LBRM algorithm for rule extraction based on rough membership

Rule extraction is a main goal for rough set theory. This paper mainly constructs a new algorithm (LBRM Algorithm) for rule extraction based on rough membership. The confidence principle is established based on rough membership. Thus, LBRM Algorithm is proposed by utilizing discretization and clearness strategies under the fuzzy environment, and is applied to both interval rules and general rules in fuzzy classification. LBRM Algorithm effectiveness is illustrated by a medical example. In particular, LBRM Algorithm integrates the confidence on both previous LBR Algorithm and fundamental rough membership, and has some improvements on rule confidence. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Extended and improved slicing technologies for Petri nets

Petri net is an important tool to model and analyze concurrent systems, but Petri net models are frequently large and complex, and difficult to understand and modify. Slicing is a technique to remove unnecessary parts with respect to a criterion for analyzing programs, and has been widely used in specification level for model reduction, but researches on slicing of Petri nets are still limited. According to the idea of program slicing, this paper extends slicing technologies of Petri nets to four kinds of slices, including backward static slice, backward dynamic slice, forward static slice and forward dynamic slice. Based on the structure properties, the algorithms of obtaining two kinds of static slice are constructed. Then, a new method of slicing backward dynamic slice is proposed based on local reachability graph which can locally reflect the dynamic properties of Petri nets. At last, forward dynamic slice can be obtained through the reachability marking graph under a special marking. The algorithms can be used to reduce the size of Petri net, which can provide the basic technical support for simplifying the complexity of formal verification and analysis. © by HIGH TECHNOLOGY LETTERS PRESS.

Modeling and monitoring of online shopping business processes based on system behavior patterns

Online shopping integrating third-party payment platforms (TPPs) has rapidly developed recently. The integration leads to new security problems derived from complex interactions among Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and the detection of such defects in application-level is costly and difficult. To deal with these security issues at the online stages, this paper presents a framework of modeling and monitoring online shopping business processes from the point of legal behavior patterns. We present Online Shopping Net (OSN) to model the normal business process, and make it as the legal behavior pattern used to monitor system behaviors. Then, a monitor based on OSN is constructed. The system behaviors beyond the legal behavior pattern would be alarmed and blocked. It is a novel attempt to guarantee the security of online shopping from the point of behaviors and online monitoring. Using the active defense tactics, we can effectively prevent the illegal behaviors of the users at application-level instead of constantly fixing bugs of applications. As a case study, we simulate an e-commerce site and a TPP, and the monitor can effectively prevent the malicious behaviors appearing recently. © 2013 by Binary Information Press.

Rising global energy demand, increasing electricity prices, and the limitation of natural resources have led to increased interest in energy monitoring of residential buildings. Much research has been done to examine the effect of energy use feedback to building occupants. An important step towards energy awareness is to provide timely and finegrained consumption information of major household energy expenditures through feedback systems, known as residential energy monitoring systems (REMS). To accomplish this, researchers and product designers are intent on improving the residential whole-building energy consumption estimates gained through sensor networks at homes. Additionally, profiling the usage of appliances and devices within a home can be used to determine an occupant's daily activities and to optimize energy consumption. In this work, we take a step toward creating an evaluation procedure for REMS by determining factors that affect their ability to accurately convey energy usage to occupants. Two feedback sensor systems are assessed in a testbed in which electrical loads typical to a home are operated. Preliminary tests show that the accuracy of the REMS measurement is dependent on an electrical load's power factor. Together with other findings, the results will assist researchers in forming a comprehensive test procedure that will characterize feedback systems in the future. © 2013 IEEE.

C2G2FSnake: automatic tongue image segmentation utilizing prior knowledge

Extraction of the tongue body from digital images is essential for automated tongue diagnoses in traditional Chinese medicine. This paper presents a fully automated active contour initial method that utilizes prior knowledge of the tongue shape and its location in tongue images. Then colorspace information is introduced to control curve evolution. Combining the geometrical Snake model with the parameterized GVFSnake model, a novel approach for automatic tongue segmentation: C2G2FSnake (color control-geometric & gradient flow Snake) is proposed. This method increases the curve velocity but decreases the complexity. C2G2FSnake greatly extends practical usage to tongue segmentation, at the same time increasing the precision. Compared with other state-of-the-art works using different images of tongue color, C2G2FSnake realizes automatic tongue segmentation with greatly improved accuracy.

