Describing the semantic content of an image via natural language, known as image captioning, has recently attracted substantial interest in computer vision and language processing communities. Current image captioning approaches are mainly based on an encoder-decoder framework in which visual information is extracted by an image encoder and captions are generated by a text decoder, using convolution neural networks (CNN) and recurrent neural networks (RNN), respectively. Although this framework is promising for image captioning, it has limitations in utilizing the encoded visual information for generating grammatically and semantically correct captions in the RNN decoder. More specifically, the RNN decoder is ineffective in using the contextual information from the encoded data due to its limited ability in capturing long-term complex dependencies. Inspired by the advantage of gated recurrent unit (GRU), in this paper, we propose an extension of conventional RNN by introducing a multi-layer GRU that modulates the most relevant information inside the unit to enhance the semantic coherence of captions. Experimental results on the MSCOCO dataset show the superiority of our proposed approach over the state-of-the-art approaches in several performance metrics. © 2022 European Signal Processing Conference, EUSIPCO. Image captioning aims to generate a description of visual contents with natural language automatically. This is useful in several potential applications, such as image understanding and virtual assistants. With recent advances in deep neural networks, natural and semantic text generation has been improved in image captioning. However, maintaining the gradient flow between neurons in consecutive layers becomes challenging as the network gets deeper. In this paper, we propose to integrate an auxiliary classifier in the residual recurrent neural network, which enables the gradient flow to reach the bottom layers for enhanced caption generation. Experiments on the MSCOCO and VizWiz datasets demonstrate the advantage of our proposed approach over the state-of-the-art approaches in several performance metrics. © 2022 European Signal Processing Conference, EUSIPCO. This study focused on designing a motorcycle speed limiter using GPS with throttle modification. The study was brought about the increase in road accidents involving motorcycle vehicles tagged to be overspeeding and some not wearing helmets. The designed system focused on controlling the throttle of the motorcycle through a microcontroller and a GPS. Also, communication from the helmet to the motorcycle was established to complete the system functionality. The system does not allow the use of the said motorcycle once the rider does not wear the helmet prescribed for the said motorcycle. Speed control of the designed system relies solely upon the GPS, making it different from typical sensory for speed and PID algorithm applied in servo motor to control the throttle acceleration. The selected road stretch was assigned 30 kph,40kph, and 60 kph, respectively. Initial tests showed a responsive rate of all parameters of the helmet and LCD design. © 2021 IEEE.

Research has been carried out to monitor vehicle tires before they are used and can reduce damage, including overcoming vehicle fuel waste because air pressure is continuously monitored. This research aims to utilize the MPX5500DP sensor as an air pressure device, the LM35 sensor as a temperature reader, and a buzzer based on IoT to build a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The MPX5500DP and LM35 sensor inputs to the Arduino Uno microcontroller are distributed by the NodeMCU, fitted with a Wi-Fi module. The Blynk application sends and displays the data on a smartphone using the IoT-based. Based on this research, data on the percentage of errors in monitoring air pressure and tire temperature on vehicles were obtained by comparing the data to the pressure gauge and thermometer: 1-the results of the average reading of the sensor error value. MPX5500DP air pressure against pressure gauge is 5.3%. 2-the average reading of the LM35 sensor error value on the temperature thermometer is 6.8%. With this research, the air pressure and temperature in the tires can be monitored in real-Time via a smartphone using the IoT-based. © 2022 IEEE.

Service systems' business processes show the existence of mutual interaction between users. Running a particular business subdomain requires the role of each user. This role is in line with the concept contained in blockchain-based smart contracts. However, determining the subdomains that require smart contract coding is challenging in developing business processes that will run on the blockchain. We aim to determine the service-oriented business process (in the case of marketplace service) and the subdomain of the business process that requires smart contract coding. This article is essential because it shows how developing IT services without a smart contract differs from developing IT services with a smart contract. The main differences between developing services that need smart contracts and those that do not are that certain process can be run automatically and the record of activity in blockchain cannot be changed by anyone (tamper-proof). We outlined methods for designing marketplace business processes and defined subdomains to be encoded into smart contract code. After reviewing the three marketplace platforms, we determined eight subdomains of the marketplace business process. Two subdomains require smart contract coding from eight, namely the payment and complaint subdomains. © 2022 IEEE.

