In this work, a novel millimeter-wave circularly polarized patch antenna is presented. The antenna offers wide bandwidth, high gain, compact size, simple geometry, low profile and wide axial ratio. The proposed antenna is designed on the top side of Rogers RT/duroid 6002 with thickness of 0.79mm. The analysis and numerical simulation of the proposed antenna is performed using the full-wave electromagnetic simulator, HFSS. © 2022 IEEE.

Intelligent Web Spam Detection in the Consumer Internet of Things

The Consumer Internet of Things (CIoT) integrates the advantage of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to provide convenience in consumers’ daily lives. With the rapid development of the CIoT, data collected from consumer smart devices has increased exponentially. In the CIoT, web pages, as internet information carriers, offer spammers opportunities to conduct security attacks, which could harm the CIoT systems. Inspired by this challenge, this paper introduces an intelligent feature extraction method, page2vec, and a new classification algorithm, RFiRF, to detect web spam in the CIoT. page2vec is based on a score propagation model, which calculates each page’s goodness and badness scores through the links of a web graph. It is observed that different scoring functions can produce different web page features. Based on this observation, 20 to 30 scoring functions are designed and incorporated into page2vec. This way, page2vec can automatically extract web page features from a web graph. Unfortunately, page2vec also brings a high dimensionality problem when constructing binary classifiers for spam detection. To address this problem, a new classification algorithm, called Random Forest in Random Forest (RFiRF), is proposed. RFiRF replaces a random forest’s meta-classifier (decision tree) with a random forest. It divides the sparse data space into dense sub-spaces by randomly sampling training instances and features. Experiments on two benchmark datasets show that 1) page2vec features are much more predictive than the raw link-based and node2vec features, and 2) RFiRF outperforms some classification algorithms in most cases when facing the high dimensionality problem. In this paper, we present an immersive virtual farm simulation developed to provide realistic on-farm experiences to the public. Users could visit the virtual farm, walk through various sites where dairy cows are raised, and learn how the dairy products are produced through the virtual experience. public users' responses about the virtual experience were collected in various measures, e.g., user experience and learning efficacy, via showcases at local libraries. We present preliminary results regarding the potential of the simulation as an effective agricultural education, and discuss our future plans.

The pervasive deployment of surveillance cameras produces a massive volume of data, requiring nuanced interpretation. This study thoroughly examines data representation and visualization techniques tailored for AI surveillance data within current infrastructures. It delves into essential data metrics, methods for situational awareness, and various visualization techniques, highlighting their potential to enhance safety and guide urban development. This study is built upon real-world research conducted in a community college environment, utilizing eight cameras over eight days. This study presents tools like the Occupancy Indicator, Statistical Anomaly Detection, Bird's Eye View, and Heatmaps to elucidate pedestrian behaviors, surveillance, and public safety. Given the intricate data from smart video surveillance, such as bounding boxes and segmented images, we aim to convert these computer vision results into intuitive visualizations and actionable insights for stakeholders, including law enforcement, urban planners, and social scientists. The results emphasize the crucial impact of visualizing AI surveillance data on emergency handling, public health protocols, crowd control, resource distribution, predictive modeling, city planning, and informed decision-making. As a popular topic, indoor positioning has gradually drawn the attention of both academia and business. Numerous location based services including healthcare, repository tracking, and security call for accurate estimation. An accurate estimation might be achieved by using additional location-sensing equipment, but this is not generally done because it would result in expensive brand specialization. A flexible and affordable location determination technique that exploits the already-existing WLAN infrastructure in indoor spaces has been designed without incurring additional costs, among all suggestions in the literature that include hardware and highly complex *** positioning strategy is becoming more popular. Soon in actual surroundings, WLAN will be able to be employed as part of an indoor positioning system. In comparison to similar systems, it is a good option in terms of accuracy, precision, and cost. It has also become the most user-friendly way, particularly with the widespread use of smartphones and tablet computers. In the literature, many machine learning algorithms such as cluster-filtered KNN and fuzzy c means algorithms have been proposed for the WiFi router signal coverage position prediction system but the disadvantage of these approaches is that it will consume much pre-processing time for reference points data and also these approaches found to be less accurate. In the proposed study, adaptive KNN-based machine learning model has been proposed for the WiFi signal coverage prediction system. The proposed method adjusts the value of K for each position by examining the relationship between the K value and the intensity of the received WiFi signal. This technique improves positioning accuracy by more than 30% when compared to the existing approach. The experimental results are conducted by applying various machine learning algorithms. This paper presents a novel method for human gait analysis in cluttered in-home environments using mm-wave radar systems, leveraging novel signal processing and unsupervised machine learning to extract gait parameters accurately amidst obstacles, multipath, and ghosts. Our approach accurately identifies gait parameters such as stride length and walking speed while walking on a curvy path, outperforming traditional techniques. The findings highlight the potential of mm-wave radar for non-invasive, privacy-preserving gait monitoring, with significant implications for healthcare, elderly care, and ambient assisted living. This work advances human motion analysis technology and opens new avenues for in-home monitoring applications.

