MIMO performance enhancement of MIMO arrays using PCS-based near-field optimization technique

Extensive efforts have been made in designing large multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)arrays. Nevertheless, improvements in conventional antenna characteristics cannot ensure significant MIMO performance improvement in realistic multipath environments. Array decorrelation techniques have been proposed, achieving correlation reductions by either tilting the antenna beams or shifting the phase centers away from each other. Hence, these methods are mainly limited to MIMO terminals with small arrays. To avoid such problems, this work proposes a decorrelation optimization technique based on phase correcting surface(PCS)that can be applied to large MIMO arrays, enhancing their MIMO performances in a realistic(non-isotropic)multipath environment. First, by using a near-field channel model and an optimization algorithm, a near-field phase distribution improving the MIMO capacity is obtained. Then the PCS(consisting of square elements)is used to cover the array's aperture, achieving the desired near-field phase *** examples demonstrate the effectiveness of this PCS-based near-field optimization technique. One is a1 × 4 dual-polarized patch array(working at 2.4 GHz)covered by a 2 × 4 PCS with 0.6λ center-to-center distance. The other is a 2 × 8 dual-polarized dipole array, for which a 4 × 8 PCS with 0.4λ center-to-center distance is designed. Their MIMO capacities can be effectively enhanced by 8% and 10% in single-cell and multi-cell scenarios, respectively. The PCS has insignificant effects on mutual coupling, matching, and the average radiation efficiency of the patch array, and increases the antenna gain by about 2.5 dB while keeping broadside radiations to ensure good cellular coverage, which benefits the MIMO performance of the *** proposed technique offers a new perspective for improving large MIMO arrays in realistic multipath in a statistical sense.

An Intelligent Privacy Protection Scheme for Efficient Edge Computation Offloading in IoV

As a pivotal enabler of intelligent transportation system(ITS), Internet of vehicles(Io V) has aroused extensive attention from academia and industry. The exponential growth of computation-intensive, latency-sensitive,and privacy-aware vehicular applications in Io V result in the transformation from cloud computing to edge computing,which enables tasks to be offloaded to edge nodes(ENs) closer to vehicles for efficient execution. In ITS environment,however, due to dynamic and stochastic computation offloading requests, it is challenging to efficiently orchestrate offloading decisions for application requirements. How to accomplish complex computation offloading of vehicles while ensuring data privacy remains challenging. In this paper, we propose an intelligent computation offloading with privacy protection scheme, named COPP. In particular, an Advanced Encryption Standard-based encryption method is utilized to implement privacy protection. Furthermore, an online offloading scheme is proposed to find optimal offloading policies. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that COPP significantly outperforms benchmark schemes in the performance of both delay and energy consumption.

Federated Multiarmed Bandits Under Byzantine Attacks

Multiarmed bandits (MAB) is a sequential decision-making model in which the learner controls the trade-off between exploration and exploitation to maximize its cumulative reward. Federated multiarmed bandits (FMAB) is an emerging framework where a cohort of learners with heterogeneous local models play an MAB game and communicate their aggregated feedback to a server to learn a globally optimal arm. Two key hurdles in FMAB are communication-efficient learning and resilience to adversarial attacks. To address these issues, we study the FMAB problem in the presence of Byzantine clients who can send false model updates threatening the learning process. We analyze the sample complexity and the regret of β-optimal arm identification. We borrow tools from robust statistics and propose a median-of-means (MoM)-based online algorithm, Fed-MoM-UCB, to cope with Byzantine clients. In particular, we show that if the Byzantine clients constitute less than half of the cohort, the cumulative regret with respect to \beta-optimal arms is bounded over time with high probability, showcasing both communication efficiency and Byzantine resilience. We analyze the interplay between the algorithm parameters, a discernibility margin, regret, communication cost, and the arms’ suboptimality gaps. We demonstrate Fed-MoM-UCB's effectiveness against the baselines in the presence of Byzantine attacks via experiments. © 2020 IEEE.

Third-Order Sum-Difference Expansion: An Array Extension Strategy based on Third-Order Cumulants

Recently, numerous design schemes for high-order sparse linear arrays (SLAs) have been introduced for underdetermined direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation based on high-order cumulants, which utilize both difference co-array (DCA) and sum co-array (SCA) of the generator arrays to construct a large consecutive virtual co-array, achieving a significant increase in the number of uniform degrees-of-freedom (uDOFs). However, this processing places high demands on the generator arrays, which require both long consecutive DCA and SCA. In addition, the robustness of the derived array is prone to deterioration, due to reduced redundancy between DCA and SCA. To that end, in this paper, an alternative design scheme for third-order SLAs termed third-order sum-difference expansion (TO-SDE) is proposed, which no longer separates DCA and SCA by a shift factor, but considers them as a unified whole. In so doing, most desirable characteristics of the generator array are preserved, such as the size of consecutive virtual co-array, resistance to mutual coupling, and robustness against sensor failures, while the mapping from the sum-difference co-array based second-order SLAs to the third-order is achieved. By selecting the appropriate generator array, excellent DOA estimation performance can be attained in various scenarios. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Delay-sensitive applications are becoming more and more in demand as a result of the development of information systems and the expansion of communication in cloud computing technologies. Some of these requests will be overlooked in cloud environments due to the communication delay between the processing center and the client’s request. The ‘fog-based computing paradigm’, a novel processing model, can be added to cloud computing to help with the aforementioned issues. The performance of computing systems is always influenced by latency. In this paper, we focus on balancing the load on the fog nodes to lower the latency. It is also a crucial component of fog computing devices. It necessitates the use of load-balancing algorithms to select the optimal hosts, resulting in an even distribution of the load on the available *** provide a load-balancing approach based on the Ant-colony optimization algorithm’s latency rate for responding to tasks. Stress tolerance plays a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of piezoresistive sensing films used in flexible pressure ***,existing methods for enhancing stress tolerance employ dome-shaped,wrinkle-shaped,and pyramidal-shaped microstructures in intricate molding and demolding processes,which introduce significant fabrication challenges and limit the sensing *** address these shortcomings,this paper presents periodic microslits in a sensing film made of multiwalled carbon nanotubes and polydimethylsiloxane to realize ultrahigh stress tolerance with a theoretical maximum of 2.477 MPa and a sensitivity of 18.092 kPa−*** periodic microslits permit extensive deformation under high pressure(e.g.,400 kPa)to widen the detection ***,the periodic microslits also enhance the sensitivity based on simultaneously exhibiting multiple synapses within the sensing interface and between the periodic sensing *** proposed solution is verified by experiments using sensors based on the microslit strategy for wind direction detection,robot movement sensing,and human health *** these experiments,vehicle load detection is achieved for ultrahigh pressure sensing under an ultrahigh pressure of over 400 kPa and a ratio of the contact area to the total area of 32.74%.The results indicate that the proposed microslit strategy can achieve ultrahigh stress tolerance while simplifying the fabrication complexity of preparing microstructure sensing films.
