Transformer is one of the main components in distribution system of electrical power system towards the consumers, thereby any damage to the transformers will hinder the distribution of electricity towards the consumers, and in turn will make the SAIDI and SAIFI levels go up. High temperature in transformers can cause degradation in the insulation of transformers which in turn will cause failure in transformers. When the temperature in winding reaches or goes beyond the limit of 110°C, a degradation in insulation will start happening and the remaining life of transformers will decrease. Damage in transformers will cause disturbance in electrical power system and result in a major economic loss. Before damages occur, transformers need to be changed up until it is deemed to be no longer efficient, this can be done by replacing the transformer that is about to be damaged. To predict when a transformer is about to break, a calculation is made based on thermal modelling according to IEEE Std C57.91-1995 with its most prominent variable being Hot Spot Temperature (HST). HST is obtained by MATLAB programming using Annex G of IEEE Std. C57.91-1995. By obtaining HST, thus the remaining lifetime of transformers can be predicted. This study analysed the effect of loading, hot-spot temperature, and ambient temperature on the remaining lifetime of a transformer. The higher those three factors, the quicker the transformer will break, with loss of life percentage increasing exponentially. The highest loading, hot spot temperature, and ambient temperature given in this research gives percent loss of life of 0.0888332%, 0.0193394%, 0.020753% respectively. © 2019 IEEE.

Solar photovoltaic generation and energy storage are being used to power rural places. However, remote users are burdened by private energy storage devices. Remoteness limits the economic viability of cooperative energy storage. Our work proposes a shared energy storage model considering battery degradation. To test the model, we compared Individual, Neighbor, and Communal scenarios. The system was built as a mixed integer linear programming model to investigate optimal operating methods. Compared to the other situations, the Neighbor scenario saves operational expenses by 4.97%. Finally, the self-consumption rate shows optimal penetration of renewable energy parameters. © 2024 IEEE.

The cofiring of biomass and coal may be one of the most effective methods to improve energy utilization efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas *** study aims to investigate combustion performance,interaction and synergistic effects in the cofiring of coal and three types of *** fuel consisting of coal and three types of biomass such as sawdust,rice husk and solid recovery fuel was selected as the research *** and proximate analysis and differential thermogravimetric analysis with heating rates of between 10°C and 40°C/minute are used to analyse combustion *** of combustion in a 600-MWe steam power plant with a Carolina-type boiler is also carried out with the help of computational fluid dynamic(CFD)analysis to see the effect of the interaction and synergy of the mixed fuel on the performance of the steam *** effect on the com-bustion process in the combustion chamber of a steam power plant is also *** on the analysis of several test results of parameters such as ignition temperature,burnout temperature,calorific value of the fuel mixtures as well as CFD simulation,the results of the study show a strong indication of a positive synergy in mixing some of these biomasses as compared with a fuel mix-ture consisting only of coal and one type of *** no power derating of the boiler occurs until the biomass content in the fuel mixture is~30%on a mass *** reduction in greenhouse gas emissions also appears significant from the results of the CFD simulation of this study,which is characterized by a decrease in the fraction of CO_(2) in flue gas from 21.5%for coal alone as fuel to 15.9%in the case of cofiring excluding the CO_(2) attributed to the biomass.

Conversion of fossil fuels as an energy source can be achieved by optimizing the use of renewable energy. One of the most used renewable energy is solar photovoltaics (PV). At present, solar power plant is an electrification support system for certain buildings because the abundant availability of solar radiation. On this research, Power and energy observations are carried out to determine measure the load power trend, the amount of energy flow from PV to the load, as well as import or export power from or to utility grid by direct measurement on Mosque of Faculty of engineering, Universitas Indonesia. According to the study, the highest power generated by solar power plant mostly occurs at 12:00 - 13:00 with the highest power generated by PV is 2,344 W and the exported power is 939 W, and 32.19% - 55.67% electricity energy savings consumption from utility grid. © 2019 IEEE.

We present a shear-velocity model for the Tangkuban Parahu Volcano (TPV) using ambient seismic noise tomography. We used data from a three-month 55-temporary netwok deployed between October 2021 and February 2022. We cross-correlated the vertical components at each station to extract an empirical Green's function, to generate group velocity maps within the periodicity range of 1 to 6.5 s. We then construct a three-dimensional model of shear-wave velocity to a depth of 5 km below the summit. Our analysis revealed distinct patterns of high and low velocity values, associated with the presence of the old Sunda caldera, unmapped local structures, and surface geothermal manifestation around TPV. We identified low velocity zones indicative of shallow reservoirs and pathways for magma migration from the subsurface to surface crater. Additionally, high velocity zones observed, correspond to cooled magmatic bodies.

