This paper presents an Intelligent Monitoring System that utilizes the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to automate the class attendance process reliably and efficiently. Conventional approaches for attendance tracking have been laborious and have consumed a significant amount of time, with errors and inconsistencies being a common occurrence. In contrast, the Intelligent Monitoring System combines object detection & recognition AI models, wireless communication, and cloud monitoring to generate reliable attendance data that can be used for various purposes, such as tracking student-by-student attendance data and monitoring overall attendance statistics. The system comprises an ID reader that uses radio frequency tags, a facial recognition system that uses a camera and AI algorithms, and a cloud monitoring system for attendance statistics. The proposed system is designed to overcome the challenges of traditional attendance-taking processes and provide a solution that is accurate, reliable, and efficient.

This paper presents a multifunctional quadruped robot, specifically engineered for comprehensive air quality monitoring and emergency assistance. Designed to navigate through urban environments, the robot autonomously collects and transmits real-time air quality data to a centralized database. This interdisciplinary paper integrates robotics, environmental science, and emergency response protocols to propose novel solutions for smart city infrastructure, public health, and disaster management. Specifically, this research highlights the critical role that autonomous systems play in monitoring environmental conditions and advancing safety protocols. This research leverages a comprehensive array of sensors including CO2 (MH-Z19), particle (SDS 011), GPS (ADA 746), DHT 22, MQ 9, and ADS 1115 converter, each meticulously implemented to ensure precise environmental data collection and analysis. Furthermore, the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as Robot Operating System (ROS), .NET MAUI, Python, and MariaDB establishes a robust framework for seamless operation, data processing, and secure storage within the quadruped robot system.

The utilization of data analytics to gain insights into the game of basketball has seen a remarkable surge in the past decade. Leagues such as the National Basketball Association are continuously exploring innovative methods to analyze game data, an approach that has significantly influenced the dynamics of the game. But to perform these analyses, a growing amount of data is needed, which is traditionally annotated by humans. This work proposes a 3-stage system able to automatically acquire relevant basketball game data from a broadcast video. The first stage is an object detector combined with a tracking algorithm to extract the main elements present in a basketball game video. Then, the players' visual information is analyzed to identify the players based on pixel color analysis and number recognition. Finally, a statistics generation algorithm assigns the game events to the corresponding player and team, so that the system can be used as an aid for box score annotation in major leagues, low-cost annotation in amateur games, or in-depth game video analysis.

This paper presents an intelligent system for monitoring energy usage in smart buildings. It functions as a bridge between the smart grid and smart buildings. A web-based platform is designed to monitor sensor data and track power consumption on the grid. AI technology provides tips for energy conservation based on factors such as power usage patterns and weather conditions. The adaptability of our approach allows for the tuning of automated protocols based on evolving power usage patterns and grid conditions. Data is transmitted between the client devices and the central server via a Zigbee network organized in a star formation, allowing for mutual communication. Our implementation results in the improvement of the overall energy efficiency of supported infrastructure while ensuring continuous and optimized operation in case of a bulk grid blackout.

This paper presents the creation of an innovative autonomous security robot designed to perform security functions with efficiency and reliability. The robot boasts mapping capabilities, which it utilizes to facilitate autonomous patrol in designated areas. Its primary operations involve the use of computer vision to detect violence, identify weapons and dangerous items, and recognize individuals. Critical incidents are met with an immediate alarm and the subsequent transmission of data to a central security server, which then generates comprehensive reports displayed through a web application for security personnel. The application itself features remote control of the robot, incident report management, status updates, and incident analytics. The robot demonstrates substantial real-world application potential, particularly in crowded environments where it could outperform conventional surveillance. The project combines concepts of engineering, computer science, and cybersecurity, functioning per design but with considerable potential for future refinement and expansion, embodying the concept of an evolving technological solution.

