Objective: Recent advancements demonstrate the significant role of digital microfluidics in automating laboratory work with DNA and on-site viral testing. However, since commercially available instruments are limited to droplet manipulation, our work addresses the need for accelerated integration of other components, such as temperature control, that can expand the application domain. Methods: We developed PhageBox— an accessible device that can be used as a biochip extension. At hardware level, PhageBox integrates temperature and electromagnetic control modules. At software level, PhageBox is controlled by embedded software containing a unique model for bio-protocol program.ing, and a graphical user interface for visual device feedback and operation. Results: To evaluate PhageBox’s efficacy for biomedical applications, we performed functional testing. Similarly, we validated the temperature control using thermography, obtaining a range of ±0.2◦C. The electromagnets produced a magnetic force of 15 milliTesla, demonstrating precise immobilization of magnetic beads. We show the potential of PhageBox for bacteriophage research through three initial protocols: a universal framework for PCR, T7 bacteriophage restriction enzyme digestion, and concentrating X174 RF genomic DNA. Conclusion: Our work presents an open-source hardware and software extension for digital microfluidics devices. This extension integrates temperature and electromagnetic modules, demonstrating efficacy in biomedical applications and potential for bacteriophage research. Significance: We developed PhageBox to be accessible: the components are off-the-shelf at a low cost (≤$200), and the hardware designs and software code are open-source. The development aims to mimic the anthropomorphic specifications of a human head by using available modern equipment such as the 3D printing machine. The proponents developed mechanisms to meet the Anthropomorphic data of a human head, angle of actuation, and the angular velocity of the mouth, eyes, and neck. The proponents also tested motor torque and stress on the parts to ensure the robustness of the machine, which yields 520 N-mm and 27.74 MPa on the neck tilting, 188 N-mm and 24.74 Mpa on neck swinging, 114 N-mm, and 12.09 Mpa on the neck panning, 73 and 7.052 MPa on the Eye Tilting. The maximum angular velocity of each part is 266.33 deg/sec on neck tilting, 262.33 deg/sec on neck swinging, 314 deg/sec on neck panning, 795.66 deg/sec on eye tilting, and 785.66 deg/sec on eye panning. The Proponents used the MPU-6050 accelerometer to test for the result of this study to achieve the required data. The effectiveness of the machine is as follows;eyes, 92.43% for panning, and 93.60% for tilting, neck, 89.20% for panning, 75.66% for tilting, 75.52% for swinging, for the mouth, 81.94%. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents a satellite hyperspectral image processing method that utilizes a maximum abundance classifier to categorize different regions of hyperspectral images into ground truth classes. First, the class names for each endmember and their corresponding columns in the signature matrix are identified, followed by the visualization of their spectral profiles. Abundance maps for the endmembers are then generated using the fully constrained least squares (FCLS) method. Afterward, the maximum abundance classifier is applied, and the resulting classified image is displayed with color-coded pixels. The abundance maps illustrate the spatial distribution of endmembers across the hyperspectral image, where the abundance values of each pixel represent the proportion of each endmember present. By determining the highest abundance value for each pixel and assigning it to the corresponding endmember class, the pixels within the hyperspectral images are classified. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed MAC method effectively handles mixed pixels. In addition, it can effectively deal with the mixed pixel problem in hyperspectral images because it identifies components by calculating the abundance values for each pixel rather than relying solely on single spectral features.

This article explores the development and implementation of futuristic bins with automated waste sortation systems to address improper and mixed waste disposal challenges. Despite the existence of categorized waste bins, individuals often dispose of waste improperly, hindering the sorting and decomposition processes. Integrating advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), futuristic bins offer innovative solutions. Futuristic bins with automated sorting systems facilitate accurate waste sorting, reduce mixing, and optimize waste disposal. These bins increase efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize collection routes while promoting environmental cleanliness and awareness of waste management. The article describes the research methodology, including preliminary study, specification requirements analysis, prototype development, and testing. The results demonstrate the implemented system's accuracy and real-time object detection capabilities. The study also acknowledges limitations and suggests future research directions, including improving communication between object detection algorithms and microcontrollers. Overall, the development of futuristic bins with automated waste sortation systems represents a significant advancement in waste management, with the potential to revolutionize waste management systems and create sustainable cities and communities.

Personalized federated learning is aimed at allowing numerous clients to train personalized models while participating in collaborative training in a communication-efficient manner without exchanging private data. However, many personalized federated learning algorithms assume that clients have the same neural network architecture, and those for heterogeneous models remain understudied. In this study, we propose a novel personalized federated learning method called federated classifier averaging (FedClassAvg). Deep neural networks for supervised learning tasks consist of feature extractor and classifier layers. FedClassAvg aggregates classifier weights as an agreement on decision boundaries on feature spaces so that clients with not independently and identically distributed (non-iid) data can learn about scarce labels. In addition, local feature representation learning is applied to stabilize the decision boundaries and improve the local feature extraction capabilities for clients. While the existing methods require the collection of auxiliary data or model weights to generate a counterpart, FedClassAvg only requires clients to communicate with a couple of fully connected layers, which is highly communication-efficient. Moreover, FedClassAvg does not require extra optimization problems such as knowledge transfer, which requires intensive computation overhead. We evaluated FedClassAvg through extensive experiments and demonstrated it outperforms the current state-of-the-art algorithms on heterogeneous personalized federated learning tasks.

This study aims to increase the number of access users by limiting the sample size to 30 users while ensuring that every Optical Network Unit (ONU) receives data from the Optical Line Terminal (OLT). The proposed solution allows for the determination of power requirements at each ONU based on bus-star topologies, facilitating an increase in user capacity. The power received by each ONU is a critical parameter that system designers must consider when planning the implementation of Fiber to the Home (FTTH), as it impacts the output data in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal Quality Factor (QF) for each user. Various parameters were evaluated to ensure that the enhanced network improves scalability while adhering to standard specifications. These parameters included the Q-factor, BER, eye diagram, user count, and received power. The study employed slicing and duplication techniques, utilizing Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) for signal duplication and Wavelength Division Multiplexing for signal slicing. The simulations were conducted using a transmitter operating at a frequency of 1491 nm with a power output of 0 dBm, utilizing the latest version of OptiSystem 20 software. The results highlighted the system's capability to support a total of 73,728 users, meeting stringent performance criteria. Specifically, the system achieved a Q-factor greater than 6, indicating high signal quality, and a bit error rate (BER) lower than 1 × 10-9, ensuring reliable data transmission. For the sampled 30 users, the average Q factor was 8.1527, and the average BER was 5.3648 × 10^-11, with an output power level of -54.278 dBm. Despite an increase in users, the quality of the data supplied to clients remained unchanged. These outcomes underscore the robustness and efficiency of the design in delivering high-capacity, error-resilient optical communication. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.
