A set of fundamental cognitive processes of the brain is formally described in this paper. The cognitive processes defined at the meta cognitive level of the layered reference mode of the brain (LRMB) encompass those of object identification, concept establishment, categorization, comparison, qualification, quantification, selection, and search . Real-time process algebra (RTPA) is adopted as the denotational mathematical means for rigorous modeling and describing the meta cognitive processes. The mathematical model of each meta process is created and modeled in RTPA. All cognitive models and processes are explained on the basis of the object- attribute-relation (OAR) model for internal information and knowledge representation and manipulation.

In this paper, a novel online technique for estimating the parameters of a DC/DC Buck converter through a continuous time model is proposed. Standard least mean squares algorithm is applied among other formulations, taking into account only the non conduction state during a single switching cycle. The problem of derivative calculation of the needed voltage and current signals is solved by polynomial interpolation.

In this paper, simplified regression models useful for parameter extraction are obtained from the hybrid models of Buck and Boost DC/DC converters. These models are used in the ESR estimation of output filter capacitors present in the same circuits for diagnostic purposes. Advantages obtained through the simplified models are outlined regarding the original complete regression models obtained from the respective hybrid models. The simplified and the original parameter estimation methods are both applied and compared between them regarding accuracy, data processing time and reliability of the implemented algorithms. Results obtained from simulations and experimental results are presented.

In this paper we give a theoretical model for determining the synchronization frequency that minimizes the parallel execution time of loops with uniform dependencies dynamically scheduled on heterogeneous systems. Using this model we determine the synchronization frequency that minimizes the estimated parallel time. The accuracy of our method is validated through experiments on a heterogeneous cluster. The results show that the synchronization frequency minimizing the parallel time determined by our method, is very close to the synchronization frequency found experimentally.

In this paper, a novel online technique used for estimating the parameters of non-isolated buck, boost and buck-boost DC/DC converters is presented. Continuous time models of each converter are used in the estimation procedure, where the derivative calculation problem of needed signals is solved by polynomial interpolation. Least mean squares algorithm is then applied together with other calculations. The knowledge of these parameters may be used in the fault diagnosis of such converters. Results obtained from simulations are presented, followed by experimental results in which the inductance, capacitance, load resistor and ESR of the capacitor are estimated, in order to validate the proposed technique.

The aim of this paper is to present a fault simulation technique that could help engineers to study the consequences of faults in the output filter of a switch mode power supply. To do so, in this paper, it is presented two techniques: a new experimental off-line technique based in the DFT algorithmic, which can determine the equivalent circuit of capacitors at the operating frequency of the converter, and a simulation technique based in Laplace transform, which could predict the behavior of the converter. Simulation and experimental results will be presented in order to prove the applicability of both techniques.

This paper concerns the problem of on-line (real-time) computation of solutions to the optimal switching time problem in hybrid systems. The systems under consideration are autonomous, and the performance measure to be optimized has the form of a cost functional defined on the state trajectory. The state variable cannot, however, be measured directly and it has to be estimated by a suitable observer. In this paper, we propose an on-line optimization algorithm based on the state observer, and derive bounds on its convergence rate.

Changes in engineering for development of product in the direction of increased complexity, more variants, and customer demand orientation stimulates implementation of advanced information technology in the form of virtual space. For this reason, concept of integrated product model has been implemented in comprehensive descriptions for lifecycle management of product information. Communication between engineer and modeling procedure is a critical factor. The authors identified data orientation of the recent integrated product modeling as a barrier for more efficient communication on user interfaces of product modeling systems. As a possible contribution to development of solution for this problem in industrial professional modeling systems, they propose content oriented layers between human and data oriented models in this paper. Following this, integration issues in content oriented product model are discussed. Next, relevant functions and modeling techniques for the handling of modeled object information are introduced and evaluated. Finally, a method is shown for the propagation of changes initiated for modeled objects in their affect zones.

A new speckle reduction algorithm based on subband decomposition and multiscale edge detection is presented. The subband decomposition is performed using a DFT/RDFT-based symmetric, zero-phase, nonoverlapping digital filter bank. The noisy images are decomposed into sub-images using RDFT transform based subband decomposition, an edge image is obtained for each level using these sub-images, then a threshold value is estimated according to noise variance in each subband and soft-thresholding is applied on the non-edge regions of the subband images. The despeckled image is obtained from the thresholded subband images using the inverse RDFT transform. The proposed speckle reduction method is applied to several test images corrupted by speckle noise as well as experimental RADARSAT/SAR images. Despeckled images show that this method has better performance than the case where no edge information is used.
