Achieving Room-Temperature ppb-Level H2S Detection in a Au-SnO2 Sensor with Low Voltage Enhancement Effect

Although semiconductor metal oxide-based sensors are promising for gas sensing, low-power and room temperature operation (24 ± 1 °C) remains desirable for practical applications particularly considering the request of energy saving or net zero emission. In this study, we demonstrate a Au/SnO2-based ultrasensitive H2S gas sensor with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2 ppb, operating at very low voltages (0.05 to 0.5 V) at room temperature. The Au/SnO2-based sensor showed approximately 7 times higher response (the ratio of change in the current to initial current) of ∼270% and 4 times faster recovery (126 s) compared to the pure SnO2-based sensor when exposed to 500 ppb H2S gas concentration at 0.5 V operating voltage at relative humidity (RH) 17.5 ± 2.5%. The enhancement can be attributed to the catalytic characteristics of AuNPs, increasing the number of adsorbed oxygen species on sensing material surfaces. Additionally, AuNPs aid in forming flower-petal-like Au/SnO2 nanostructures, offering a larger surface area and more active sites for H2S sensing. Moreover, at low voltage (2 interface may further enhance the absorption of polar oxygen molecules and hence promote the reaction between H2S and oxygen species. This low-power, ultrasensitive H2S sensor outperforms high-powered alternatives, making it ideal for environmental, food safety, and healthcare applications. © 2024 The Authors. Face recognition is a bio-metric technology that has been widely adopted for security, authentication, and identification. In recent years, face recognition systems have also been used for attendance management in educational institutions and offices. This paper presents a face recognition-based attendance management system that is designed to replace the time-consuming and error-prone manual attendance process. The system comprises four key phases: database creation, face detection, face recognition, and attendance updating. The initial phase involves the creation of a comprehensive database of images of the students in the class. Subsequently, the system employs the HAAR-Cascade classifier for face detection and the Local Binary Pattern Histogram algorithm for face recognition. The system accurately detects and recognizes faces in real time by analyzing the live video stream from the classroom. Finally, at the conclusion of each session, the attendance records are compiled and stored in a CSV file. The presented system has been validated on a dataset of 100 students. The results show that the system can achieve an accuracy of over 90%. The system is also able to handle variations in lighting and facial expressions. The implementation of this face recognition-based attendance management system can enhance operational efficiency, reduce administrative burdens, and ensure more accurate attendance tracking. © 2023 IEEE.

This article proposes a neural network hybrid modeling framework for dynamics learning to promote an interpretable, computationally efficient method of dynamics learning and system identification. First, a low-level model is trained to learn the system dynamics, which utilizes multiple simple neural networks to approximate the local dynamics generated from data-driven partitions. Then, based on the low-level model, a high-level model is trained to abstract the low-level neural hybrid system model into a transition system that allows computational tree logic (CTL) verification to promote model's ability to handle human interaction and verification efficiency. © 2024 by ASME.

This paper presents the development of a secure data platform designed to enhance operational efficiency and to facilitate cross-company collaboration within the manufacturing supply chain. The platform is designed to ease secure information exchange while maintaining the sovereignty of each participant, leveraging standardized security features and advanced technologies such as federated learning. Security measures are based on a comprehensive risk analysis, which methodically identifies, assesses, and mitigates potential threats. Moreover, federated learning models that are not transparent are utilized. This allows data owners to maintain control over sensitive information within the consortium. The described approach markedly enhances both security and operational collaboration across the industry, representing a crucial stride towards more integrated and efficient supply chain management in manufacturing. © 2024 IEEE.

