Machine Learning (ML) is being successfully applied to ship engine management with proven economic and environmental benefits by engine performance optimization, timely fault detection and appropriate service planning. However, the data preparation for usage in ML algorithms provides several advantages including faster training and improved performance of the algorithm, improved visualization of the dataset, noise reduction, dataset simplification, avoidance of the curse of dimensionality and improved resource utilization. In this paper, two key techniques of the ML algorithms, that can be applied for data preparation and organization of ship engine data are studied, namely the dimensionality reduction and the data clustering. Dimensionality reduction involves the reduce of the number of input variables or features in a dataset, by retaining as much valuable information as possible. On the other hand, clustering ML techniques help to uncover insights and reduce data complexity through the organization of the data into clusters. The integration of wireless controllers in robot education has emerged as a pivotal area to enhance the learning experience and practical understanding of robotics concepts. This paper presents the implementation of a wireless controller for educational purposes using MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) on the Dobot Magician Lite robotic platform. MQTT, a lightweight messaging protocol, facilitates efficient communication between the controller and the robot, enabling seamless interaction and control over the robot's movements and functionalities. The implementation focuses on providing a user-friendly interface and intuitive controls, allowing students and educators to easily operate the robot while exploring various educational scenarios. Leveraging MQTT's flexibility, the system offers real-time control and monitoring capabilities, fostering interactive learning experiences in robotics education. The proposed wireless controller demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of employing MQTT in robot education, paving the way for enhanced learning opportunities and practical applications in the field of robotics. The examination of MQTT performance across various bandwidths provides important insights into our system's abilities. At 8 Mbps, our system achieved its highest transaction speed, averaging 1.61 transactions per second with a quick average transaction time of 0.62 seconds. Transaction speeds decreased as bandwidth decreased, with 1 Mbps showing the slowest average TPS of 1.24. Importantly, data retention stayed at 100% for all bandwidths, demonstrating consistent reliability. © 2024 IEEE.

The current utilization of e-learning has not been able to increase participation and learning experience and motivate students to achieve educational goals. This research focuses on developing gamification-based learning media in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) subjects to increase student learning motivation, determine the feasibility level of learning media, and determine the increase in student learning motivation. The method of the research is design thinking It is used to identify and better understand users in the use of applications, find problems faced by users, and can explore new ideas in the creation of appropriate application features in accordance with user needs. The results of expert media validation from the teacher, lecturer, and programmer amounted to 89.78% in the good category, for the material validation results of 91.33% in the very good category. Media use was implemented by 23 students of class XI RPL SMKN 12 Malang. The user trial results showed a percentage of 83.48% with good criteria. The student learning motivation test results showed a percentage of 81.26% with very high criteria. This shows the effect of gamification implementation in fostering student learning motivation. Gamification-based media has been tested for feasibility by media experts, material experts, and students. Therefore, the media is feasible and can be used as a learning support media in object-oriented programming subjects in Vocational High School. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, the protection of so-called "soft targets", has become an increasingly important and challenging issue. The complexity and seriousness of this security threat have been growing exponentially, particularly with the advent of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), and 3D printing, especially in the context of large-scale, popular, and diverse public spaces. In this paper, a novel Digital Twin-as-a-Security-Service (DTaaSS) architecture is introduced for holistically and significantly enhancing the protection of public spaces (e.g. metro stations, leisure sites, urban squares, etc.). The proposed framework combines a Digital Twin (DT) conceptualization with additional cutting-edge technologies, including Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, Big Data analytics and AI. In particular, DTaaSS comprises a holistic, real-time, large-scale, comprehensive and data-driven security solution for the efficient/robust protection of public spaces, supporting: a) data collection and analytics, b) area monitoring/control and proactive threat detection, c) incident/attack prediction, and d) quantitative and data-driven vulnerability assessment. Overall, the designed architecture exhibits increased potential in handling complex, hybrid and combined threats over large, critical and popular soft-targets. The applicability and robustness of DTaaSS is discussed in detail against representative and diverse real-world application scenarios, including complex attacks to: a) a metro station, b) a leisure site, and c) a cathedral square. © 2024 IEEE.

