This paper presents a novel algorithm for reachability analysis of nonlinear discrete-time systems. The proposed method combines constrained zonotopes (CZs) with polyhedral relaxations of factorable representations of nonlinear functions to propagate CZs through nonlinear functions, which is normally done using conservative linearization techniques. The new propagation method provides better approximations than those resulting from linearization procedures, leading to significant improvements in the computation of reachable sets in comparison to other CZ methods from the literature. Detecting QT prolongation From a Single-lead ECG With Deep Learning

Background and Aims For a number of antiarrhythmics, drug loading requires a 3-day hospitalization with monitoring for QT-prolongation. Automated QT monitoring with wearable ECG monitors would facilitate out-of-hospital care. We aim to develop a deep learning model that infers QT intervals from ECG lead-I - the lead most often acquired from ambulatory ECG monitors - and we use this model to detect clinically meaningful QT-prolongation episodes during Dofetilide drug loading. Methods Using 4.22 million 12-lead ECG recordings from 903.6 thousand patients at the Massachusetts General Hospital, we develop a deep learning model, QTNet, that infers QT intervals from lead-I. Over 3 million ECGs from 653 thousand patients are used to train the model and an internal-test set containing 633 thousand ECGs from 135 thousand patients was used for testing. QTNet is further evaluated on an external-validation set containing 3.1 million ECGs from 667 thousand patients at another institution. QTNet was used to detect Dofetilide-induced QT prolongation in a publicly available database (ECGRDVQ-dataset) containing ECGs from subjects enrolled in a clinical trial evaluating the effects of antiarrhythmic drugs. Results QTNet achieves mean absolute errors of 12.63ms (internal-test) and 12.30ms (external-validation) for estimating absolute QT intervals. The associated Pearson correlation coefficients are 0.91 (internal-test) and 0.92 (external-validation). For the ECGRDVQ-dataset, QTNet detects Dofetilide-induced QTc prolongation with 87% sensitivity and 77% specificity. The negative predictive value of the model is greater than 95% when the pre-test probability of drug-induced QTc prolongation is below 25%. Conclusions Drug-induced QT prolongation risk can be tracked from ECG lead-I using deep learning. Terahertz ultra-massive MIMO-based aeronautical communications in space-air-ground integrated networks

The emerging space-air-ground integrated network has attracted intensive research and necessitates reliable and efficient aeronautical communications. This paper investigates terahertz Ultra-Massive (UM)-MIMO-based aeronautical communications and proposes an effective channel estimation and tracking scheme, which can solve the performance degradation problem caused by the unique triple delay-beam-Doppler squint effects of aeronautical terahertz UM-MIMO channels. Specifically, based on the rough angle estimates acquired from navigation information, an initial aeronautical link is established, where the delay-beam squint at transceiver can be significantly mitigated by employing a Grouping True-Time Delay Unit (GTTDU) module (e.g., the designed Rotman lens-based GTTDU module). According to the proposed prior-aided iterative angle estimation algorithm, azimuth/elevation angles can be estimated, and these angles are adopted to achieve precise beam-alignment and refine GTTDU module for further eliminating delay-beam squint. Doppler shifts can be subsequently estimated using the proposed prior-aided iterative Doppler shift estimation algorithm. On this basis, path delays and channel gains can be estimated accurately, where the Doppler squint can be effectively attenuated via compensation process. For data transmission, a data-aided decision-directed based channel tracking algorithm is developed to track the beam-aligned effective channels. When the data-aided channel tracking is invalid, angles will be re-estimated at the pilot-aided channel tracking stage with an equivalent sparse digital array, where angle ambiguity can be resolved based on the previously estimated angles. Template-free try-on image synthesis via semantic-guided optimization

The virtual try-on task is so attractive that it has drawn considerable attention in the field of computer vision. However, presenting the three-dimensional (3D) physical characteristic (e.g., pleat and shadow) based on a 2D image is very challenging. Although there have been several previous studies on 2D-based virtual try-on work, most 1) required user-specified target poses that are not user-friendly and may not be the best for the target clothing, and 2) failed to address some problematic cases, including facial details, clothing wrinkles and body occlusions. To address these two challenges, in this paper, we propose an innovative template-free try-on image synthesis (TF-TIS) network. The TF-TIS first synthesizes the target pose according to the user-specified in-shop clothing. Afterward, given an in-shop clothing image, a user image, and a synthesized pose, we propose a novel model for synthesizing a human try-on image with the target clothing in the best fitting pose. The qualitative and quantitative experiments both indicate that the proposed TF-TIS outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, especially for difficult cases. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Non-invasive, real-time, and continuous monitoring of trace amounts of glucose in near-neutral biofluids is significant for the daily care and treatment of diabetic patients or people with suboptimal health status. Despite improved sensing performance with novel low-dimensional materials or porous structures in various enzymatic and non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensors, they still suffer from high cost, poor long-term stability, and performance fluctuations in varied temperature and pH. This work synergistically combines an Au-modified porous laser-induced graphene (LIG) gate electrode with an organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) to create a flexible non-enzymatic glucose sensor. The resulting OECT-based non-enzymatic glucose sensor exhibits significantly enhanced sensitivity in near-neutral biofluids, the limit of detection (LOD) (0.08 μM in pH = 7.4), excellent stability over time (degradation of ∼10 % in 180 days) and against temperature changes (30 °C–40 °C), self-pH calibration capabilities, and uncompromised sensing performance with shrinking sizes. The highly consistent laser patterning technique and in situ galvanic reduction process for electrode modifications not only provide a simple yet versatile approach to creating low-cost, compact sensing platforms for precise and real-time sweat glucose measurements but also support scalable production, allowing the correlation study of key biomarkers in sweat and blood.

