A Meta-Computing Framework for Collaborative Federated Graph Learning in Industrial IoTs

Owing to strong capabilities in capturing interactions among objects and concepts, graph data has been treated as an important type of information collected by smart devices in Industrial Internet of Things, and the distributed training of graph learning models over these devices brings fundamental supports for intelligent services and operations. However, different IoT devices may collect Non-IID graph data due to different roles in the system, and suffer poor performance when only one unified instance of model is trained. Besides, IoT devices usually belong to different communities in Industrial Internet of Things, such that each community pursues both optimized and rational performance when joining in the training process. Considering both challenges, this paper proposes a novel meta-computing framework for federated graph learning in Industrial Internet of Things. A collaborative resource allocation task is formulated where devices belonging to different communities adopt limited resources to participate in the training of multiple instances either within or across communities. Two algorithms are introduced for adaptive and rational resource allocation based on whether devices are owned by single or multiple communities. Both algorithms provide guaranteed performance on efficiency and effectiveness, and the fairness among IoT devices are proved. Finally, extensive numerical results have demonstrated the performance of the proposed framework in handling collaborative graph model learning within Industrial Internet of Things. © 2014 IEEE.

The paper proposed a secured and efficient data aggregation mechanism leveraging the edge computing paradigm and homomorphic data encryption technique. The paper used a unique combination of Paillier cryptosystem and RSA digital signature mechanism to preserve data privacy, confidentiality, and integrity while maintaining the efficiency of the IoT network. The efficiency and implementation of the proposed scheme have been demonstrated through a case study, showcasing how the scheme can be effectively applied in real-world scenarios, such as in a smart grid network. Additionally, the future scope has been outlined, with potential techniques to address challenges that the scheme may face. © The Author(s) 2025.

Exploring Dynamics and Hardware Implementation of an Enhanced 5D Hyperchaotic Memristive System Inspired by Sprott-C System

This paper proposes a novel 5D hyperchaotic memristive system based on the Sprott-C system configuration, which greatly improves the complexity of the system to be used for secure communication and signal processing. A critical aspect of this research work is the introduction of a flux-controlled memristor that exhibits chaotic behavior and dynamic responses of the system. To this respect, detailed mathematical modeling and numerical simulations about the stability of the system's equilibria, bifurcations, and hyperchaotic dynamics were conducted and showed a very wide variety of behaviors of great potential in cryptographic applications and secure data transmission. Then, the flexibility and efficiency of the real-time operating environment were demonstrated, and the system was actually implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware platform. A prototype that confirms the theoretical framework was presented, providing new insights for chaotic systems with practical significance. Finally, we conducted National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) testing on the proposed 5D hyperchaotic memristive system, and the results showed that the system has good randomness. © 2021 TUP.

Autonomous embodied navigation task generation from natural language dialogues

Robots are increasingly being deployed in densely populated environments, such as homes, hotels, and office buildings, where they rely on explicit instructions from humans to perform tasks. However, complex tasks often require multiple instructions and prolonged monitoring, which can be time-consuming and demanding for users. Despite this, there is limited research on enabling robots to autonomously generate tasks based on real-life scenarios. Advanced intelligence necessitates robots to autonomously observe and analyze their environment and then generate tasks autonomously to fulfill human requirements without explicit commands. To address this gap, we propose the autonomous generation of navigation tasks using natural language dialogues. Specifically, a robot autonomously generates tasks by analyzing dialogues involving multiple persons in a real office environment to facilitate the completion of item transportation between various *** propose the leveraging of a large language model(LLM) through chain-of-thought prompting to generate a navigation sequence for a robot from dialogues. We also construct a benchmark dataset consisting of 625 multiperson dialogues using the generation capability of LLMs. Evaluation results and real-world experiments in an office building demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Stacking Factorizing Partitioned Expressions in Hybrid Bayesian Network Models

Hybrid Bayesian networks (HBN) contain complex conditional probability distributions (CPD) specified as partitioned expressions over discrete and continuous variables. The size of these CPDs grows exponentially with the number of parent nodes, and when using discrete inference methods, it results in significant execution time and space inefficiency. To reduce the CPD size, a binary factorization (BF) algorithm can be used to decompose the statistical or arithmetic functions in the CPD by factorizing the number of connected parent nodes into sets of size two. However, the BF algorithm was not designed to handle partitioned expressions. Therefore, we propose a new stacking factorization (SF) algorithm to decompose partitioned expressions. The SF algorithm creates intermediate nodes to incrementally reconstruct the conditional densities in the original partitioned expression, ensuring that no more than two continuous parent nodes are connected to each child node in the resulting HBN. It generally applies to both discrete and continuous child nodes with complex partitioned expressions. When we combine SF with a dynamic discretization (DD) inference algorithm, we achieve a significant improvement in inference efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that the combination of SF and DD can effectively manage HBNs with complex CPDs that may challenge other algorithms, which also outperform competing inference algorithms in accuracy. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Evolutionary recurrent neural network based on equilibrium optimization method for cloud-edge resource management in internet of things

