This paper introduces ZETA, a new MATLAB library for Zonotope-based EsTimation and fAult diagnosis of discrete-time systems. It features user-friendly implementations of set representations based on zonotopes, namely zonotopes, constrained zonotopes, and line zonotopes, in addition to a basic implementation of interval arithmetic. This library has capabilities starting from the basic set operations with these sets, including propagations through nonlinear functions using various approximation methods. The features of ZETA allow for reachability analysis and state estimation of discrete-time linear, nonlinear, and descriptor systems, in addition to active fault diagnosis of linear systems. Efficient order reduction methods are also implemented for the respective set representations. Some examples are presented in order to illustrate the functionalities of the new library. © 2025, CC BY.

This research work reported a highly selective and stable chloramphenicol sensor based on cyclic voltammetry. The sensor was fabricated using graphene-iron oxide nanoparticles modified on a magnetic screen-printed electrode (MSPE). The nanocomposite has remarkable enhancement in large surface areas, facilitates electron transfer to electrode surfaces, and possesses superparamagnetism property. The electrochemical properties were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The modified electrode provided a fast electron transfer with an apparent electron transfer rate constant (ks) of 0.88 s-1. The proposed biosensor showed fast CV response (3 s) to chloramphenicol with a wide linear range from 0.05 to 0.5 mM, a low detection limit of 17 μM at a signal to noise ratio of 3 (S/N=3), and good sensitivity (22.788 μA/μM). The resulted biosensor also showed high stability and good reproducibility. © 2019 IEEE.

Preservation of executive function, like inhibition, closely links to the quality of life in senior adults. Although neuroimaging literature has shown enhanced inhibitory function followed by aerobic exercise, current evidence implies inconsistent neuroplasticity patterns along different time durations of exercise. Hence, we conducted a 12-week exercise intervention on 12 young and 14 senior volunteers and repeatedly measured the inhibitory functionality of distinct aspects (facilitation and interference effects) using the numerical Stroop task and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Results showcased improved accuracy and reduced reaction times (RT) after 12-week exercise, attributed to frontoparietal and default mode network effects. In young adults, the first phase (0 to six weeks) exercise increased the activation of the right superior medial frontal gyrus, associated with reduced RT in interference, but in the second intervention phase (six to twelve weeks), the decreased activation of the left superior medial frontal gyrus positively correlated with reduced RT in facilitation. In senior adults, the first six-week intervention led to reduced activations of the inferior frontal gyrus, inferior parietal gyrus, and default mode network regions, associated with the reduced RT in interference. Still, in the second intervention phase, only the visual area exhibited increased activity, associated with reduced RT in interference. Except for the distinctive brain plasticity between the two phases of exercise intervention, the between-group comparison also presented that the old group gained more cognitive benefits within the first six weeks of exercise intervention;however, the cognitive improvements in the young group occurred after six weeks of intervention. Limited by the sample size, these preliminary findings corroborated the benefits of aerobic exercise on the inhibitory functions, implying an age × exercise interaction on the brain plasticity for both facilita

In this article, a comprehensive analysis of the approach known as Split-Step Wavelet Parabolic Equation (SSW-PE) in modeling radio wave propagation is presented. The SSW-PE introduces innovations, such as the application of narrow-angle and wide-angle approaches, referred to as NAPE and WAPE, respectively. Furthermore, the SSW-PE demonstrates the incorporation of refractivity variations, modifications in terrain modeling for better representation, and considerations of surface boundary conditions. In addition to its innovative aspects, this study aims to provide a complete guide for effectively replicating the algorithm, thereby promoting the advancement of propagation studies using wavelets. The effectiveness and applicability of this approach are validated through comparative studies with well-established solutions, including the Discrete Mixed Fourier Transform (DMFT) version of the Split-Step Parabolic Equation (SSPE) method. Comparisons with measurements from real propagation cases are also conducted. Statistical analysis confirms the innovative potential of the SSW-PE algorithm, which also offers computational efficiency for rapid and consistent simulations. Thus, this article contributes to a comprehensive and innovative analysis, providing tangible resources for the research community interested in expanding this methodology. © 2024 SBMO/SBMag.