Digital technologies are becoming increasingly complex and integrated, leading to significant transformations in society and the economy. The article aims to explore and summarize the new opportunities and potential risks of the widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) in all aspects of life, to define the new skills and necessary knowledge of digital entrepreneurs and to highlight the need for transformation in modern education. Recognizing that the relationship between technology and business is two-way and becoming stronger, revealing that well-prepared employees are a guarantee of success and prosperity of companies in various fields, we try to focus on the main groups of qualities, skills and basic knowledge of students in the age of artificial intelligence. The development of the Internet, expansion of connectivity through social networks, the advent of AI, 3D printing, and immersive technologies like Augmented Reality, and Virtual Reality, require new knowledge and skills, leading to new challenges in education. Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) are envisioned to be an integral part of future wireless networks, especially when operating at the millimeter-wave (mm-wave) and terahertz (THz) frequency bands. However, establishing wireless connections at these high frequencies is quite challenging, mainly due to the penetrating path loss that prevents reliable communication and sensing. Another emerging technology for next-generation wireless systems is reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), which refers to hardware-efficient planar structures capable of modifying harsh propagation environments. In this article, we provide a tutorial-style overview of the applications and benefits of RISs for sensing functionalities in general, and for ISAC systems in particular. We highlight the potential advantages when fusing these two emerging technologies, and identify for the first time that 1) joint sensing and communications (S&C) designs are most beneficial when the channels referring to these operations are coupled, and that 2) RISs offer the means for controlling this beneficial coupling. The usefulness of RIS-aided ISAC goes beyond the obvious individual gains of each of these technologies in both performance and power efficiency. We also discuss the main signal processing challenges and future research directions that arise from the fusion of these two emerging technologies. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

This paper focuses on implementing the unified power flow controller (UPFC) in the optimal power flow approach, a critical aspect of power and control system operations. Optimal power flow minimizes operating costs and maintains safety margins for control variables, making it an indispensable tool for energy management. The flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) is a fundamental component of this approach, with the UPFC playing a crucial role. This versatile device provides various types of energy system compensation, enabling the independent control of reactive and active electrical power in transmission lines and bus voltages simultaneously. Previous studies have explored a wide range of engineering applications for UPFC using diverse techniques. This paper reviews these applications, specifically examining how UPFC can increase power system flexibility and controllability. Additionally, this paper explores utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in the placement of UPFC in power systems. By incorporating AI techniques such as machine learning and optimization algorithms, power system operators can optimize the placement of UPFC to achieve optimal energy management. This approach enhances the efficiency and reliability of energy systems, resulting in significant cost savings and improved power system performance. © 2023 IEEE.

A multi-mass system is a mechanical system that consists of several masses such as a motor, load, and gear that are connected by a flexible shaft. The mechanical fluctuations in drives with flexible coupling between the motor and the driven device can no longer be ignored, as they could in the past when requirements for speed control dynamics were low. These prerequisites pertain to the regulation of the rotational speed and position of the servo drive and are quantified by the magnitude of speed step response time and speed fault elimination time caused by the step change of load torque, which, in modern drives, can be measured. In this study, the dynamical behavior of a two-mass resonant system with a three-term controller for control of torque and speed is investigated using eigenvalues analysis. The proposed control strategy aims to eliminate the rotational fluctuations of the motor shaft, dampen the load torque disturbance impact, provide a quick response to changes in the base speed while avoiding increases in the load speed, and be resilient to instability. Finally, numerical outcomes demonstrate the effect of the presented controller application on improving the dynamic demeanor of the two-mass test system. Based on the outcomes, the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is highly dependent on system parameters. Due to the inherent parameter uncertainty in the multi-mass system, the use of parameter estimators based on artificial neural networks (ANNs) is suggested for future work. © 2023 IEEE.

Decarbonization of energy generation is required to address the urgent need to combat climate change and meet the Paris Agreement targets. Photovoltaic Systems (PVS) are a major contributor to this solution, and they are expected to grow significantly faster than any other renewable-energy technology in the coming years due to their appealing features. This paper discusses the development of a two-way communication protocol between two transceivers and a custom-designed communication board installed on each PV array. With this configuration, it is possible to transmit the measurements of each PV cell in the array to a data recording and monitoring service. Additionally, the application can customize the operation of the strings that make up the array, by broadcasting special commands to them. A prototype experimental setup was constructed in order to test the communication between the PV array communication board and the uplink/downlink transceivers. The experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed communication protocol between the Electronics Interface System (EIS) and the Smart PV array since the communication protocol meets the specification for transmitting the information from 1000 smart PV cells within one minute, as well as the strict timing requirements by the protocol for transmitting the parameters to the PV strings. © 2022 ACM.
