ARCHITECTURE AND NETWORKING ISSUES IN SATELLITE SYSTEMS FOR PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS

作者: ANANASSO, F CAROSI, M Received the Electronics and Electrical Communications Degree from the University of Rome in 1973 after which he joined Selenia S.p.A (Rome) as a microwave designer in the Development Laboratory. He was involved in several military and civilian projects concerning microwave subsystems for Radar Avionics and Satellite Communications equipment. In 1981 he joined Telespazio S.p.A. (Rome) as Section Chief in the Space and Advanced Programs Division with responsibilities related to satellite payload and digital transmission channel design. In 1987 he was appointed Associate Professor of Digital Signal Processing at the University of Rome Tor Vergata Electronics Engineering Department. In 1990 he again joined Telespazio where he is now Director of the Advanced Studies and Experimentations Division. He has performed a number of studies for National and International Organizations including ESA EUTELSAT INMARSAT and INTELSAT is author of a Radio Systems book a Chapter (‘Digital transmission channel’) of the ‘Satellite Communication System Design’ book by Plenum Publishing (1993) and over 80 technical papers on communication systems and technology. Received the Electronics and Electrical Communications Degree from the University ‘La Sapienza’ of Rome Italy in 1987. From 1987 to 1990 he worked as a Research Engineer in the INFOCOM department of the University ‘La Sapienza’ of Rome carrying out research on design and performance evaluation of multiple access protocols particularly in the metropolitan area network and in the satellite fields. Since 1990 he has been working in the System Studies and Payload group of Telespazio S.p.A. Rome Italy. He is currently involved in projects sponsored by the European Space Agency and by INMARSAT for communications systems via satellite for mobiles both at study and R&D level. Mr Carosi is a member of the IEEE Communication Society.

From September 1981 to December 1983 he was a graduate teaching assistant with Georgia Tech. Since January 1984 he has been with The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory where he has principally been involved with the development of circular overmoded waveguides and tapered waveguide transitions for use in naval radar systems. Dr. Huting is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Jeffery W. Warren:received a B.S. degree in 1982 and an M.S. degree in 1984 both in electrical engineering from the University of South Carolina. His thesis research evaluated electro-optical measurements of surface charging of insulators in low-frequency fields. He joined The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in 1984. Mr. Warren's activities include development and testing of electro-optical systems and the development of high-power low-loss overmoded waveguides. Mr. Warren is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Paul N. Swenson USNR (Ret.):is a project manager for special projects in the Surface Ship Systems Division Hughes Aircraft Company Fullerton Calif where he has been employed since his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1975. Originally trained as an electronics technician during WWII in the Captain Eddy program he later received a BS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester Rochester N. Y. in 1950. Subsequent engineering education was received at the University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Penn. and the Naval Postgraduate School Monterey Calif. After commissioning he was ordered to duty as the electronics division officer on the USSMissouri(BB-63) and electronics ships superintendent at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard San Francisco Calif. When the design of the Naval Tactical Data System began in the mid-1950s Lt. (j.g.) Swenson was ordered to the Bureau of Ships Navy Department Washington D.C. as the junior engineering duty only officer assigned to the project. From 1962 to 1965 LCdr. Swenson was assigned as the BuShips technical representative on the program at Remington Rand Univac St. Paul Minn. For the next ten years he returned to BuShips/NavSea/NAVSEC as the NTDS project officer. During this time the project expanded considerably foreign military sales were heavily involved and interoperability with other services and countries were established. His final effort on active duty was to instigate the redesign of the previousSpruanceclass destroyers into the newerAdmiral Kiddclass improvement program. He is a registered professional electrical engineer in the State of California listed inWho's Who in the Worldis a life member of ASNE and chairman of the Long Beach/Greater LA Section. Capt.
