Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) have emerged as a promising technology for network performance enhancement by intelligently manipulating the propagation environment. In contrast to conventional reflecting-only RIS, the simultaneous transmitting and reflecting RIS (STAR-RIS) extends coverage to 360 degrees through transmission and reflection, offering more flexibility in channel reconfiguration. The application of STAR-RIS in wireless networks holds tremendous potential for significantly improving network connectivity by fostering cascaded paths. However, it remains open on the deployment strategy for STAR-RIS to guarantee network connectivity cost-effectively, especially when considering random blockages. In this paper, we focus on investigating the impact of STAR-RIS on network connectivity in blockage-prone scenarios. Leveraging percolation theory, we derive upper and lower bounds for the critical density of nodes in both no-STAR-RIS and STAR-RIS-aided networks. Our results quantify the impact of STAR-RIS on network connectivity, demonstrating its significant enhancement on network connectivity and providing valuable insights into cost-effective deployment schemes for STAR-RIS.

The virus which generates monkeypox is now emerging as a new pandemic menace as humans overcome from COVID-19. Despite reports of incidents involving monkeypox continue to flood in on every single day, it is not believed to be as harmful or as widespread as COVID-19. The human skin infected with the monkeypox virus and that impacted region might be taken for detecting the disease early since a photograph might be utilized for learning additional information about the ailment. But as of now, there hasn't been an accurate accessible Monkeypox dataset which can be utilized for training and testing DL models. The pictures in this collection can be employed for developing and employing DL techniques with greater certainty. Additionally, we suggested and assessed a methodology, an improved DL based CNN model. The present research proposed a deep CNN model that could accurately identify monkeypox disease with accuracies of 88.82%, 75% and 85.29% for bayes net, DT and RF respectively considering the original dataset. Precision, recall and f score values for class 0 are 0.87, 0.94 and 0.908 in case of RF. While for class 1, the values are 0.90, 0.81 and 0.85 respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

The majority of individuals who are diagnosed with malignant brain tumors do not survive, despite recent developments in the methods of neurosurgery and treatment. The diagnosis of high-grade gliomas at an earlier stage is still challenging. In recent years, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has emerged as one of the most useful research methods for studying the human brain. An efficient MRI brain image classification (MBIC) system is developed in this work to predict abnormality in brain at an earlier stage. At first, the MRI images are represented in stationary wavelet domain. The truncated Singular Value Decomposition (t-SVD), a linear dimensionality algorithm is used for reducing the feature vector obtained from stationary wavelets. Then, Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) is employed for the classification of MRI images from REpository of Molecular BRAin Neoplasia DaTa (REMBRANDT) database. Results proved that the proposed MBIC system achieves 98.8% overall accuracy with 98.6% sensitivity and 99% specificity. © 2023 IEEE.

An optimized MCHVD approach to curtail handover failures in wireless networks

The applications of wireless local area networks (WLAN’s) are highly accepted by mobile terminals (MT’s) due to their high transmission bandwidth and reduced costs. However, in such high speed networking platforms, there is a possibility of unnecessary handover failure (UHF) due to limited coverage of WLAN’s. Therefore, the given paper provides a multi-criteria hysteresis vertical handover decision (MCHVD) approach for wireless systems in order to minimize handover failure by analysing and validating its performance with conventional received signal strength (RSS) scheme of source and target cells. Using OPNET simulator, the proposed approach is tested over 60 samples, which are divided equally among networks such as Wi-Fi, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), and Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) based on parameters like G power as 0.8, threshold energy limit as 0.05%, and confidence interval as 95%, thereby keeping the maximum accepted error as 0.05 and beta as 0.2. An independent sample T-test is done, which reveals that the probability of handover failure (p) is 0.01 (p < 0.05), which is found to be statistically significant in the MCHVD approach when compared with the conventional RSS scheme. The results show that the handover failure rate for MCHVD is significantly lower than that for conventional RSS-based methods with respect to 20 iterations. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management.

In a world where technology reigns supreme, the Internet of Things has taken center stage, revolutionizing our lives in countless ways. Augmented reality, crystal-clear video streaming, self-driving cars, intelligent environments, and advanced healthcare are just a few examples of the IoT's widespread impact. With these groundbreaking ideas in mind, the IoT demands faster data rates, wider bandwidth, increased capacity, swift data transmission, and minimal delays. Addressing these requirements head-on, this paper introduces 5G as the leading-edge technology capable of meeting these challenges. The fifth-generation cellular networks, known as 5G, offer a host of vital features that facilitate the widespread adoption of IoT. These features include device-to-device communication, where devices can directly exchange information without relying on a central server, coordinated multipoint processing to enhance network efficiency, massive machine type communication that enables seamless connectivity for countless IoT devices, ultra-reliable low latency communication to ensure critical data is transmitted swiftly and reliably, and extreme mobile broadband to support high-speed, uninterrupted connectivity on the go. It has paved ways for innovative wireless architecture and intelligent services and 6 G which will be the next step in this evolutionary cycle of wireless networks is expected to amplify this development to new and unimaginable levels. This article gives an extensive overview of the IoT technology, outlining its statistical and architectural trends, application scenarios, challenges and its potential. The research also offers a thorough and in-depth analysis of the current 5G-IoT environment. The use cases for 5 G in IoT systems are also emphasized. As a result, we discuss some of the key 5G IoT research directions and trends. Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) plays a crucial role in cognitive radio (CR) by effectively utilizing unused spectrum and meeting the escalating traffic demands of advanced cellular networks like 5G and beyond. A significant focus in recent years has been on employing Deep Learning (DL) architectures for Radio Frequency (RF) signal classification in CR-based applications. This paper presents the development of a DL-based framework using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture to classify various modulation schemes, including Continuous-phase frequency-shift keying (CPFSK), Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying(GFSK), 64 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), Binary Phase-shift keying (BPSK), 16QAM, Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK), QPSK of a signal received from the base stations in Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) network. The performance evaluation of the proposed CNN architecture will be conducted using real-time GSM signals obtained from nearby base stations. The performance analysis of each network architecture is presented and analyzed. © 2023 IEEE.

This letter proposes a high-gain omnidirectional antenna with dual-band for WiFi-5/WiFi -6 applications. The antenna is basically comprised of several slotted semi-circular radiation patches, L-shaped branch structure patches and coaxial feed sources. Here, symmetrical rectangular slots are used to increase impedance matching. The planar size of antenna is 12×35 mm2, which is much smaller than other dual-band WIFI antennas. Stress is a psychological or emotional strain that occurs due to adverse experiences in human life. This paper showcases the application of deep learning in detecting stress levels in continuous audio signals in the Distress Analysis Interview Corpus Wizard of Oz (DAIC-WOZ) database. The features that have been experimented with are Gammatone Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (GFCC), Log Filter Bank (Log-Filter Bank), Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC), chroma, and Linear Predictive Coding (LPC). Five deep learning models were evaluated: Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Bidirectional LSTM (Bi-LSTM), k-fold CNN with the k value as 5, and a fusion model of CNN, LSTM, and attention. Upon evaluating the performance metrics of all the models, it is concluded that the k-fold CNN model with k as 5 performs well with continuous audio signals. The model has achieved an accuracy of 80% when it is trained on MFCC, GFCC, and Log-F Bank features which are observed to be the optimal features in the stress analysis.
