Intelligent integrated sensing and communication:a survey

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a promising technique to increase spectral efficiency and support various emerging applications by sharing the spectrum and hardware between these functionalities. However, the traditional ISAC schemes are highly dependent on the accurate mathematical model and suffer from the challenges of high complexity and poor performance in practical scenarios. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a viable technique to address these issues due to its powerful learning capabilities, satisfactory generalization capability, fast inference speed, and high adaptability for dynamic environments, facilitating a system design shift from model-driven to data-driven. Intelligent ISAC, which integrates AI into ISAC, has been a hot topic that has attracted many researchers to investigate. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of intelligent ISAC, including its motivation, typical applications, recent trends, and challenges. In particular, we first introduce the basic principle of ISAC, followed by its key techniques. Then, an overview of AI and a comparison between model-based and AI-based methods for ISAC are provided. Furthermore, the typical applications of AI in ISAC and the recent trends for AI-enabled ISAC are reviewed. Finally, the future research issues and challenges of intelligent ISAC are discussed.

The growing realm of blockchain technology has captivated researchers and practitioners alike with its promise of decentralized, secure, and transparent transactions. This paper presents a comprehensive survey and analysis of various blockchain technologies, focusing on their fundamental properties, architectural designs, operational models, evolutionary trends, and overarching frameworks. Through an extensive review of existing literature and empirical studies, this research synthesizes the multifaceted landscape of blockchain, elucidating key concepts such as consensus mechanisms, smart contracts, scalability, interoperability, and privacy protocols. By examining the evolution of blockchain from its inception to its current state and beyond, this paper delineates the trajectory of technological advancements and identifies emerging paradigms. Furthermore, it critically evaluates the strengths and limitations of diverse blockchain architectures and models, offering insights into their applicability across different domains and use cases. Finally, this study culminates in the proposal of a comprehensive framework that encapsulates the essential elements necessary for understanding, implementing, and harnessing the transformative potential of blockchain technologies. Early detection of any disease and starting its treatment in this early stage are the most important steps in case of any life-threatening disease. Stroke is not an exception in this regard which is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. We develop a simple but efficient deep neural network for the stroke prediction that accurately evaluates the probability of occurrence of stroke disease by treating this as a binary classification problem on one of the standard datasets named as Stroke Prediction Dataset available on Kaggle. With the help of effective pre-processing techniques such as SMOTE and FastICA on the noisy and imbalanced dataset, we could achieve improved performance for the binary classification of stroke prediction by employing a deep dense neural network. The architectural hyper-parameters are critically designed with the help of Keras Tuner and consisting of just ten layers in the deep dense neural network. With the help of this light weight deep dense model, we report an accuracy of 95%, AUC Score of 100% and F1-Score of 95% on a testing set. Moreover, we also present comparative illustration of various machine learning models for the aforesaid task along with the comparative illustration of various state of the arts with our proposed model for the stroke prediction. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In real-world scenarios, speech signals are often corrupted by various types of noise, which can significantly degrade the intelligibility and quality of the speech. Noise in such environments is highly non-stationary, changing rapidly and unpredictably. A new algorithm has been created to estimate noise in speech signals affected by rapidly changing and unpredictable non-stationary noise. This algorithm aims to enhance speech quality and intelligibility in challenging acoustic settings. It determines signal presence by comparing the power spectrum of noisy speech to a continually updated local minimum, calculated from past noisy speech power spectra with a look-ahead factor. Its standout feature is its rapid adaptability to swiftly respond to new noise patterns, crucial for maintaining speech clarity and quality in dynamic noise environments. Formal experiments validated its effectiveness compared to other noise-estimation methods when integrated into speech enhancement systems, using metrics like mean squared error (MSE) and signal to noise ratio (SNR). This algorithm significantly contributes to noise estimation and voice enhancement, offering effectiveness in handling highly non-stationary noise and being adaptable and versatile for various applications. This algorithm stands as a substantial advancement in the domains of noise estimation and voice enhancement overall. People’s demand for vehicles has been increasing day by day over the last few decades. A survey tells us that over 50,000 vehicles run on the roads per day. Such a large number of vehicles causes traffic. A survey tells us that over 1200 road crashes occur everyday in India out of which 25% result in deaths. Most of these accidents occur due to a lack of communication between the vehicles. This has led to the attraction of researchers towards the Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) ensuring road safety by establishing an Intelligent Transportation System (Malhi in Comput Secur 89:101664, 2020). In VANET, due to the frequent movement of vehicles and rapid variations in topology, the communication link between vehicles may break. This paper analyzes these problems and comes up with a novel approach to overcome these and maintain the performance of the protocol. In order to assess the performance metrics for the proposed protocol, an analytical model has been created. Simulations have been carried out to validate it and have been compared against similar state of comparative methods. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2025.