This paper investigates the broadband channel estimation (CE) for intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-aided millimeter-wave (mmWave) massive MIMO systems. The CE for such systems is a challenging task due to the large dimension of both the active massive MIMO at the base station (BS) and passive IRS. To address this problem, this paper proposes a compressive sensing (CS)-based CE solution for IRS-aided mmWave massive MIMO systems, whereby the angular channel sparsity of large-scale array at mmWave is exploited for improved CE with reduced pilot overhead. Specifically, we first propose a downlink pilot transmission framework. By designing the pilot signals based on the prior knowledge that the line-of-sight dominated BS-to-IRS channel is known, the high-dimensional channels for BS-to-user and IRS-to-user can be jointly estimated based on CS theory. Moreover, to efficiently estimate broadband channels, a distributed orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm is exploited, where the common sparsity shared by the channels at different subcarriers is utilized. Additionally, the redundant dictionary to combat the power leakage is also designed for the enhanced CE performance. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

In the Philippines road accidents were prevalent among motorcycle riders. The motorcyclist was required to wear their helmet when on the road. Some motorcyclists didn't follow the rules on wearing a helmet as safety precautions on the road. To address this, policymakers are focusing on enforcing safe and law-abiding behavior in traffic. There is, however, a lack of comprehensive data on the safety-critical behavioral metric of the use of motorcycle helmets, especially in developing countries where the main mode of transport is the motorcycle. Targeted enforcement and safety campaigns that are critical for accident reduction are prohibited by this shortage of knowledge. Hence, The researchers developed an algorithm for detecting the helmet that was worn by the motorcyclist, by using a deep learning approach the object detection was done successfully. Based on the annotated images, frames of video, and live feed data that was collected, To detect active bikes, the researchers taught the algorithm to use their helmets. An overview of the algorithm's success on an annotated research data set and a study of available data on the use of human-registered helmets indicate that our approach is extremely reliable. © 2020 IEEE.

In the area of material science and technology, fabrication and characterization of nano-materials play an important role since it leads to the development of devices with interesting performance and potential applications in electronics, magnetics, optics, and photonics. Among the materials perovskite materials are gaining prominence. In this investigation, thin films of bismuth ferrite have been prepared and the impact of co-substitution of barium on their structural, morphological and optical properties have been studied. The spray pyrolysis procedure was used to prepare the thin films of bismuth ferrite with medium thickness by doping barium with concentrations of 1%, 3%, 5% and 10%. Various characterization techniques were employed to study the films. The presence of barium, bismuth and iron in the samples was confirmed by EDAX spectra. X-Ray diffraction studies confirmed the polycrystalline nature of the films having a rhombohedrally distorted pervoskite crystal structure fitting to space group R3c. The Scherrer rule was applied to obtain the crystallite size which was found to be small. Surface morphology studies carried out using field emission scanning electron microscopy revealed that the grain size and roughness of the films are modified with increase in doping concentration. The measurement results of optical absorption showed an increase in optical band gap with doping with barium. The results of structural, morphological and optical parameters with the increasing doping concentration indicate that these films are promising candidate for applications in opto-electronics, photovoltaics and gas sensors. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd.

This paper describes the theoretical background, design, and fabrication efforts towards a sub-millimeter-scale polar-specific conductivity cell for use at the ice-ocean interfaces. Five different geometries for the conductivity cell for have been conceptualized and modeled. All five designs show potential to fulfill the design requirements. Fabrication efforts on the preferred design have been undertaken using traditional silicon-based processes. Challenges in the fabrication processes are addressed, with potential solutions discussed.

The magnetic nanoparticle-graphene modified magnetic carbon electrode (MCE) was fabricated and the electrochemical effect of diethylstilbestrol (DES) on this electrode was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The factors that affected the performance of the sensor were also optimized. The experimental results exhibited good electrocatalytic activity and a fast response for the electrochemical oxidation of DES. The linear range for the determination of diethylstilbestrol was 1 to 100 μM and the detection limits were 1.06 10-7 M based on S/N = 3. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Tin (Sn) halide perovskites, with an optical bandgap below 1.4 eV, are promising for near-infrared photodetectors (NIR-PDs). However, their inherent instability due to Sn2+ oxidation and sensitivity to processing often results in non-uniform films with low crystallinity. Most research has focused on formamidinium tin triiodide (FASnI3), while methylammonium tin triiodide (MASnI3), with an optical bandgap of 1.2–1.3 eV and light absorption in the 300–1100 nm range, has been less explored due to its instability. Here, we demonstrate that substituting A-site cations (Cs and Rb) and X-site halides (Cl) in MASnI3 significantly enhances its stability, improving crystallinity and reducing trap density. PD devices with modified MASnI3 exhibit enhanced photo-response across the visible to NIR region, achieving specific detectivity over 1.7 × 1012 Jones at 940 nm, with a fast response time (trise/tfall = 3.85 μs/5.70 μs) under low irradiance of 0.104 mW cm−2. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.
