The objective of this work is to point out the advantages offered by the temperature dependent dielectric spectroscopy in frequency domain, as a possible diagnostic tool for power transformer lifetime prediction. Characterization of the insulating oil has been carried out for a wide selection of transformers and their gas concentrations were monitored. The work correlates gas chromatography data to the dielectrometry ones.

Life is priceless, so pre-hospital evaluation and management is important in emergency medical service. To enhance the quality of emergency medical service, the mobile hospital emergency medical system (MHMES) is designed to provide for e-prepared services. This system could improve the communication among the ambulance, the dispatch and mission control center and the emergency department of the hospital via a wireless network, and provide comprehensive service during pre-hospital resuscitation and transportation of the patients. The MHMES consists of three sub-systems located in three sites respectively, dispatch and mission control center, emergency department of hospital and ambulance. It includes electrical map to track the ambulances and transfer patients situation and histories with the hospital to follow the symptom. Therefore, this system would be able to reduce the mortality during transportation and enhance the safety and quality of emergency medical service. It structures an emergency informatics system of National Taiwan University Hospital to provide a application of wireless network in a medical emergency service network.

In this paper, the branched-bus topology is evaluated as representative of indoor PLC channels' multipath fading properties. The path amplitude and arrival-time distributions are investigated, as well as ranging of the RMS-delay-spread. Specific analogy between the simplified topology and real indoor power-line network structures is hereupon introduced. The evaluation is performed via comparative simulation between channel routes of a real in-house network and the corresponding branched-bus configurations. A novel computational simulation tool is to this effect employed. Qualitative suitability of the examined topology is indeed verified, and quantitative deductions are extracted as well.

This paper is concerned with the correlation of the oil dielectric strength and the previous history of a number of distribution transformers of the P. P. C. (public Power Corporation) from the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Our samples come from distribution transformers from the Xanthi area and from the broader region of Macedonia and Thrace, Northern Greece. In the Xanthi area there are 1631 distribution transformers. In the broader region of Macedonia and Thrace 39963 distribution transformers are in the network. Our work is a continuation of the work reported in CIRED 2001. Our effort is concentrated on the establishment of a statistical model which would relate the dielectric strength with the electric stresses to which a distribution transformer is subjected as well as its previous history. It is to be noted that the measurements of the dielectric strength were carried out with the aid of a Foster test cell according to the BS 148/78 standard.

A simple and very high speed approach for waveform generation is introduced. The VCO is very compact and versatile. It generates triangle and square waveforms. The VCO has a very wide range of oscillating frequencies (from fractions of Hz to 100MHz in 0.5μm CMOS technology). The amplitude of the oscillations can be very precisely controlled. Simulation results are shown that verify the characteristics of the proposed VCO. © 2005 IEEE.

Transmission systems in the United States and around the world have become more difficult to plan under deregulation. Uncertainties in generation type, location, and pricing coupled with market mechanisms that encourage transfers not designed for in the legacy transmission system have made the transmission planner's life difficult. This paper describes the planning process under regulation, some of the issues encountered during the present transition to a deregulated industry, and some of the open questions that need to be addressed in the United States. © 2005 IEEE.

A new very compact and highly linear CMOS OTA, with very wide gain tuning range, is presented. It uses a fixed gain linear V-I converter input stage and electronically programmable current mirrors working in triode which are very compact and continuously adjustable. Programmability is achieved by tuning VDS of the mirroring transistors. The OTA input range and bandwidth is approximately independent of gain adjustment. Simulation results in 0.5/spl mu/m CMOS technology verify the characteristics of the proposed OTA with distortion less than 0.5% over the entire tuning range.

The Tulane School of public Health and Tropical Medicine, with a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), established the Louisiana ARBONET Web site in the year 2001. The site provides a system for entering various types of surveillance data by the mosquito abatement districts (MADs), local parish health units, and the Louisiana State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The site also provides an online mapping function for compiling sample locations and displaying surveillance data in both visual and report formats. The Website has helped to integrate several agencies' efforts and various data sources and is a dynamic tool that is used to combat the threat of mosquito-borne emerging infectious diseases.