The increasing demand for high dynamic range (HDR), power efficiency, and high resolution has driven the adoption of single-exposure dual conversion gain (DCG) techniques. This paper proposes an adaptive split current source to optimize power consumption in single-exposure DCG readouts. By splitting the comparator bias current, the power consumption of the digitizer array can be adaptively optimized based on the conversion gain (CG) of pixel in single-exposure DCG operation. Additional power-saving features including decision-feedback and auto-zeroing (AZ) power-down techniques are also implemented to further improve power efficiency. The proposed digitizer chip was fabricated in a 28 nm CMOS process, achieving a power consumption reduction of 44.5% in comparator. The integral nonlinearity (INL) was measured as +2.67/–2.34 LSB in high conversion gain (HCG) and +2.95/–1.92 LSB in low conversion gain (LCG). The input-referred random noise (RN) values of 2.17 LSB (HCG) and 2.41 LSB (LCG) were measured at an analog gain of 16, corresponding to 93 μVrms and 103 μVrms, respectively. The prototype chip shows a highly competitive figure of merit (FoM) of 2.41 mV∙pJ/pixel/frame. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

This study focuses on brain tumor detection and segmentation using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) with architectures of Fully Convolutional Net-work (FCN) and VGG16. The dataset imported for this study consists of brain MRI images, which were preprocessed to improve the overall image resolution. Data augmentation techniques were applied to heighten the variability and volume of the training data. For feature extraction, CNN models were utilized, specifically the VGG16 architectures. This model was trained on a preprocessed dataset to learn the important features associated with the presence of brain tumor. Image segmentation was performed to precisely outline and identify the tumor region within the brain images. FCN architecture was employed for this task, which allowed pixel-level classification of tumor regions. Finally, image classification was carried out to group brain images based on the absence or presence of a tumor. The trained models were evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall and F1score as the performance metrics. The results of the study demonstrated promising outcomes, achieving an accuracy score of 93% and a precision, recall and f1score ranging from 75% to 100% based on the specific type of tumor enlisted. This indicates that the developed CNN models, with the FCN and VGG16 architectures, effectively detect and segment brain tumors from MRI images. The findings of this study contribute to the field of medical image analysis and gives a foundation for further research and development in brain tumor diagnosis and treatment. The study recommends the use of more deep learning algorithms for the process of detecting brain tumors. © 2024 IEEE.

Ultrawide bandgap AlN is a highly attractive material for power and radio frequency electronics. Unipolar n-AlN Schottky barrier diodes have demonstrated their strengths, whereas further development of AlN-based bipolar devices is desired but lacked. In this letter, we report single-crystalline p-Si/n-AlN p-n diodes (PNDs) with superior performance, accomplished by grafting a p-type Si nanomembrane onto an n-AlN film. Improved Ohmic contact directly on n-AlN was obtained through high temperature annealing at 1100 °C with contact resistivity of 4.9×10-3 Ω. cm2. The PNDs exhibited remarkable uniformity across the wafer, excellent rectifying characteristics with a high ratio of ~3×107 at ±10 V, low leakage current density of ~6.25×10-9 A/cm2 at -10 V, and hysteresis-free operation from -10 V to 30 V. Furthermore, the devices demonstrated superior thermal stability, with the on-resistance decreasing from 15.8 to 0.33 Ω. cm2 as temperature increased from room temperature to 100 °C, revealing an activation energy of ~425 meV for deep donor state in AlN. No destructive breakdown of the devices was observed up to –894 V. These results highlight the Si/AlN PNDs’ potential for development of AlN-based electronic devices. © 1980-2012 IEEE.
