Learning Management Systems (LMS) are educational tools used to plan, implement and assess the learning-teaching procedure. LMS are continuously acquiring data from students in their learning progress when they interact with the platform. In this work, we use statistically-based approaches to learn about student performance solely using data from Moodle LMS, which is widely used along the educational institutions around the world. Using logged data from several subjects and degrees, our results indicate that the number of interactions with the LMS is a good indicator of student performance and can potentially be used as a measure to track students' learning progress. © 2022 IEEE.

Novel Aficionados and Doppelgängers: A referential task for semantic representations of individual entities

In human semantic cognition, proper names (names which refer to individual entities) are harder to learn and retrieve than common nouns. This seems to be the case for machine learning algorithms too, but the linguistic and distributional reasons for this behaviour have not been investigated in depth so far. To tackle this issue, we show that the semantic distinction between proper names and common nouns is reflected in their linguistic distributions by employing an original task for distributional semantics, the Doppelgänger test, an extensive set of models, and a new dataset, the Novel Aficionados dataset. The results indicate that the distributional representations of different individual entities are less clearly distinguishable from each other than those of common nouns, an outcome which intriguingly mirrors human cognition. This study introduces "InstaSight," a system enabling visually impaired individuals to engage with social media focused on visual content. InstaSight integrates a Single Board computer, head-mounted webcam, and Bluetooth headset for seamless voice interactions. By utilizing the APIs of social media, speech recognition, and Large Language Models (LLMs), users can post photos and videos with voice-to-text captions and listen to comments converted from text or images. This system fosters social engagement, helping blind users connect and share experiences, improving their psychological well-being. © 2025 IEEE.

Technologies toward shopping have been improved recently. technologies varied from tools that assist shoppers, payment options, or even online shopping that provides a shopping experience from smartphone applications. Researchers and industries have been developing new kind of technologies and concepts in hope for a better shopping experience for our modern society. This literature review discusses some of those new technologies that are currently under development process or had been introduced recently based on feasibility analysis. Technologies that are considered including Smart Trolley, VR Shopping, and Just Walk Out Shopping also supported by related researches and literature. Feasibility analysis examined in this study encompass market aspect, technical aspect, financial aspect, legal aspect, and risk identification. The feasibility study is based on jobs-to-be-done framework.

In this paper, we describe a hyperchaotic system with time-delay. The process of the system is composed of a drive system and a response system, which is controlled by an intermittent mode. Double impulses are added to enhance the control, which is closer to the actual situation. According to Lyapunov stability theory, Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI), double impulses and intermittent control theory, and considering the approximation method of delay equation, an exponential synchronization condition of error system is given. The validity of the conclusion is realized by computer simulation. © 2022 IEEE.

New babies bring numerous happiness to parents as well as responsibilities. Parents would better fix their eyes on babies to guarantee everything run smoothly during their growing process. But it’s hard to handle all other issues meantime looking after baby, especially for working couples. Baby Care Cloud Monitoring System help to solve such problem, then parents could get baby status anywhere anytime. It detects baby’s sleeping status through OpenCV computer vision method and baby’s crying through SVM Machine Learning method combined with MFCC acoustic character, assisting pediatrician to make a precise diagnose. The whole system consists of wireless terminal running on Openwrt Operating System and the Media Cloud Server built on AWS platform. The terminal captures and sends the live steaming complied by ffmpeg multimedia lib with the RTMP protocol to server. Media Cloud Server analyzes the received video and audio streaming separately, displays result and store the useful information. © 2018 ACM.

As demand for cloud services continues to increase,major cloud service providers have built many data centers around the world or in certain regions to ensure the quality of ***,optimal data center selection from the distributed data centers of a cloud service provider or a cloud service alliance remains a problem,in part because of the cost of leasing data center resources,which includes the costs of network resources and computing *** the cost of computing resources is easy to determine,the cost of network resources is relatively difficult to determine because it depends on communication *** this study,the distributed data centers were abstracted into an incomplete undirected ***,the cost of computing resources and network resources were considered *** mathematical model of the user's cost was *** obtain the optimal solution,we proposed a data center selection algorithm based reinforcement *** experiment results showed that the algorithm effectively solved the problem.

—Morphological reconstruction (MR) is often employed by seeded image segmentation algorithms such as watershed transform and power watershed as it is able to filter seeds (regional minima) to reduce over-segmentation. However, MR might mistakenly filter meaningful seeds that are required for generating accurate segmentation and it is also sensitive to the scale because a single-scale structuring element is employed. In this paper, a novel adaptive morphological reconstruction (AMR) operation is proposed that has three advantages. Firstly, AMR can adaptively filter useless seeds while preserving meaningful ones. Secondly, AMR is insensitive to the scale of structuring elements because multiscale structuring elements are employed. Finally, AMR has two attractive properties: monotonic increasingness and convergence that help seeded segmentation algorithms to achieve a hierarchical segmentation. Experiments clearly demonstrate that AMR is useful for improving algorithms of seeded image segmentation and seed-based spectral segmentation. Compared to several state-of-the-art algorithms, the proposed algorithms provide better segmentation results requiring less computing time. Source code is available at https://***/SUST-reynole/AMR.
