Past research has suggested that social engineering poses the most significant security risk. Recent studies have suggested that social networking sites (SNSs) are the most common source of social engineering attacks. The risk of social engineering attacks in SNSs is associated with the difficulty of making accurate judgments regarding source credibility in the virtual environment of SNSs. In this paper, we quantitatively investigate source credibility dimensions in terms of social engineering on Facebook, as well as the source characteristics that influence Facebook users to judge an attacker as credible, therefore making them susceptible to victimization. Moreover, in order to predict users' susceptibility to social engineering victimization based on their demographics, we investigate the effectiveness of source characteristics on different demographic groups by measuring the consent intentions and behavior responses of users to social engineering requests using a role-play experiment.

Use of simulators to explore specialty recommendation for a palpable breast mass

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate recommendation patterns of different specialties for the work-up of a palpable breast mass using simulated scenarios and clinical breast examination models. Methods Study participants were a convenience sample of physicians (n = 318) attending annual surgical, family practice, and obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) conferences. Two different silicone-based breast models (superficial mass vs chest wall mass) were used to test clinical breast examination skills and recommendation patterns (imaging, tissue sampling, and follow-up). Results Participants were more likely to recommend mammography (P <.001) and core biopsy (P <.0001) and less likely to recommend needle aspiration (P <.043) and 1-month follow-up (P <.001) for the chest wall mass compared with the superficial mass. Family practitioners were less likely to recommend ultrasound (P <.001) and obstetrics and gynecologists were less likely to recommend mammogram (P <.006) across models. Surgeons were more likely to recommend core biopsy and less likely to recommend needle aspiration across models (P <.001). Conclusions Recommendation patterns differed across the 2 models in line with existing practice guidelines. Additionally, differences in practice patterns between primary care and specialty providers may represent varying clinician capabilities, healthcare resources, and individual preferences. Our work shows that simulation may be used to track adherence to practice guidelines for breast masses. © 2015 Elsevier *** rights reserved.

In this paper, a novel controller based on the combination of differential flatness property and model predictive technology for the generator excitation system is proposed. Such controller will maintain the terminal voltage of the generator within physical limits by better utilizing the existing excitation control. This eliminates the need for adding new fast storage. One preliminary real-world system is used to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller, and the results are compared with the performance of earlier proposed high-gain feedback linearizing excitation controller.

Language features may reflect underlying cognitive and emotional processes following a traumatic event that portend clinical outcomes. The authors sought to determine whether language features from usual smartphone use were markers associated with concurrent posttraumatic symptoms and worsening or improving posttraumatic symptoms over time following a traumatic exposure. This investigation was a secondary analysis of the Advancing Understanding of RecOvery afteR traumA study, a longitudinal study of traumatic outcomes among survivors recruited from 33 emergency departments across the United States. Adverse posttraumatic sequelae were assessed over the six months following the initial traumatic exposure. Language features were extracted from usual smartphone use in a specialized app. Bivariate linear mixed models were used to identify and validate language features that are markers associated with posttraumatic symptoms. Participants were 1744 trauma survivors, with a mean age of 39 [SD = 13] years old, and 56% were female. Fourteen language features were associated with severity level of posttraumatic symptoms at specific timepoints (cross-sectional markers) and five features were associated with change in severity level of posttraumatic symptoms (longitudinal markers). References to the body and health or illness were predictive of worsening pain, somatic, and thinking/concentration/fatigue symptom severity over time. An increase in references to others was associated with improvement in somatic symptom severity over time and increases in expressions of causation or cognitive processes were associated with improvement in pain symptom severity over time. Language features derived from usual smartphone use can convey important information about health, functioning, and recovery following a traumatic event. Clinicians might utilize such information to determine who may experience a high symptom burden or risk of worsening posttraumatic symptoms.

Recent developments in social media and cloud storage lead to an exponential growth in the amount of multimedia data, which increases the complexity of managing, storing, indexing, and retrieving information from such big data. Many current content-based concept detection approaches lag from successfully bridging the semantic gap. To solve this problem, a multi-stage random forest framework is proposed to generate predictor variables based on multivariate regressions using variable importance (VIMP). By fine tuning the forests and significantly reducing the predictor variables, the concept detection scores are evaluated when the concept of interest is rare and imbalanced, i.e., having little collaboration with other high level concepts. Using classical multivariate statistics, estimating the value of one coordinate using other coordinates standardizes the covariates and it depends upon the variance of the correlations instead of the mean. Thus, conditional dependence on the data being normally distributed is eliminated. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework outperforms those approaches in the comparison in terms of the Mean Average Precision (MAP) values.

To offer the higher reliability services, switching devices, as one of technologies for enhancing reliability, will be installed in the systems. Background: Digital maps are instrumental in conveying information about environmental hazards geographically. For laypersons, computer-based maps can serve as tools to promote environmental health literacy about invisible traffic-related air pollution and ultrafine particles. Concentrations of these pollutants are higher near major roadways and increasingly linked to adverse health effects. Interactive computer maps provide visualizations that can allow users to build mental models of the spatial distribution of ultrafine particles in a community and learn about the risk of exposure in a geographic context. Objective: The objective of this work was to develop a new software tool appropriate for educating members of the Boston Chinatown community (Boston, MA, USA) about the nature and potential health risks of traffic-related air pollution. The tool, the Interactive Map of Chinatown Traffic Pollution (“Air Pollution Map” hereafter), is a prototype that can be adapted for the purpose of educating community members across a range of socioeconomic contexts. Methods: We built the educational visualization tool on the open source Weave software platform. We designed the tool as the centerpiece of a multimodal and intergenerational educational intervention about the health risk of traffic-related air pollution. We used a previously published fine resolution (20 m) hourly land-use regression model of ultrafine particles as the algorithm for predicting pollution levels and applied it to one neighborhood, Boston Chinatown. In designing the map, we consulted community experts to help customize the user interface to communication styles prevalent in the target community. Results: The product is a map that displays ultrafine particulate concentrations averaged across census blocks using a color gradation from white to dark red. In recent years, Smart Grid was introduced to achieve an environmentally-friendly, adequate, secure and fossil fuel-independent power system. The large scale smart grid studies require accurate state estimation to obtain an acceptable adequacy level. There exist some challenges regarding anomalous power flow studies which motivate grid operators to utilize robust and accurate estimation methods. Therefore, power system state estimators play a pivotal role in real-time grid management. In this paper, a sequential linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimator is utilized to solve the DC power flow problem. First, we introduce the classic linear estimator model which assumes that to-be-estimated parameter values are unknown but deterministic. The LMMSE estimator will be discussed which treats the to-be-estimated parameter as a random variable with a known prior probability density function (pdf). We evaluate the accuracy of the LMMSE estimator by comparing it with maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). Finally, the effect of covariance matrix topology will be studied by defining three scenarios with different noise covariance matrices.

Technologies collecting location-based data in the real world have advantages over traditional methods for landscape perception research. The possibility to relate geo-referenced responses of inhabitants to the physical and social data in expert GIS databases can lead to new insights into the difference between laymen and expert opinions and may result in adjustments of policy forming. To date, the use of Social Sensing in Landscape perception and valuing is limited. This research presents the set of requirements for a mobile application for landscape and urban planning, discusses some of the main challenges, and concludes that a number of evaluated existing mobile applications just partly meet those requirements.
