This paper proposes a new high-speed reclosing operation method to improve the stability in power system with the fault current limiter. From an angular velocity, a field system voltage and a phase of the generator, the proposed operation method calculates the optimum reclosing time domain. The fault current limiter is used the reactance type or the resistive type. The examination was carried out using the Inst. of electrical Engineers of Japan one-machine infinite bus system model in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The Impact Ver2.3 was used in the computer simulation.

This paper addresses methodic implementation of a credible ISHM capability for elements of Constellation Systems. ISHM capability must be implemented by a combination of on-board and ground elements, each contributing to determining the health of systems in the most effective manner. Implementation of ISHM capability must evolve continuously to reach higher and higher levels of functional capability. The implication is that a sustainable approach must be defined in order to accomplish a believable capability. This paper describes the methodology, the elements, and the technology to implement ISHM capability throughout the life cycle of elements of Constellation Systems, reaching beyond individual elements that might have a limited life while the constellation moves on.

This article describes two demonstrations at the NTT Group Communication EXPO held at the Tokyo International Forum in December 2005. These showed visitors two of our trials on the feasibility of remotely operating instruments in Chile from Japan: an optical telescope and rock hammers in an underground copper mine. These applications use a relatively high bandwidth of around 100 Mbit/s and require short delay times for smooth interactive operation. To satisfy these requirements we used NTT's experimental research network GEMnet2 in collaboration with partner R&E (research and education) networks in North and South America. The demonstrations showed that Internet-based networks can handle interactive network applications with sufficient quality between two sites separated by almost the maximum possible distance on the Earth as long as the bandwidth and the route are carefully managed.

This paper describes the objectives, strategies, assessment and evaluation, and special program features of the Rochester Institute of technology's (RIT) Multi-department engineering and engineeringtechnology (MEET) Scholars program. This program began in December, 2004 and is designed to recruit, retain and graduate additional transfer students in our selected engineering and engineeringtechnology degree programs. The MEET Scholars program represents a collaborative effort of five academic departments across two colleges, and the Enrollment Management and Career Services Division at RIT. All of the programs in the five participating departments are ABET-accredited, and require students to obtain one year of industry co-op experience before graduation. The MEET Scholars program builds upon our excellent infrastructure for mentoring students, and involves our mandatory cooperative education program - both of which help students address their financial needs and facilitate placement in the high technology workforce. RIT has an exceptional record in engineering student placement in industry after graduation and an excellent record for both retaining and graduating upper-division transfer students.

In Fall 2000, the Clark School of engineering at the University of Maryland, in cooperation with the Smith School of Business, created a unique residential entrepreneurship educational model - the Hinman Campus Entrepreneurship Opportunities (CEOs) program. The program is based on an input/output model in which the input is undergraduate students with a strong entrepreneurial drive;the system is an incubator-like entrepreneurial community environment and a variety of resources including education, networking, teaming and mentoring;and the output is students with substantial entrepreneurial knowledge and experience in operating real companies.