Cloud computing is an emerging field in information technology, enabling users to access a shared pool of computing resources. Despite its potential, cloud technology presents various challenges, with one of the most significant being resource management within the cloud environment. Specifically, the allocation of physical machines (PMs) to virtual machines (VMs) in the Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) layer aims to achieve optimal efficiency. To address this challenge, we propose an evolutionary recurrent neural network (RNN) for resource allocation, enhanced by the equilibrium optimization (EO) algorithm. This method improves the generalization performance and reduces the architecture complexity of RNNs, while ensuring better adaptability to various demand patterns in cloud environments. Additionally, the effectiveness of RNNs heavily relies on the quality of training data;hence, we generate appropriate training data to facilitate the development of an efficient resource management model. Through extensive simulations, our method demonstrates superior performance compared to traditional algorithms. However, it is worth noting that this study is primarily based on simulation results, highlighting the need for real-world validation to confirm its practical applicability. The proposed method's applicability to different cloud computing environments and scenarios, including various service models (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS) and deployment models (public, private, and hybrid), is also briefly discussed. Future studies should explore the computational efficiency and potential optimization techniques of the EO-RNN approach and consider real-world implementations to validate its effectiveness and uncover practical challenges. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

ABA-IDS: Attention-Based Autoencoder for Intrusion Detection in Assistive Mobility Robotic Network

Innovative mobility aids like smart wheelchairs and walkers are transforming the lives of individuals with mobility challenges. These devices use sensors and in-vehicle network technologies, such as Controller Area Network (CAN), to enable real-time data exchange. While CAN is cost-effective, robust, and low-latency, it is vulnerable to cyber-attacks due to issues like message transmission on a shared bus, ID-based priority arbitration, and lack of encryption or authentication mechanisms. To mitigate these vulnerabilities, researchers have developed machine and deep learning-based intrusion detection systems (IDS). However, these systems often struggle with low feature learning and high model complexity, making them unsuitable for resource-constrained CAN networks. This paper introduces ABA-IDS, a low-footprint IDS that uses a ConvLSTM autoencoder with an attention mechanism to detect anomalies in assistive mobility networks. The model's design allows it to efficiently capture key spatial and temporal features of the network. By preprocessing CAN data based on CAN ID and transmission frequency, ABA-IDS combines frequency-based and content-based approaches to enhance anomaly detection. Anomaly scores are generated from reconstruction errors, and testing on a benchmark dataset showed that ABA-IDS outperformed existing models with fewer parameters. This makes ABA-IDS effective for deployment in resource-constrained in-vehicle networks, significantly improving the security of assistive mobility devices against cyber threats. Enhancing the Kubernetes Platform with a Load-Aware Orchestration Strategy

Microservice architecture is increasingly favored for building large-scale applications designed for deployment in distributed and resource-constrained cloud-to-edge computing environments. As a cloud-native approach, microservices are particularly powerful due to their loosely coupled, independently deployable, and scalable characteristics. These features enable distributed deployment and flexible integration across robust cloud data centers and heterogeneous, often resource-limited, edge nodes. To fully leverage these advantages, there is a need for advanced placement algorithms that can optimize application performance by utilizing the strengths of microservices. In response to these challenges, we propose to extend Kubernetes with a load-aware orchestration strategy, which enhances its capability to deploy microservice applications within shared clusters characterized by dynamic resource usage patterns. Our approach orchestrates applications dynamically, based on real-time resource usage, allowing for continuous adjustment of their placement to match evolving conditions. Evaluation of a prototype system in a testbed environment demonstrates that this approach offers substantial benefits compared to the standard Kubernetes scheduler. © The Author(s) 2025.

Two-Timescale Online Optimization of Behind-the-Meter Battery Storage for Stacked Revenue by Providing Multi-Services

Behind-the-meter (BTM) battery energy storage systems (BESS) are becoming increasingly important in the power system with the proliferation of intermittent distributed renewable energy sources. Stacked revenue can be achieved by providing multi-services to the power grid, justifying the substantial upfront cost of BTM BESS and promoting their future adoption. This paper focuses on optimizing the operation strategy of BTM BESS to maximize the time average stacked revenue obtained from multiple service markets, including energy arbitrage, frequency regulation, photovoltaic (PV) power smoothing and reactive power compensation. Challenges arise from the coupling of operation decisions both among multiple services and over the temporal dimension, considering the different decision timescales of service markets as well as the battery dynamics. The uncertainty of stochastic parameters further complicates the optimization process. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel two timescale online optimization scheme based on the Lyapunov optimization framework. The uncertainties are tackled by making decisions online, and the computation complexity is highly relieved by relaxing the temporal coupling with a drift-plus-penalty technique. Theoretic analyses are conducted to prove that the solution of this relaxed online decision problem is always feasible for the original one, and it can achieve near-optimum with a constant optimality gap. Extensive simulations utilizing the energy and frequency regulation data from the real market validate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Hybrid CNN-ViT architecture to exploit spatio-temporal feature for fire recognition trained through transfer learning

Fires are becoming one of the major natural hazards that threaten the ecology, economy, human life and even more worldwide. Therefore, early fire detection systems are crucial to prevent fires from spreading out of control and causing destruction. Based on vision sensors, many fire detection techniques have evolved with the recent surge of curiosity in deep learning, which exploits the spatial features of individual images. However, fire can take different forms, scales, and combustion materials can produce different colors, making accurate fire detection from an image challenging. Small fires captured from long-distance cameras lack salient features, further complicating detection. This paper proposes a hybrid structure that uses attention-enhanced convolutional neural networks and vision transformers (CNN-ViT) to detect fire. The proposed CNN-ViT first pays spatial attention to every frame and then aggregates temporal contextual information from neighboring frames to improve detection performance. Due to the limited availability of training fire datasets, the study employs deep transfer learning for feature extraction using pre-trained CNN. We used various metrics to examine the efficacy of the proposed approach. The results showed that the CNN-ViT method outperformed previous models based on spatial-temporal characteristics by achieving a relative improvement in accuracy and F1 score.