Offsets Reconstruction Method for Clock Skew Measurement Over High-Jitter Communication

Measuring clock skew of devices over a network fully relies on the offsets, the differences between sending and receiving times. Offsets that shape a thick line are the most ideal one as their slope is directly the clock skew sought. When some outliers separate from the thick line due to higher delay jitter, current advanced approaches use the lower bound or the majority of offsets to derive accurate clock skew. However, outliers in offsets that shape parallel dotted lines, reduce the availability of offsets in the lower region, and scatter widely the offsets from their majority zone. These conditions drive the current skew estimation approaches to lose their accuracy. This paper then developed a new method, which reconstructs back the outliers into their origin positions, in order to provide ideal offsets for clock skew measurement. The experimental evaluations have demonstrated that the clock skew accuracy of dotted-lines offsets tampered by outliers was improved from 2.1 to 0.9 ppm by the proposed reconstruction method. For a broader purpose, the reconstruction method has been adjusted to be implemented also on non-dotted-lines offsets. The robustness of the proposed method for this case has also been exhibited by the very ideal reconstructed offsets that shape like a thick line. © The Author(s) 2025.

This paper proposes a composite design of fuzzy adaptive control scheme based on TMD RC structural system and the gain of two-dimensional fuzzy control is controlled by parameters. Monitoring and learning in LMI then produces performance indicators with a weighting matrix as a function of cost. It allows to control the trade-off between the two efficiencies by adjusting the appropriate weighting matrix. The two-dimensional Boost control model is equivalent to the LMI-constrained multi-objective optimization problem under dual performance criteria. By using the proposed intelligent control model, the fuzzy nonlinear criterion is satisfied. Therefore, the data connection can be further extended. Evaluation of controller performance the proposed controller is compared with other control techniques. This ensures good performance of the control routines used for position and trajectory control in the presence of model uncertainties and external influences. Quantitative verification of the effectiveness of monitoring and control. The purpose of this article is to ensure access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services. In the current context of urbanization and transportation expansion, the need for accurate and efficient detection systems for public transportation has become of the utmost importance. The paper presents a novel strategy to establish new standards in transportation detection systems. Using the power of the YOLOv5 deep learning algorithm, the dataset is divided into training, testing, and validation segments to ensure a thorough evaluation. With a training dataset size of 75% and a test-validation split of 25%, our methodology showcases a compelling mean Average Precision (mAP) value of 0.973. Our findings highlight a precision of 0.971, pointing to accurate predictions in approximately 97.1% of cases, and a recall of 0.953, underscoring the model's efficiency in capturing around 95.3% of relevant objects. Such results, particularly the distinguishable taxi class among similar objects, represent significant improvements over previous benchmarks. The model's prowess is evident in its ability to distinguish even in situations involving entities that closely resemble one another, such as taxis and police cars. Our proposed system excels with increased accuracy, precision, and F1 scores compared to a standard study. This paper concludes that with the strategic application of YOLOv5, the future of public transportation detection systems is bright and on the cusp of a new era of efficiency and precision. © 2023 IEEE.

One of the most essential components of a communications system is channel coding, which provides protection for the original source message. Polar codes have gained great importance due to the fact that they reach the channel capacity for the Binary Discrete Memoryless Channel. Both encoding and decoding, for this type of codes, are serial processes, which increases latency. In this research, we propose a fully connected neural network architecture that tackles this problem in decoding thanks to the inherent parallelization of this type of structure. Our experimental results demonstrate that a fully connected neural network reduces decoding delay, although further study is still needed to reach the accuracy of the probabilistic decoding methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Maintaining grid stability amid widespread electric vehicle (EV) adoption is vital for sustainable transportation. Traditional optimization methods and Reinforcement Learning (RL) approaches often struggle with the high dimensionality and dynamic nature of real-time EV charging, leading to sub-optimal solutions. To address these challenges, this study demonstrates that combining Large Language Models (LLMs), for sequence modeling, with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), for relational information extraction, not only outperforms conventional EV smart charging methods, but also paves the way for entirely new research directions and innovative solutions. © 2025, CC BY.

In recent years, swarm intelligence-based metaheuristics are extensively explored for optimizing challenging and stiff nonlinear problems. This research explores the identification of the input nonlinear output error (NOE) model through a swarm intelligence-based metaheuristic called dwarf mongoose optimization algorithm (DMOA). Further, the key term separation method (KTSM) based identification model is presented to address the issue of over-parameterization. The DMOA performance is deeply examined for various generations, population sizes, and signal-to-noise ratios. The comparative analyses of the DMOA with the recent counterpart through observations of non-parametric statistical tests confirmed the effectiveness of the DMOA for NOE identification. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.
