A discontinuous Galerkin time-domain scheme is formulated and implemented to analyze three-dimensional transient lasing dynamics. The proposed scheme solves a coupled system of the Maxwell and the rate equations. The atomic transitions through different energy levels are quantum-mechanically described by a four-level two-electron model, while the electro-magnetic interactions are treated using the Maxwell equations. The resulting solver accounts for the Pauli Exclusion Principle and permits robust simulation of lasing dynamics under optical pumping. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the applicability and the accuracy of the proposed scheme.

This paper proposes a low-cost interface and refined digital twin for the Raven-II surgical robot. Previous simulations of the Raven-II, e.g. via the Asynchronous Multibody Framework (AMBF), presented salient drawbacks, including control inputs inconsistent with Raven-II software, and lack of stable, high-fidelity physical contact simulations. This work bridges both of these gaps, both (1) enabling robust, simulated contact mechanics for dynamic physical interactions with the Raven-II, and (2) developing a universal input format for both simulated and physical platforms. The method furthermore proposes a low cost, commodity game-controller interface for controlling both virtual and real realizations of Raven-II, thus greatly reducing the barrier to access for Raven-II research and collaboration. Overall, this work aims to eliminate the inconsistencies between simulated and real representations of the Raven-II. Such a development can expand the reach of surgical robotics research. Namely, providing end-to-end transparency between the simulated AMBF and physical Raven-II platforms enables a software testbed previously unavailable, e.g. for training real surgeons, for creating digital synthetic datasets, or for prototyping novel architectures like shared control strategies. Experiments validate this transparency by comparing joint trajectories between digital twin and physical testbed given identical inputs. This work may be extended and incorporated into recent efforts in developing modular or common software infrastructures for both simulation and control of real robotic devices, such as the Collaborative Robotics Toolkit (CRTK).

The escalating visibility of secure direct object reference (IDOR) vulnerabilities in API security, as indicated in the compilation of OWASP Top 10 API Security Risks, highlights a noteworthy peril to sensitive data. This study explores IDOR vulnerabilities found within Android APIs, intending to clarify their inception while evaluating their implications for application security. This study combined the qualitative and quantitative approaches. Insights were obtained from an actual penetration test on an Android app into the primary reasons for IDOR vulnerabilities, underscoring insufficient input validation and weak authorization methods. We stress the frequent occurrence of IDOR vulnerabilities in the OWASP Top 10 API vulnerability list, highlighting the necessity to prioritize them in security evaluations. There are mitigation recommendations available for developers, which recognize its limitations involving a possibly small and homogeneous selection of tested Android applications, the testing environment that could cause some inaccuracies, and the impact of time constraints. Additionally, the study noted insufficient threat modeling and root cause analysis, affecting its generalizability and real-world relevance. However, comprehending and controlling IDOR dangers can enhance Android API security, protect user data, and bolster application resilience.

In this paper, we investigate the fundamental limits of reliable communication over a discrete memoryless channel (DMC) when there are a large number of noisy views of a transmitted symbol, i.e., when several copies of a single symbol are sent independently through the DMC. We argue that the channel capacity and dispersion of such a multi-view DMC converge exponentially quickly in the number of views to to the entropy and varentropy of the input distribution, respectively, and identify the exact rate of convergence. This rate equals the smallest Chernoff information between two conditional distributions of the output given unequal inputs. Our results hence help us characterize the largest finite-blocklength rates achievable for any fixed error probability. We also present a new channel model that we call the Poisson approximation channel-of possible independent interest-whose capacity closely approximates the capacity of the multi-view binary symmetric channel (BSC).

Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has recently stimulated an upsurge of research interest due to its capability of enhancing the spectral and energy efficiencies for future sixth generation (6G) wireless communication systems. This motivates the integration of IRS into simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) systems to improve the performance of energy harvesting and information de-coding. To unleash the full potential of IRS and achieve high sum-rate, the optimal joint transmitter precoding and reflective beamforming design is crucial yet challenging to solve. The issue has not been well investigated and the solution remains elusive. Hence, this research aims to jointly optimize the transmitter precoding and reflective beamforming matrices for IRS-Assisted multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) SWIPT systems under quality of service (QoS) constraints. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of IRS in enhancing the system performance. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper considers the problem of designing non-pharmaceutical intervention (NPI) strategies, such as masking and social distancing, to slow the spread of a viral epidemic. We formulate the problem of jointly minimizing the infection probabilities of a population and the cost of NPIs based on a Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible (SIS) propagation model. To mitigate the complexity of the problem, we consider a steady-state approximation based on the quasi-stationary (endemic) distribution of the epidemic, and prove that the problem of selecting a minimum-cost strategy to satisfy a given bound on the quasi-stationary infection probabilities can be cast as a submodular optimization problem, which can be solved in polynomial time using the greedy algorithm. We carry out experiments to examine effects of implementing our NPI strategy on propagation and control of epidemics on a Watts-Strogatz small-world graph network. We find the NPI strategy reduces the steady state of infection probabilities of members of the population below a desired threshold value. © 2024, CC BY.

Osteoporosis is a common disease characterized by low bone density and structural deterioration of bone tissue. For a successful course of treatment and fracture avoidance, early diagnosis of this disease is essential. The aim was to provide a novel method for osteoporosis prediction using Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based framework. The purpose was to predict the likelihood of osteoporosis based on the Bone Mineral Density (BMD), along with other characteristics such as age, weight, height, gender, and Body Mass Index (BMI) extracted from medical reports and images collected from a comprehensive medical center in Lebanon. Three machine-learning algorithms were implemented and tested, Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Decision Trees (DT). Variety of quantitative statistical metrics were used to evaluate the performance of our framework, upon training and testing our algorithms. The metrics that were employed to evaluate our results included accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and F-score, in addition to the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) Curve and the Area Under the Curve (AUC). Experimental Results demonstrated that both the SVM and LR algorithms achieved the highest accuracy of detection of osteoporosis as compared to existing algorithms applied in this field, with an accuracy of 89%. The sensitivity of diagnosis obtained was 98% by LR and 97% by SVM and surpassed the sensitivity obtained by DT. As such LR showed the best performance. The output of the algorithms could help medical doctors assess patients automatically. These findings demonstrated the potential of AI in osteoporosis prediction and thus prevention, highlighting the significance of early diagnosis. Thereby as a future prospect, choosing carefully the framework is crucial and additional algorithms have to be considered and tested.

While recent large-scale neural codec language models have shown significant improvement in zero-shot TTS by training on thousands of hours of data, they suffer from drawbacks such as a lack of robustness, slow sampling speed similar to previous autoregressive TTS methods, and reliance on pre-trained neural codec representations. Our work proposes P-Flow, a fast and data-efficient zero-shot TTS model that uses speech prompts for speaker adaptation. P-Flow comprises a speech-prompted text encoder for speaker adaptation and a flow matching generative decoder for high-quality and fast speech synthesis. Our speech-prompted text encoder uses speech prompts and text input to generate speaker-conditional text representation. The flow matching generative decoder uses the speaker-conditional output to synthesize high-quality personalized speech significantly faster than in real-time. Unlike the neural codec language models, we specifically train P-Flow on LibriTTS dataset using a continuous mel-representation. Through our training method using continuous speech prompts, P-Flow matches the speaker similarity performance of the large-scale zero-shot TTS models with two orders of magnitude less training data and has more than 20× faster sampling speed. Our results show that P-Flow has better pronunciation and is preferred in human likeness and speaker similarity to its recent state-of-the-art counterparts, thus defining P-Flow as an attractive and desirable alternative. The development of the internet is getting faster, participating in encouraging the emergence of new and innovative information. In filtering the various information that appears, we need a recommended system to perform well for users in today's internet era. A well-performing recommendation system in question is a reliable recommendation algorithm. This algorithm is fundamental to analyzing various information, such as responses on social media based on user behavior data related to the topic of COVID. This data is crawled from tweets on social media Twitter. The data analysis algorithm obtained uses Python, which is then visualized in the form of a diagram. The processed data is user comments on Twitter, and the text data is analyzed using Python, using more than 60000 data sets taken to form visualizations and conclusions. From sentiment analysis, polarity and subjectivity data are obtained to be analyzed, which are negative, neutral, or positive. The result is show positive tweets with 29.2%, negative tweets is 13%, and 57.8% neutral tweets. Lastly, sentiment analysis can help people effectively infer vast and complex data from social media like Twitter. © 2022 IEEE.
