Several recent studies have elucidated why knowledge distillation (KD) improves model performance. However, few have researched the other advantages of KD in addition to its improving model performance. In this study, we have attempted to show that KD enhances the interpretability as well as the accuracy of models. We measured the number of concept detectors identified in network dissection for a quantitative comparison of model interpretability. We attributed the improvement in interpretability to the class-similarity information transferred from the teacher to student models. First, we confirmed the transfer of class-similarity information from the teacher to student model via logit distillation. Then, we analyzed how class-similarity information affects model interpretability in terms of its presence or absence and degree of similarity information. We conducted various quantitative and qualitative experiments and examined the results on different datasets, different KD methods, and according to different measures of interpretability. Our research showed that KD models by large models could be used more reliably in various fields. The code is available at https://***/Rok07/KD_***. © 2023 Proceedings of Machine Learning Research. The main efficiency limiting factors for homogeneous emitter solar cells are resistance loss through metal contact on the front side and recombination loss at the surface. Herein, a selective emitter technology is introduced to solve the above problem, and it is currently commercialized in the mainstream p-PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Contact) solar cell. The selective emitter boosts efficiency by 0.3-0.4% when compared to a homogeneous emitter, and when applied to the n-TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar cell, high efficiency of 26% or higher may be predicted. The most widely utilized selective emitter technologies are laser and etch-back. The One-Step technology, which is suited to the n-TOPCon solar cell process, a laser is suitable for mass manufacturing with high yield. Because selective emitters increase electrical characteristics, which impact cell efficiency, it is required to study and create a technology that is optimal for the n-TOPCon manufacturing process. © 2022 Korean Institute of electrical Engineers. Conventional boost converters operating with hard-switching result in low conversion efficiency and increased electromagnetic interference emissions. In this paper, a cost-efficient passive snubber is proposed with a few additional components: two diodes, one capacitor, and one inductor. Moreover, because these snubber components are not located on the main power processing path, they only require low ratings, resulting in improved cost-effectiveness.

AC-DC converters almost always require common-mode (CM) filters to restrict conducting their electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions to the power grid and ensure compliance with EMI certification requirements. These CM filters, which are based on the well-known LC lowpass filter, are typically bulky and expensive. Hence, a method for passive $\mathbf{C M}$ current cancellation using a nonlinear model is proposed herein. This method is entirely composed of passive components and offers advantages in terms of cost and system reliability. Compared to conventional passive LC filters, the number of magnetic components remains unchanged. This study proposes the derivation of a nonlinear model to estimate the filter performance using measured data from an actual CM choke; however, the proposed method does not require the mathematical model of a CM choke.

Transparent conductive oxides exhibit attractive optical nonlinearity with ultrafast response and giant refractive index change near the epsilon-near-zero(ENZ) wavelength, originating from the intraband dynamics of conduction electrons. The optical nonlinearity of ENZ materials has been explained by using the overall-effective-mass and the overall-scattering-time of electrons in the extended Drude model. However, their response to optical excitation is yet the last building block to complete the theory. In this paper, the concept of thermal energy is theoretically proposed to account for the total energy of conduction electrons exceeding their thermal equilibrium value. The time-varying thermal energy is adopted to describe the transient optical response of indium-tin-oxide(ITO), a typical ENZ material. A spectrally-resolved femtosecond pump-probe experiment was conducted to verify our theory. By correlating the thermal energy with the pumping density, both the giant change and the transient response of the permittivity of ITO can be predicted. The results in this work provide a new methodology to describe the transient permittivities of ENZ materials, which will benefit the design of ENZ-based nonlinear photonic devices.

Lilies are popular in the global flower market, but consumers often lack information about specific varieties. To address this issue, this paper proposes a computer recognition platform based on the Vision Transformer (ViT) architecture. The proposed platform uses an improved vision transformer (ViT) architecture to classify different types of lilies, allowing consumers to access information and names of various Lilium species. The experimental results show that the proposed lily classification model achieved a 96.4% accuracy rate in classifying six lily species. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper explores the application of system identification to a lubrication system found in heavy-duty diesel engines. These engines are equipped with a variable oil pump and a cooling piston jet. The objective is to establish a dynamic model that accurately captures the relationship between the duty cycle of the valves and the resulting pressure values under normal road operating conditions to be used as a digital twin of the system. Additionally, the study aims to determine whether a simple recursive model can sufficiently describe the system with enough precision. Different linear and nonlinear models were evaluated and validated to identify the best fit for the system. Ultimately, the system was described using a Hammerstein-Wiener model, resulting in an 83.86% Normalized Root Mean Squared Error (NRMSE) for main gallery pressure and 82.69% for piston cooling jet gallery pressure.

The cyber-physical production system (CPPS) was developed for the interconnection between operational technology (OT) and information and communication technology (ICT) among the machines and decentralized production control. However, OT and ICT are now getting more complex in the modern industry. To enhance industrial management and production process, the CPPS based on the 5G architecture under production environments can provide a more comprehensive solution in the context of Industry 4.0. For this purpose, a 5G CPPS model to improve the interoperability of CPPS in ICT and OT is proposed to build a virtualized Industry 4.0 asset management shell system. First, real-time task artifacts and 5G communication modules are bound in a certain form of virtualization. Second, task artifacts are released to the production line in a real-time scheduling. Third, an order is placed on a production line and split into multiple tasks for production process. Single-machine single-workpiece and multi-machine and multi-workpiece processing cases are used for testing in the production line. Experimental results show that the proposed 5G CPPS can efficiently achieve multi-machine work piece processing. © 2022, The Author(s).

Metasurfaces offer remarkable control over different characteristics of the electromagnetic waves. They can be used to modify the phase, amplitude, polarization, and direction of reflection associated with an incoming incident field. This behavior can be mathematically represented using the generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs) (K. Achouri and C. Caloz, Electromagnetic Metasurfaces: Theory and Applications, Wiley, 2021). GSTCs connect the electromagnetic fields on the two sides of the sheet using equivalent bianisotropic electric and magnetic susceptibility tensors. These tensors account for the cumulative electric and magnetic polarization density effect of the unit-cell configurations on the electromagnetic fields.