Ultrasonic waves provide an effective means of transmitting information through solid media, such as metal pipes and bars. However, the complex geometry of these materials causes reverberations that degrade the quality of communication. In this paper, we propose denoising approaches using time reversal and inverse filtering methods for blind deconvolution. These methods enable significant improvements in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), with the inverse filter demonstrating superior performance in both simulated and real-world scenarios. Our results show that this approach provides a robust solution for improving ultrasonic communication in complex solid channels.

The new era of technology is being greatly influenced by the field of artificial intelligence. computer vision and deep learning have become increasingly important due to their ability to process vast amounts of data and provide insights and solutions in a variety of fields. computer vision, deep learning and signal analysis have been used in a growing number of applications and services including smart devices, image, and speech recognition, healthcare, etc., one such device is an infant monitoring system. It monitors the daily activities of the infant such as their sleeping patterns, sounds, and movements. In this paper, deep learning and computer vision libraries were used to develop algorithms to detect whether the infant was in any uncomfortable situation such as sleeping on its back, face being covered and whether the infant was awake. The smart infant monitoring system detects the infant's unsafe resting situation in real time and sent immediate alerts to the caretaker's device. This paper presents the design flow of a smart infant monitoring system consisting of a night vision camera, a Jetson Nano, and a Wi-Fi internet connection. The pose estimation and awake detection algorithms were developed and tested successfully for different infant resting/sleeping situations. The smart infant monitoring system provides significant benefits for safety and an improved understanding of infants' sleep patterns and behavior.

This research proposes a system that leverages stereo vision and monocular depth estimation to form a depth map from which a 3D point cloud scene is extracted. The emergence of competitive neural networks for depth map estimation presents an opportunity for deployment on embedded systems. Both stereo and monocular depth algorithms were tested on multiple FPGA hardware platforms. To perform acceleration on configurable hardware, a Deep Learning processing Unit (DPU) IP was used for processing AI workloads, together with a Pseudo-LiDAR reprojection for 3D reconstruction on the Arm® processor. The DPU performance configuration will depend on the logic resources the targeted board has. This paper highlights the performance, resource utilization, and bottlenecks that came across different tested combinations of both hardware and neural network architectures. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents the current use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in fire evacuation and extinction. It examines the different approaches to the problem and technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM) and mathematical algorithms that can be used to determine the optimal evacuation route. It also evaluates existing fire security solutions such as smoke, flame, motion, and gas sensors, LED lights, buzzers, and SMS modules. Entities that specialize in Residential and Commercial Security Systems and Home Automation are also discussed, along with the services they offer. The main objective of this study is to understand current systems and resources regarding fire evacuation and extinction systems and to analyze different developments in smart buildings to create an efficient system for fire detection and evacuation.

Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) is a well-known feature-extraction technique for data analytic and pattern classification. As the dimensionality of multimedia data has increased in this big era, it is often to characterize data by tensors. Over the past two decades, researchers have thus explored to extend LDA to the general tensor space, especially in two common ways: LDA of tensors using tensor decomposition methods (by conversion of tensors to matrices) and LDA of tensors built upon the T-product. However, both of the aforementioned approaches have restrictions thereby. A critical problem about how to carry out LDA of arbitrary scatter tensors based on the Einstein product still remains unsolved by the existing methods. Therefore, we propose a novel tensor LDA (a.k.a. TLDA) approach, which can carry out the LDA of arbitrary-dimensional scatter-tensors without any need of tensor decomposition. Besides, for reducing the computation time, we also design a parallel paradigm to execute our proposed TLDA in this work. Numerical experiments conducted over real multimedia data demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed new TLDA in terms of classification accuracy. Moreover, the comparison of the classification accuracies, computational-complexities, and memory-complexities of our proposed novel TLDA scheme and other existing tensor-based LDA methods is made. By leveraging TLDA for high-dimensional feature extraction, segmentation, and user-item interaction data processing, future multimedia recommendation systems can facilitate more accurate, engaging, and satisfactory user experience over the Internet. © 1963-12012 IEEE.
