The use of demographic data to establish baseline characteristics of first-year female engineering students is discussed. A series of three surveys conducted during the two-course sequence has provided a wealth of information that further informs the significance of the demographic and results-oriented data. Longitudinal comparison of the data helps to identify the different key differences from one year to another. Knowledge of the differences among groups of female engineering students has proven crucial to improve the retention of women.

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is an urban, regional university that serves a primarily Hispanic student population. UTEP has developed an academic model that includes curricular and co-curricular activities. A major component of the project, the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program, is a centralized effort providing funding for selected science and engineering undergraduates to participate in research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor. program assessment includes qualitative and quantitative assessment and the longitudinal tracking of student participants. The results from this comprehensive study demonstrate that the large majority of students who have participated in this program persist and graduate in Science, Technology, engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. To date, 88 percent of the 303 participants have graduated, 6 percent are still enrolled in either the College of Science or College of engineering (undergraduate), and only 5 percent have stopped out. More than a third (37%) have either earned an advanced degree or are currently pursuing a graduate degree.

This paper discusses performance enhancement in G/G/l queuing systems by segregating traffic flows with disparate characteristics into separate channels. It also presents a hybrid integration approach to lower the mean packet delay. We formulate a procedure for determining the optimal hybrid arrangement using an approximate analytical model for calculating the mean packet delay in G/G/l queues. We apply our findings to different interarrivai and service time distributions, namely, the lognormal and the Pareto distributions. We validate our analytical results with simulations.

The authors' main intention is to present the information and key features of available software tools in power engineering. Based on the study presented in this paper, one could conclude that the advanced analysis methodology combines generation, transmission, various elements, and market economics into one virtual environment to deliver location, time, user-dependent analysis results, and indicators. The lessons learned by teaching this MBA course to a class composed largely of engineering graduates are directly applicable to the education of undergraduate engineering students. It shows that students can also be presented with an effective intellectual framework that can be used to grasp the larger societal and environmental context of their 'technical' decisions.
