This paper describes the design of a prototype system that uses HD Radiotrade technology: Interactive FM radio messaging system (InFoRMS). The InFoRMS system can send real-time digital messages to remote and mobile LED marquees. In addition to its broadcasting capabilities, InFoRMS uses an addressing scheme that enables the display of messages in selected offices, floors, or rooms in a building. Thus, not only can the InFoRMS system be helpful in emergency situations, it can also be highly valuable as a method of informing people of everyday news.

Digital IIR notch filter has been employed in various communication systems to eliminated unwanted narrowband interference with known frequency. In this paper, the optimal multiple notch filter design is proposed based on the pole re-position technique. The optimality considered is based on the minimization of resulting filter magnitude response from the ideal notch magnitude response, measured in term of numerical sum of error square. Furthermore, by using Grobner basis, the symbolic solution and design method can be generalized to the higher number of notch frequencies case. The design algorithm can be implemented directly on Matlab platform and optimal filter coefficients can be found via numerical optimization/search. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is that the designer can specify additional performance parameters such as stability margin (distant from largest pole to the nearest point on the unit circle), maximum passband gain and quality factor.

In this work, an array of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors is fabricated on a single quartz crystal substrate and attached with poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) micro chamber for using in flow-injection system. The Cr/Au electrode array is deposited on both side of quartz substrate by sputtering through electroplated microshadow mask. PDMS micro chamber was fabricated by mold casting technique with SU-8 mold. Fabricated PDMS micro chamber and QCM sensor array were attached together for using in flow-injection system. In our experiment, the QCM electrodes were coated with the carboxylic poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-COOH) and then the carboxylic group was activated with carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-hydroxylsuccinimide (NHS) for protein binding. The scanning electron micrograph shown the trapped protein on the modified sensing layer, it confirmed that our QCM sensor and PDMS micro chamber can be used as QCM biosensor array. This new QCM sensor array provide possibility of multiple detection in small amount of sample within a single quartz crystal substrate that avoid the error signal from the different properties of each sensor in an array.

In a radio frequency identification (RFID) system, when more than one tag communicates with a reader at the same time, a collision will occur resulting in the failure of that communication. Many anti-collision algorithms, such as binary tree (BT), FSA, and DFSA have been used in ISO and EPC standards to prevent such a collision. This paper develops a new anti-collision algorithm based on the BT and the DFSA algorithms. Specifically, all tags are divided into many groups using the DSFA algorithm. Then, the tags in each group are identified using the BT algorithm. Results indicate that the proposed algorithm performs better than the existing ones in terms of the number of used time slots (the less the used time slot, the faster the algorithm).

This paper presents a novel coverage path planning method in indoor environment for a mobile robot such as cleaning robot. Overall region is divided into several sub-regions based on the virtually extracted doors. The algorithm is inspired from the usual way of dividing an indoor environment into sub-regions, i.e., rooms based on the identification of doors. The virtual door algorithm extracts the virtual doors by combining a Generalized Voronoi Diagram (GVD) and a configuration space eroded by the half of the door size. The region to region cleaning algorithm is also proposed based on the closing and opening operations of virtual doors. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been tested on various real indoor environments using a commercially available cleaning robot.

The aim of this paper is to propose an impulsive controller which is to guarantee the asymptotic synchronization of the master and slave chaotic systems. The impulsive controller is derived on the basis of the Lyapunov theory and the linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the main results.