Impact of the Next-Nearest-Neighbor Interaction on Traffic Flow of Highway with Slopes

In this paper,we study the motion course of traffic flow on the slopes of a highway by applying a microscopic traffic model,which takes into account the next-nearest-neighbor interaction in an intelligent transportation system *** common gradients of the highway,which are sag terrain,uphill terrain,and downhill terrain on a single-lane roadway,are selected to clarify the impact on the traffic flow by the next-nearest-neighbor interaction in relative *** obtain the current-density relation for traffic flow on the sag,the uphill and the downhill under the next-nearest-neighbor interaction *** is observed that the current saturates when the density is greater than a critical value and the current decreases when the density is greater than another critical *** the density falls into the intermediate range between the two critical densities it is also found that the oscillatory jam,easily leads to traffic accidents,often appears in the downhill stage,and the next-nearest-neighbor interaction in relative velocity has a strong suppressing effect on this kind of dangerous congestion.A theoretical analysis is also presented to explain this important conclusion.

Building simulation models play a vital role in optimal building climate control, energy audit, fault detection and diagnosis, continuous commissioning, and planning. Real system parameters are often unknown or partially unknown and need to be identified through historical data, which are currently acquired by heuristically designed experiments. Without quality sensor data, model calibration is prone to fail, even if the calibration algorithm is appropriate. In this paper, we propose a Fisher-information-matrix (FIM)-based metric to examine the sensor data measurements and how their quality is related to the model calibration quality. It aims to provide quantitative guidance in the calibration cycle of a whole building model that takes as many variables as possible into consideration for the sake of accuracy. Our concerned model is based on well-known physical laws and tries to avoid simplification, thereby leading to a highly discontinuous system with model switches due to the seasonal or daily variation and other reasons. Such a model is implemented in the form of a software package. Hence, no explicit mathematical expression can be given. A key technical challenge is that the complexity of the model prohibits the analytical derivation of FIM, while the numeric calculation is sensitive to sensor noise and model switches. We, hence, propose to adopt an automatic differentiation method, which exploits the operator overload feature of object oriented programming language, for robust numerical FIM calculation. © 2013 IEEE.

Optimizing skyline queries in SPA distributed networks

Skyline query has recently received a lot of attention in information service community. The TPAOSS (Three-Phase Algorithm for Optimizing Skyline Scalar) algorithm has two performance drawbacks: (1) in the third phase of TPAOSS, as the number of objects on net nodes increases, the length of bloom filter will increases exponentially, which will seriously influence the efficiency of obtaining replicated values and the occupation size of memory;(2) the TPAOSS algorithm does not consider the computation efficiency of local or global subspace skyline queries in each net node. Motivated by these facts, we propose EPSSQDN (Efficient Processing of Subspace Skyline Queries in Distributed Networks), an algorithm for efficient processing of subspace skyline queries in SPA distributed networks. Moreover, in order to further reduce the computation cost of subspace skyline queries and decrease the volume of data transferred, we present an efficient optimized techniques. Furthermore, we present extensive experiments that demonstrate our method is more advantageous than the TPAOSS algorithm.

According to the randomness of the vessel’s arrival time and handling time, the establishment of a randomly-oriented environment container berths— crane allocation model, the optimizing goal is to minimize the average ship-waiting time. Taking into account the complexity of the model solution, this paper offers the design of an improved genetic algorithm to reduce the searching space, and according to the characteristics of the optimal solution. With testing example to verify that the model can simulate decision-making environment of berths— crane allocation problem and reflect the decision-maker’s attitude toward risks and preferences. The algorithm can gain a stable and satisfactory solution within the operating time. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.