Machine learning models that are used for the prediction and control of production can improve quality and yield. However, developing models that are highly accurate and reflective of real-world processes is challenging. We propose a feedforward neural network model specifically designed for continuous Multistage Manufacturing Processes (MMPs) without intermediate outputs. This model, which is termed “MMP Net,” can accurately represent the control mechanism of continuous MMPs. Whereas existing studies on learning MMPs assume an intermediate output data, the MMP Net does not require such an unrealistic assumption. We use the MMP Net to develop prediction models for the lubricant base oil production process of a world-leading lubricant manufacturer. Evaluation results show that the MMP Net is superior to other deep neural network and machine learning models. Consequently, the MMP Net was actually implemented in a real factory in 2022 and is expected to save 900,000 dollars per year for each production line. We believe that our work can serve as a basis to develop customized machine learning solutions for improving continuous MMPs.

Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) are stimulus-responsive materials with intrinsic anisotropy. However, it is still challenging to in situ program the mesogen alignment to realize three-dimensional (3D) deformations with high-resolution patterned structures. This work presents a feasible strategy to program the anisotropy of LCEs by using chalcone mesogens that can undergo a photoinduced cycloaddition reaction under linear polarized light. It is shown that by controlling the polarization director and the irradiation region, patterned alignment distribution in a freestanding LCE film can be created, which leads to complex and reversible 3D shape-morphing behaviors. The work demonstrates an in situ light-writing method to achieve sophisticated topography changes in LCEs, which has potential applications in encryption, sensors, and beyond.

Corona virus disease (COVID-19) was responsible for inevitable chaos in the human life due to its inherent nature of high contagious across the globe. This very reason also hindered the physicians and healthcare support systems to provide in-time medical aid to the suffering *** diagnosis of COVID-19 using clinical information is the prime source for detection and treatment. However, computerised tomography (CT) and Chest X-ray (CXR) images have found useful for screening purposes due to the successful usage of image based analysis by physicians which was aided by image processing based *** means of screening, diagnosis and prognostic studies using CT and CXR with the help of comprehensive image processing pipelines could invariably augment the efficiency in the respective tasks. The main objective of this study is to implement multi-class classification of COVID-19, viral-pneumonia (VP) and lung opacity (LO) using threshold-based segmented CXR images further transformed using wavelet transform (WT)and Laws based texture representation. Machine learning (ML) based implementation and comparison was carried using Random Forest (RF) and Logistic regression (LR) techniques with of the WT and Laws features individually as well as with combined feature vectors. The ML based implementation was aimed to classify the CXR image based on the individual or combined features into COVID-19, VP or LO pathology. The validation of the ML techniques was further carried using confusion matrix and other validation measures. The performance of the RF classifier was superior with WT features than Laws texture features on individual category of features than LR technique. Amarginal improvement was observed in the classifier performance when WT and Laws based features were combined.

Polypropylene (PP) is an electrical insulation material, and it can store electrostatic charge easily once they have friction with the metal or rubber rollers. Herein we present electrostatic issues in non-woven fabric manufacturing based on the roll to roll production processes. By using portable electrostatic-field meter measurements, we provide a low-cost and highly effective solution for discharging electrostatic charge before exposed or in contact with the operators, and we also identify where to install charge-dissipation technology to make it most useful. We employed the benefit of a highly and localized fringe field to discharge the electrostatic charge along the edge of the grounded metal rod placed at ~30 cm away. After placing the metal rod, the average of electrostatic potential of winding stock roll during spinning is decreased ~10 times, corresponding to ~0.2 μc/m 3 accumulated electrostatic charge on synthetic fabrics. The electric field distribution via the finite element method was illustrated corresponding to the reduction of electrostatic charge distribution in PP winding stock roll before and after inserting the grounded metal rod.

The development and use of a cost-effective, eco-friendly catalyst for the efficient removal of Cr (VI) from wastewater are critical. In response, we have created a Pani/MoS₂ composite for adsorption, utilizing a binary organic–inorganic material produced through a combination of in-situ oxidative polymerization and hydrothermal reactions. This study highlights the significance of using a bifunctional organic–inorganic composite for Cr (VI) removal. The hydrothermally prepared Pani/MoS₂ material serves as a bifunctional catalyst, facilitating both adsorption and photocatalytic reduction. Comprehensive characterization, photocatalysis, and adsorption analyses of the Pani/MoS₂ composite provide valuable insights into its adsorption and reduction mechanisms. The results showed a reduction efficiency of 67.03% after 80 min and a removal efficiency of 73.60% at pH 3 after 24 h. Additionally, Pani/MoS₂ exhibited an adsorption capacity of 29.44 mg/g after 24 h. The hybrid organic–inorganic composite contains multiple adsorption sites, resulting in enhanced adsorption capacity. The adsorption process involves a variety of reactions, including electrostatic interactions, complexation reactions, physical and chemical adsorption, reduction reactions, and photocatalytic reduction, which incorporates simultaneous oxidation and reduction through electron-hole pairs. A study on the stability and the effect of radical scavengers demonstrated the comparable stability of Pani/MoS₂ and the role of radical interference during Cr (VI) adsorption. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.
