trapping material distribution and thickness were explored by Atomic Force Microscopy and X-ray Diffraction Spectroscopy. The electrical characterization of MOS memory revealed a memory window of 5.5 Volts under ±16 Volts biasing. Furthermore, the memory endurance exceeds 10 4 electrical program.ing and erasing cycles. The retention test performed at room temperature showed that the memory device is expected to lose only 10% of the stored charges after 10 years. Under light stimuli (405nm wavelength and output power ~ 20 mW) with electrical readout voltage, the MOS memory showed an increase in the memory window from 5.5 Volts to 6.5 Volts.

Due to the intermittent characteristics of solar radiation, the integration of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems into the power grid raises many power quality problems such as voltage drop, unstable grid frequency, and harmonics. Despite these drawbacks, the integration of large-scale PV systems into the grid definitely has several advantages. This paper investigates the positive impact of integrating large-scale PV systems into the electric power grid. In this study, the PV system contributes 10%-20% of the power to the grid. Load flow analysis based on the Newton Raphson model is used to calculate grid losses when the PV system is connected at different positions along the feeder line. The results showed that there was a decrease in power losses that occurred in the network from 29.4 kW to 29.2 kW when the PV system was injected into the network at the start of the power line. Then losses can be reduced from 29.4 kW to 29.1 kW when the PV system is integrated in the midfield. The reduction in power losses becomes more significant when the PV system is injected at the end of the line from 29.4 to 28.6 kW. In conclusion, integration of the PV system into the power grid can improve the power loss and voltage profile.

FPGAs are a compelling substrate for supporting machine learning inference. Tools such as High-Level Synthesis and hls4ml can shorten the development cycle for deploying ML algorithms on FPGAs, but can struggle to handle the large on-chip storage needed for many of these models. In particular the high BRAM usage found in many of these flows can cause Place & Route failures during synthesis. In this paper we propose using a Simulated-Annealing based flow to perform BRAM-aware quantization. This approach trades off inference accuracy with BRAM usage, to provide a high-quality inference engine that still meets on-chip resource constraints. We demonstrate this flow for Transformer-based machine learning algorithms, which include Flash Attention in a Stream-based Dataflow architecture. Our system imposes minimal accuracy drops, yet can reduce BRAM usage by 20%-50%, and improve power efficiency by 264%-812% compared to existing Transformer-based accelerators on FPGAs

As a novel 2D material, MoS 2 has shown excellent electrical properties and resistive switching characteristics to work as a switching layer for non-volatile memory. In this work, we drop cast the MoS 2 solution to prepare the thin film and deposit an interfacial layer of Al 2 O 3 . We demonstrate the proposed memristive device with Cu/Al 2 O 3 /MoS 2 /Pt structure to work as an artificial synapse. The device shows a steady resistive switching behavior with the SET and RESET voltages of 1.3 V and -0.5 V, respectively. We further demonstrate the synapse behavior via a Hopfield Neural Network (HNN) and achieve image recognition and reconstruction with a high accuracy of 96% after 15 training epochs.
