Band Sampling of Hyperspectral Anomaly Detection in Effective Anomaly Space

This article investigates four issues, background (BKG) suppression (BS), anomaly detectability, noise effect, and interband correlation reduction (IBCR), which have significant impacts on its performance. Despite that a recently developed effective anomaly space (EAS) was designed to use data sphering (DS) to remove the second-order data statistics characterized by BKG, enhance anomaly detectability, and reduce noise effect, it does not address the IBCR issue. To cope with this issue, this article introduces band sampling (BSam) into EAS to reduce IBCR and further suppress BKG more effectively. By implementing EAS in conjunction with BSam (EAS-BSam), these four issues can be resolved altogether for any arbitrary anomaly detector. It first modifies iterative spectral-spatial hyperspectral anomaly detection (ISSHAD) to develop a new variant of ISSHAD, called iterative spectral-spatial maximal map (ISSMax), and then generalizes ISSMax to EAS-ISSMax, which further enhances anomaly detectability and noise removal. Finally, EAS-BSam is implemented to reduce IBCR. As a result, combining EAS, BSam, and ISSMax yields four versions: EAS-BSam, EAS-ISSMax, BSam-SSMAX, and EAS-BSam-SSMax. Such integration presents a great challenge because all these four versions are derived from different aspects, iterative spectral-spatial feedback process, compressive sensing, and low-rank and sparse matrix decomposition. Experiments demonstrate that EAS-BSam and EAS-BSam-SSMax show their superiority to ISSHAD and many current existing hyperspectral anomaly detection (HAD) methods. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Iterative Gaussian-Laplacian Pyramid Network for Hyperspectral Image Classification

Gaussian pyramid (GP) is a commonly used image coding technique that encodes an image as a pyramid that is stacked by a set of images with Gaussian window-reduced sizes and multiple spatial resolutions. Associated with GP, a Laplacian pyramid (LP) can be also constructed to represent differential images between images in two consecutive layers of GP. Such resulting Gaussian-Laplacian pyramid (GLP) performs data compression in a lossless and lossy manner. A convolutional neural network (CNN) consists of a series of layers concatenated in a feedforward manner where each layer has a convolutional sublayer (CL) and a pooling sublayer (PL). Interestingly, each layer implemented by CL and PL in a CNN can be realized by a single layer in GP in the sense that CL and PL can be carried out by a low-pass Gaussian filter operated as a Gaussian kernel in a single layer of GP. This article develops a new approach to hyperspectral image classification (HSIC), called the GLP network (GLPN), which uses not only GP to realize CNN but also LP to capture differential information between two consecutive layers that CNN cannot. Furthermore, by incorporating an iterative process into GLPN, we can derive an iterative GLPN (IGLPN) that can be considered a companion of a recently developed iterative random training sampling CNN (IRTS-CNN) by replacing CNN with GLPN. Since GLPN can realize CNN in a better way, it is expected that IGLPN will perform better than IRTS-CNN and also significantly reduce computational efficiency compared to IRTS-CNN. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Multi-Granularity Prosodic Speech Synthesis with Grammar Information

Personalized speech synthesis involves learning an individual's unique speaking patterns from a reference audio to generate speech that mimics the speaker's habitual rhythm. However, the one-to-many mapping between text and speech, combined with the dynamic nature of personalized speech style characteristics in the reference audio, poses significant challenges for accurate personalized speech synthesis. In this paper, we propose a Grammar Infused Multi-granularity Prosody Network (GMG ProsodyNet) for personalized speech synthesis. Specifically, 1) We model prosodic features hierarchically at the levels of utterance, content syntax, word, and phoneme. We utilize the utterance-level prosodic feature to guide the prediction of fine-grained prosodic features according to the hierarchical property of prosodic features. We introduce a context syntax encoder to improve the prediction accuracy of duration, pitch, and energy characteristics in the synthesized audio. The proposed word-level prosodic encoder can efficiently extract valuable pitch dynamic and speech continuity features from the word spectrum. For controlling subtle prosodic nuances, we employ phoneme-level prosodic modeling. 2) We extract syntax level prosodic features from the syntax graph constructed by Graph Neural Network (GNN) with word as node, exploiting grammatical dependencies between distant words. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed GMG ProsodyNet can effectively encode delicate and personalized prosodic features, leading to improved speech synthesis quality, fluency, and naturalness. © 2024, The Authors. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) assisted semi-grant-free (SGF) transmission, which enables grant-based users to share their spectrum with grant-free (GF) users, becomes an effective solution to the challenge of massive connections. However, this improvement is limited as most of the existing schemes can only admit one GF user. In this paper, we propose a novel NOMA-assisted SGF transmission scheme to support the access of multiple GF users in unmanned aerial vehicle networks. Moreover, in order to further enhance the advantages of the multi-user SGF scheme, two SGF schemes with power matching are devised to further improve the performance by employing the benefits of distributed contention. For ease of performance evaluation, the theoretical expressions of achievable sum rate and average age of information of the three SGF schemes are derived by applying order statistics. We also investigate the high signal-to- noise approximation expressions of sum rate for these schemes to give more insight. Finally, simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance improvement of three proposed SGF schemes and validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis expressions. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Simulations are commonly used to develop and evaluate video encryption algorithms. Although these approaches are useful for demonstrating theoretical feasibility and algorithm performance, they neglect practical challenges and real-world communication conditions. This oversight creates a critical gap in evaluating their effectiveness and security in practical applications. In this paper, we describe a novel, to the best of our knowledge, video encryption scheme that employs a modified chaotic Colpitts oscillator, a customized Josephus problem, and ribonucleic acid (RNA) operations, and is implemented in visible light communication (VLC) environment. The modified Colpitts oscillator reveals significant phenomena, the most prominent for this study being chaos. The encryption scheme involves block scrambling and pixel-level permutation employing a customized Josephus problem and a column and row shifting technique. Diffusion is then achieved through a custom Josephus problem-oriented RNA operation combined with basic RNA operations and cipher block chaining (CBC). Based on the results, we found that the customized Josephus problem-based permutation performed more efficiently than traditional methods, whereas the column and row shifting permutation was more robust. By eliminating key sequence coding and item-to-item operations, the proposed RNA operation reduces computational overhead. This video encryption scheme is proven to be effective and resilient at securing video data transmitted over the VLC channel, and it constitutes a significant advancement in areas such as surveillance, medical imaging, and military communication requiring robust secured video data. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Photovoltaic (PV) system fault diagnosis is crucial because it helps PV system operators reduce energy and income losses. It also decreases the risk of fire and electric shock from PV system failures. Thus, the implementation of fault diagnosis tool is required. The most well-known techniques are machine learning models. Although these techniques provided well in terms of diagnosis and classification accuracy, they rely on manual feature extraction, which is time consuming, expensive, and requires diagnostic skill. Manual feature extraction is a problem that has to be addressed. This paper therefore presents a PV system fault diagnosis techniques that can automatically extract features from raw data in order to classify PV system faults. The implemented methods include long short-term memory (LSTM) bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) networks, which are deep learning based algorithms. Finally, the presented fault diagnosis approaches showed a good diagnosis performances when applied to an emulated GCPV system. © 2022 IEEE.

