In this paper we consider the filtering problem associated to partially observed McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (SDEs). The model consists of data that are observed at regular and discrete times and the objective is to compute the conditional expectation of (functionals) of the solutions of the SDE at the current time. This problem, even the ordinary SDE case is challenging and requires numerical approximations. Based upon the ideas in [3, 12] we develop a new particle filter (PF) and multilevel particle filter (MLPF) to approximate the afore-mentioned expectations. We prove under assumptions that, for ϵ > 0, to obtain a mean square error of O(ϵ2) the PF has a cost per-observation time of O(ϵ−5) and the MLPF costs O(ϵ−4) (best case) or O(ϵ−4 log(ϵ)2) (worst case). Roadblocks to Attracting Students to Software Testing Careers: Comparisons of Replicated Studies

Context. Recently, a family of studies highlighted the unpopularity of software testing careers among undergraduate students in software engineering and computer science courses. The original study and its replications explored the perception of students in universities in four countries (Canada, China, India, and Malaysia), and indicated that most students do not consider a career in software testing as an option after graduation. This scenario represents a problem for the software industry since the lack of skilled testing professionals might decrease the quality of software products and increase the number of unsuccessful projects. Goal. The present study aims to replicate, in Brazil, the studies conducted in the other four countries to establish comparisons and support the development of strategies to improve the visibility and importance of software testing among undergraduate students across the globe. Method. We followed the same protocol in the original study to collect data using a questionnaire and analyzed the answers using descriptive statistics and qualitative data analysis. Results. Our findings indicate similarities among the results obtained in Brazil in comparison to those obtained from other countries. We observed that students are not motivated to follow a testing career in the software industry based on a belief that testing activities lack challenges and opportunities for continuous learning. Conclusions. In summary, students seem to be interested in learning more about software testing. However, the lack of discussions about the theme in software development courses, as well as the limited offer of courses focused on software quality at the university level reduce the visibility of this area, which causes a decrease in the interest in this career. © 2022, CC BY.

Path planning is a crucial component of autonomous navigation and frequently demands different priorities such as path length, safety, or energy consumption, with the latter being particularly important in the context of unmanned autonomous vehicles. In many applications, the agent may have to react to environment shifting. Algorithms such as geometric and dynamic program.ing as well as techniques such as artificial potential fields have been employed to tackle this local planning problem. In recent years, machine learning has gained more evidence in many research fields due to its flexibility and generalization capabilities. In this study, we propose a Q-learning-based approach to local planning, which weighs three crucial factors- path length, safety, and energy consumption- that can be freely adjusted by the user to suit its application’s needs. The performance of the proposed method was tested in simulated static and dynamic scenarios as well as benchmarked with a baseline approach. The results show that it can perform well in both kinds of environments without struggling with the commom pitfalls of other local planning algorithms.

In the next few years, the new generation of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) promises an advanced level of self-driving experiences. One of the most challenging topics in AVs development is the readiness of object detection models in complex urban environments. Mixed traffic is a complex urban environment that contains much uncertainty and is composed of heterogeneous objects. Therefore, this paper evaluates benchmarking the pre-trained CNN model for object detection in a mixed traffic environment. The evaluation is conducted for five modern algorithms and architecture of neural networks, including Faster RCNN, SSD, YOLOv3, YOLOv4, and EfficientDet. Then, we provide a new dataset in the mixed traffic environment under night conditions for more accurate object detection. Moreover, we conduct the simulation by considering the performance parameters that are recall, precision, and F measure. The performance of our dataset is also compared to the MS-COCO dataset. The result shows that the average precision value of Faster RCNN, SSD, YOLOv3, YOLOv4, and EfficientDet is 16.70%, 8.90%, 19.67%, 43.90%, and 55.56% respectively. It shows that YOLOv4 and EfficientDet provide better object detection accuracy than other CNN models. © 2022 IEEE.

We propose a flexible white-light system for high-speed visible-light communication(VLC)applications,which consists of a semipolar blue InGaN/GaN single-quantum-well micro-light-emitting diode(LED)on a flexible substrate pumping green CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum-dot(PQD)paper in nanostructure form and red CdSe QD *** highest bandwidth for CsPbBr3 PQD paper,229 MHz,is achieved with a blue micro-LED pumping source and a high data transmission rate of 400 Mbps;this is very promising for VLC *** 817 MHz maximum bandwidth and a 1.5 Gbps transmission speed are attained by the proposed semipolar blue *** proposed flexible white light system and the high-bandwidth PQD paper could pave the way for VLC wearable devices.

Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) is an actionable, evidence-based knowledge management system of cyber threats data. CTI consists of 3 (three) major parts, namely information gathering, analysis, and dissemination. To carry out dissemination in CTI, Structured Threat Information Expression (STIX) and Trusted Automated Exchange of Intelligence Information (TAXII) have been developed as open and interoperable standards for the CTI dissemination. An effective CTI is a CTI that can be integrated into the organization's security operations processes. Many organizations today runs CTI with a mechanism for reporting and distributing information in the dissemination process or known as cyber threat information sharing which has significant effects on security operations performance. In this study, user requirements analysis and design of cyber threat information sharing processes were carried out. From the results of the requirement analysis, a suitable business process re-engineering were proposed to accelerate the automation of CTI, especially in the information sharing part. Lastly, the designed processes were tested by simulating the processes using STIX and TAXII-based platform. The results of this study indicate that the designed processes can be run on STIX and TAXII-based platforms, ergo a step toward to a fully automated CTI. © 2021 IEEE.

Stress, as a reaction to threatening situations, can raise heart rate and result in serious conditions that might cause significant damage or even be life-threatening. Traditional methods for evaluating stress, which rely on subjective self-reporting and clinical assessments, often suffer from biases and inconsistencies. Artificial intelligence models have been explored to predict stress levels more accurately. This paper investigates the application of Extreme Gradient Boosting in classifying psychological stress using the WESAD dataset, which includes parameters such as acceleration, electrocardiogram, electromyography, electrodermal activity, temperature, and respiration. The dataset was balanced and sampled to create a manageable subset for experimental. Extreme Gradient Boosting was chosen for its efficiency and scalability in handling complex datasets. The model was trained and validated, achieving a 95% accuracy in predicting stress levels. This study highlights the potential of integrating Extreme Gradient Boosting models into wearable devices for real-time stress monitoring. Future work involves optimizing the model to utilize fewer sensors without decreasing accuracy, ensuring it can be integrated into portable/wearable systems using tiny microcontrollers.

The demand for electricity has increased rapidly and, for this reason, there is a need to efficiently use it. In this way, the identification of residential appliances enables such use for consumers and is crucial for demand response program.. Due to the variety of appliances in homes and their dynamic behavior, the search for patterns that explain and allow the correct labeling of temporal windows becomes a challenging task, since a window may contain more than one appliance. In this sense, the present paper proposes the transformation of time-series into images, using Gramian angular field and recurrence plots. The dataset composed of images was submitted to the labeling process, considering the use of convolutional neural networks. A comparative analysis was performed using the UK-DALE dataset. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed feature engineering stage, since the labeling task reached F1-scores until 94 %.

Recently, Metaverse has attracted increasing attention from both industry and academia, because of the significant potential to integrate real and digital worlds ever more seam-lessly. By combining advanced wireless communications, edge computing and virtual reality (VR) technologies into Metaverse, a multidimensional, intelligent and powerful wireless edge Meta-verse is created for future human society. In this paper, we design a privacy preserving targeted advertising strategy for the wireless edge Metaverse. Specifically, a Metaverse service provider (MSP) allocates bandwidth to the VR users so that the users can access Metaverse from edge access points. To protect users' privacy, the covert communication technique is used in the downlink. Then, the MSP can offer high-quality access services to earn more profits. Motivated by the concept of “covert”, targeted advertising is used to promote the sale of bandwidth and ensure that the advertising strategy cannot be detected by competitors who may make counter-offer and by attackers who want to disrupt the services. We derive the best advertising strategy in terms of budget input, with the help of the Vidale-Wolfe model and Hamiltonian function. Furthermore, we propose a novel metric named Meta-Immersion to represent the user's experience feelings. The performance evaluation shows that the MSP can boost its revenue with an optimal targeted advertising strategy, especially compared with that without the advertising.

Non-invasive vibration measurements from the knee offer a convenient and affordable alternative to benchtop or biomechanics lab joint health monitoring systems. Recently, joint acoustic emissions (JAEs) measured from the knee were shown to be an indicator of knee health. However, the origin of JAEs is still not fully understood, which limits its acceptance and use by clinical experts. In this proof-of-concept study, rather than relying on the movements of the knee and corresponding frictional rubbing of internal surfaces to produce vibrations, we propose using an active vibration sensing approach with a known vibration source interrogating the knee. We aim to elucidate the linkage between knee vibration characteristics and structural changes in the joint following injuries. We measured tibial vibration responses of two participants using a laser vibrometer system to quantify the frequency band where the most repeatable tibial vibration measurement can be taken. Subsequently, a custom-designed wearable system measured mid-activity tibial vibration characteristics from four participants (five healthy knees and three knees with prior acute injury) during unloaded knee flexion-extensions. An active sensing knee health score was defined as the ratio of the changes in low- to high-frequency response during flexion-extension. Since changes in the boundary of tibia would alter low-frequency response more than high frequency response, we found that increased knee laxity with acute injuries resulted in an increased active sensing knee health score. Our findings demonstrate the potential of active vibration sensing as an interpretable, computationally inexpensive alternative to JAEs for wearable knee health assessment.