A geometric-approach based Combinatorial Transformative Scalogram analysis for multiclass identification of pathologies in a voice signal

Many researchers have preferred non-invasive techniques for recognizing the exact type of physiological abnormality in the vocal tract by training machine learning algorithms with feature descriptors extracted from the voice signal. However, until now, most techniques have been limited to classifying whether a voice is normal or abnormal. It is crucial that the trained Artificial Intelligence (AI) be able to identify the exact pathology associated with voice for implementation in a realistic environment. Another issue is the need to suppress the ambient noise that could be mixed up with the spectra of the voice. Current work proposes a robust, less time-consuming and non-invasive technique for the identification of pathology associated with a laryngeal voice signal. More specifically, a two-stage signal filtering approach that encompasses a score-based geometric approach and a glottal inverse filtering method is applied to the input voice signal. The aim here is to estimate the noise spectra, to regenerate a clean signal and finally to deliver a completely fundamental glottal flow-derived signal. For the next stage, clean glottal derivative signals are used in the formation of a novel fused-scalogram which is currently referred to as the "Combinatorial Transformative Scalogram (CTS)." The CTS is a time-frequency domain plot which is a combination of two time-frequency scalograms. There is a thorough investigation of the performance of the two individual scalograms as well as that of the CTS *** classification metrics are used to investigate performance, which are: sensitivity, mean accuracy, error, precision, false positive rate, specificity, Cohen’s kappa, Matthews Correlation Coefficient, and F1 score. Implementation of the VOice ICar fEDerico II (VOICED) standard database provided the highest mean accuracy of 94.12% with a sensitivity of 93.85% and a specificity of 97.96% against other existing techniques. In this paper, we have identified two primary issues with current multi-scale image deblurring methods. On the one hand, the blurring scale is ignored. On the other hand, the context information of images is not fully utilized, and the spatial detail information of images is lost. To better solve the above problems, on top of that, this paper proposes a multi-scale network for single image deblurring. The designed network contains two parts: 1) Ensemble Learning Model: The Weak Learning Model in this module connects multiple weak learners in series to increase network depth. Moreover, through multi-scale feature ensemble module, the output features and intermediate features of different weak learner are integrated, and finally strong learner is used to enhance the features with semantic information at different scales;2) Spatial Feature Enhancement Module: This module can preserve spatial detail information of images and compensate for the disadvantages of losing image spatial details due to continuous downsampling in the Ensemble Learning Model structure. Our proposed deblurring model has been extensively evaluated on several benchmark datasets, and the model achieves superior performance compared to the most advanced deblurring methods. In particular, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index measure (SSIM) values are 33.57 dB and 0.965 on the GoPro dataset, respectively, with PSNR and SSIM improving by 0.49 dB and 0.002 over NAFNet, and 0.65 dB and 0.004 over Restormer. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Mental health disorders represent a significant challenge in society, requiring immediate attention and comprehensive knowledge to mitigate their widespread impacts. Although considerable research has focused on hub gene identification for one or two illnesses, there is a lack of literature examining multiple common disorders and their implications for drug discovery. This study utilizes a bioinformatics methodology to identify shared and critical genes linked to anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and depressive disorders, along with potential therapeutic targets for these conditions. We methodically collected gene-related data from the National Center for Biotechnology information (NCBI) for these disorders. Through protein-protein interaction analysis, we discovered hub genes, including GSK3B, MAPT, NR3C1, ESR1, TNF, SOD1, APP, CREB1, NOS1, APOE, GNB3, DISC1, SIRT1, CACNA1C, and BDNF. Additionally, we identified potential therapeutic agents targeting these hub genes, including Kaempferol, Simvastatin (CTD 00007319), Luteolin, Clozapine (CTD 00005693), Curcumin, Resveratrol, Melatonin (CTD 00006260), Felodipine, Apigenin, Docosahexaenoic Acid, Diazepam, and Alprazolam, using the DSigDB database. This study seeks to elucidate the genetic connections across mental health diseases and to find therapeutic compounds that may provide common treatment advantages. ©2024 IEEE.