We present a factor graph formulation and particle-based sum-product algorithm for robust localization and tracking in multipath-prone environments. The proposed sequential algorithm jointly estimates the mobile agent’s position together with a time-varying number of multipath components (MPCs). The MPCs are represented by "delay biases" corresponding to the offset between line-of-sight (LOS) component delay and the respective delays of all detectable MPCs. The delay biases of the MPCs capture the geometric features of the propagation environment with respect to the mobile agent. Therefore, they can provide position-related information contained in the MPCs without explicitly building a map of the environment. We demonstrate that the position-related information enables the algorithm to provide high-accuracy position estimates even in fully obstructed line-of-sight (OLOS) situations. Using simulated and real measurements in different scenarios we demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms state-of-the-art multipath-aided tracking algorithms and show that the performance of our algorithm constantly attains the posterior Cramér-Rao lower bound (P-CRLB). Furthermore, we demonstrate the implicit capability of the proposed method to identify unreliable measurements and, thus, to mitigate lost tracks. © 2023, CC BY.

In this big data era, distributed machine learning and global data pooling have become quite critical in practical implementation of any multimedia data-science technique. The emerging federated multimedia recommendation systems (FeMRSs) offer a promising approach to address the need of personalized recommendations subject to both users’ privacy and data security. However, there exists no quantitative method for assessing the discrepancy between the large original rating matrix stored on the server and the dimensionality-reduced rating matrix produced on each client’s equipment. Meanwhile, there lacks a systematic means to evaluate the differential privacy (DP), which is a critical security measure in many distributed systems, particularly when sensitive data are processed. In this work, we first introduce a novel personalized dimensionalityreduction algorithm utilizing the matrix sketching technique. This new algorithm effectively control the difference between the original rating matrix on the server and the dimensionality-reduced rating matrix on each client’s equipment. Moreover, a randomized DP matrix factorization algorithm is designed to be executed at each client’s equipment. The theoretical proof is also carried out to show how much DP can be attained by use of the aforementioned randomized DP matrix factorization algorithm. Finally, extensive numerical studies are presented to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed novel algorithms using both simulated and real datasets for building the FeMRSs.

Nowadays, multimedia data are often produced by various sources, e.g., Internet of Things (IoT), social media, customer databases, etc. As tremendous multimedia data are produced every day, users or E-commerce customers cannot infer information from such data by themselves and therefore recommender systems have been developed to help users to select the products or services which better fit users' preferences or requirements. Nonetheless, there exists few works on the incorporation of side information or multiple attributes about items into the design of a more robust recommender system. In this work, we propose a novel approach based on the third-order tensor singular-value-decomposition (T3-SVD) to design new personalized multimedia recommender systems (PMRSs) for internet users. A PMRS can dynamically adjust its recommendation strategy subject to a particular user's on-line transaction behavior. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed PMRS based on T3-SVD, we compare the performances of our proposed new PMRS and two other existing tensor-based recommendation systems over realworld data in terms of normalized root-mean-square error (NRMSE). As a result, our proposed new PMRS greatly outperforms the other two existing systems. © 2023 IEEE.