The Internet, a key participant (world wide web) in worldwide information exchange and media sharing, has experienced cumulative upgrades, developments, and given up consequent product IOT, making technology affordable and practical for all uses. Research development includes smart sensors, a communication channel and protocols for exchanging data, and peripherals like an Arduino, a Texas Instruments MSP430G2553, a Weather-proof Tx. Rx. Kit (for exchanging data), a Data Receptor and Decoder Shield for Lab View Kit (for exchanging data), an addressing and de-addressing data module, a communication shield, etc. It is now possible to communicate from a desktop computer or an Android smartphone to a portable device that has an embedded device, such as a microcontroller, a microprocessor, or a sensor. In other words, IOT combines always-on networking, always-on computation, and always-on intelligence. The Internet of Things facilitates communication between the central hub (fitted with a Lab-View interface) and the distributed modules (found in places like parks, subways, and highways) that control the lights. The Internet of Things is also useful for keeping the overall cost of setup and maintenance within reasonable economic bounds. The planned development takes into account IoT on two main scales: city-wide automation (also known as smart city) and home-level automation (also known as covering up). © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we study the problem of multi-reward reinforcement learning to jointly optimize for multiple text qualities for natural language generation. We focus on the task of counselor reflection generation, where we optimize the generators to simultaneously improve the fluency, coherence, and reflection quality of generated counselor responses. We introduce two novel bandit methods, DynaOpt and C-DynaOpt, which rely on the broad strategy of combining rewards into a single value and optimizing them simultaneously. Specifically, we employ non-contextual and contextual multi-arm bandits to dynamically adjust multiple reward weights during training. Through automatic and manual evaluations, we show that our proposed techniques, DynaOpt and C-DynaOpt, outperform existing naive and bandit baselines, demonstrating their potential for enhancing language models. © 2024, CC BY.

The efficient supply of goods and transport of materials are important factors for sustainability in any urban environment where traffic and environmental issues also need to be addressed. In this paper we developed a centrally coordinated approach for routing freight in urban environments where traffic loads are unbalanced in time and space in an effort to improve mobility and reduce cost. We assume that freight is moved by trucks using the road network and truck fleets consist of a mix of diesel and electric trucks. We formulated the routing problem as an optimization problem with several constraints and we use a co-simulation load balancing approach to generate routes for trucks that reduce the overall cost. We use a simulation test of a road network in the Los Angeles/Long Beach Metropolitan areas that includes two major ports to demonstrate the results.

According to European regulation 2023/1804/EU, all member states shall ensure the availability of cold ironing (CI) in large ports for at least 90% of the total number of port calls of seagoing ships above 5,000 gross tonnes, by the end of 2029. This is a measure expected to improve air quality, especially in the vicinity of the port’s urban environment. Preliminary studies show that there are financial viability issues related to CI installations, under the current electricity pricing policies and the high investment cost for CI infrastructure. In this paper, the financial viability of the penetration of photovoltaic (PV) units optimized from spatial and power produced point of view is investigated. The proposed method is applied to various ship types, indicatively for the Thessaloniki Port, taking into consideration the connection with the Medium Voltage (MV) electricity distribution grid, as well as the construction, operation, and maintenance costs, under modified economic criterion of benefit cost ratio (BCR). © 2024, The Authors.