This research was carried out to produce fuel (Oil Liquid Poduct/OLP) from catalytic cracking of a mixture of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and fiber waste from palm oil. USY zeolite was previously ion-exchanged by three levels of Ni-metal concentration (1%, 2%, 3%) before used as catalyst in the cacking process. The catalytic cracking was carried out at rasio of sample to catalyst was 6:1, three levels of temperature (400°C, 425°C and 450°C) and three levels of reaction time (10, 20 and 30 minutes).The SEM images and EDX spectra of Ni-USY zeolite catalysts showed that all catalysts were in crystalline form of FAU framework. The highest of OLP percentage, 24.5%, was produced by catalytic cracking at 450°C for 10 minutes using Ni-USY prepared by ion-exchange using 2% concentration of Nickel Nitrate solution. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Many regions in Indonesia are still lack of electricity due to geographical condition in the form of archipelago, including Tanjung Balai Karimun District, in Kepulauan Riau Province, Indonesia. Therefore, using local renewable resources to fulfill load demand is better than relying on utility grid. The potential of using biomass waste, for instance oil palm and coconut residues, as renewable energy resources should be an optional decision to make improvement, not only for the reliability of existing power system itself but also to meet the load demand generally available in every region of Indonesia. In 2016, Karimun Regency in Riau Islands Province as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is growing rapidly in economic and facing electrical energy crisis simultaneously. Addressing this problem, the government has taken an action by making amendment on the policy that consciously planned to increase the capacity of power plants, in particular Oil and Gas Power Plants (OGPP) in the period of 2018-2024. The objective of this study is to evaluate the reliability of Tanjung Balai Karimun power system based on its Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) index designed during the planning period of power plant addition. Then, the value of new LOLP index was recalculated after integrating new system of Biomass Power Plant (BPP). Based on LOLP calculation using recursive method, LOLP index in 2018 decreased from 3.63 days/year to 2.05 days/year, reflecting quality improvement of the power plant reliability. Integrating BPP into the existing power plant has powered up the capacity of 2.8 MW according to the availability of oil palm and coconut biomass waste. © 2019 IEEE.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) has important role in the successful of energy transition and reducing dependency from fossil fuels. Indonesia has started to develop EVs. One of the challenges is charging infrastructure development, includes business model and pricing scheme to achieve business feasibility. This study analyses business model and pricing mechanism for public charging station in Indonesia where a case study is conducted in Jabodetabek area. Monte-Carlo method is used to estimate charging demand based on current travel data and estimated EVs population in 2025. Cash flow method is used to calculate feasible price for public charging with Fixed and ToU price schemes. EVs home charging cost is also calculated to investigate competitiveness of public charging price for each business model. The results show that prices of public charging business model are competitive compared to cost of home charging. The proposed ToU price scheme for public charging is more competitive compared to fixed price scheme, and also effective to minimize grid load escalation of home charging during busy periods. Furthermore, daily cost of EV charging is calculated and compared to fuel cost of ICE vehicles. The result shows that EV charging cost is lower than fuel cost of ICE vehicles. © 2021 ACM.

One of the solutions for fossil fuel crisis is to find alternative energy based on renewable materials. In this research, catalytic cracking of used cooking oil has been investigated to produce biofuel using Cr-charcoal catalyst. The charcoal was produced from solid waste (shell) of palm oil industry. Chromium solutions with various concentrations (1%, 2%, and 3%) were impregnated into charcoal to produce Cr-charcoal catalyst. The catalysts were used for catalytic cracking of used cooking oil at three levels of temperature: 450°C, 500°C and 550°C. The XRD patterns and SEM images of the catalyst showed that the catalyst was in amorphous form. SEM-EDX analysis showed that the Chromium was impregnated into charcoal successfully with amount of Chromium absorbed into charcoal was 0.51%;1.07% and 14.38% respectively. The SEM images also showed that charcoal as supported catalyst and Cr-charcoal catalyst have unique pores. The highest liquid oil fraction was obtained by catalytic cracking at 500°C using 3% Cr-Charcoal catalyst. The liquid product of this process was mainly diesel oil with 8-24 carbon atoms (86.35%) and the rest was liquid product with 6-7 carbon atoms. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Despite of adverse impacts on the environment, landfill has big potency as renewable energy sources since it generates biogas from organic waste degradation process which can be used for power plant purposes. In 2017, the volume of waste disposed to Manggar Landfill was 128, 000 tons, which mostly are organic waste (59.4%). Therefore, this study aims to estimate the amount of energy that can be generated from landfill as methane, by calculating biogas production in landfill based on waste generation, as well as composition using LandGem and Afvalzorg model. In 2017, Manggar landfill produced about 4×103Mg CH4/year or about 5.31 to 6.44×106 m3/year. The estimated methane then converted to electricity using gas engine and trigeneration methods. Using gas engine, methane from Manggar Landfill is predicted to produce electricity about 787 MWh/month. On the other hand, if trigeneration method applied (by keeping the same gas engine as before), it produces 41.8% of heat which convert to 29.3 kWh of cold. In conclusion, it will be beneficial if Manggar Landfill capture and treat methane for generating electricity since Manggar Landfill produces about 6.44×106 m3/year which can be used for electricity purposes of around 10, 000 people using gas engine. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.
