This paper shows a recent bifurcation found in discontinuous dynamical systems. The vector field which defines the system has discontinuous right-hand side, and thus it belongs to the class of Filippov systems. Sometimes, in a smooth dynamical system, such a type of bifurcation can be introduced for control purposes. In this communication this bifurcation is briefly described, analysed and a control application is shown through a representative example.

This paper proposes an architecture of a home automation system using a Home Network Control Protocol (HNCP). The proposed architecture allows users to control and monitor networked home appliances using HNCP. HNCP bundle on the Open Services Gateway Initiative's (OSGi) framework is implemented and tested in a prototype of the home automation system.

To implement personalization recommendation of text information retrieval(TR) based in user-focus,TextCC,a feed forward neural network for instantly classification is adopted to classify query results according to user-focuses of a user in the *** results show that the implementation of personalization recommendation with TextCC can lighten the user's burden induced by the work of filtering valid information from vast information in some degree while the time requirement of TR is satisfied very well.

The recent rapid increase in digital signal processing (DSP) applications has generated a need for electrical engineers with DSP backgrounds;however, a university-industry gap still exists. At Southern Taiwan University of Technology (STUT), a sequence of innovative DSP courses, which emphasize hands-on experiments and practical applications, was developed for continuing education in electrical and computer engineering. These courses are taught in the evening for night-school students, and are separated from traditional classes for regular full-time students. This program requires the participators to have at least three years of working experience before enrolling in the program. It enables the night-school students to experiment with sophisticated DSP applications to augment the theoretical, conceptual and analytical material provided in DSP courses. The inclusion of both software and hardware developments permits students to undertake a wide range of real-time DSP projects in the field. Analysis of assessment data suggests that the introduction of Digital Signal Processors Fundamentals course can increase learning interests and overcome the prerequisite problem of DSP Laboratory Experiments course.

Geometric constraint problem is equivalent to the problem of solving a set of nonlinear equations substantially. The constraint problem can be transformed to an optimization problem. PSO is an evolution computing method. It searches the solution space by creating a better next swarm. The new swarm is produced based on the new individuals. Memory particle swarm algorithm is a PSO algorithm that adds a memory influence. We introduce MPSO into geometric constraint solving. The purpose of the added memory feature is to maintain spread and therefore diversity by providing individual specific alternate target points to be used at times instead of the current local best position. The experiment indicates that the algorithm is effective.

A sufficient condition is provided under which the optimal controller of a constrained optimization problem can be synthesized by combining an optimal state estimator with an optimal static state feedback. An application of a model predictive controller is considered that involves both input and state constraints in a system that is subject to stochastic disturbances.

In distributed computing systems, load balancing is one of the most important factors that affect the system performance. This paper presents sender-initiated dynamic load balancing policies in a distributed computing system. There are four policies consisted in the proposed extenics-based load. balancing mechanism (ELBM). For the transfer policy, instead of defining a fixed threshold value in the traditional load balancing policies, we apply the extension set theory and use the average response time of jobs as a factor to create an adaptive threshold value which is calculated by a relational function of average response time, for determining that a new arriving job should be migrated or not. In addition to the transfer policy, a bypass-transfer method is used in the location policy. Jobs that need to be migrated do not need to be transferred to central node first, but are transferred to destination node directly. so as to reduce the communication costs. In order to make the system more reliable, a template queue is added at the master node of the system to reduce the job arrival failure. A simulation model has been built for evaluating the performance of the system. Compared with other load balancing mechanisms, such as RT and ALBCII algorithms, the simulation results show that a better performance can be achieved by the proposed mechanism.
