ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, offers coherent and useful replies based on analysis of large volumes of data. In this article, leading academics, scientists, distinguish researchers and engineers discuss the transformative effects of ChatGPT on modern education. This research discusses ChatGPT capabilities and its use in the education sector, identifies potential concerns and challenges. Our preliminary evaluation shows that ChatGPT perform differently in different subject areas including finance, coding, maths, and general public queries. While ChatGPT has the ability to help educators by creating instructional content, offering suggestions and acting as an online educator to learners by answering questions, transforming education through smartphones and IoT gadgets, and promoting group work, there are clear drawbacks in its use, such as the possibility of producing inaccurate or false data and circumventing duplicate content (plagiarism) detectors where originality is essential. The often reported "hallucinations" within GenerativeAI in general, and also relevant for ChatGPT, can render its use of limited benefit where accuracy is essential. What ChatGPT lacks is a stochastic measure to help provide sincere and sensitive communication with its users. Academic regulations and evaluation practices used in educational institutions need to be updated, should ChatGPT be used as a tool in education. To address the transformative effects of ChatGPT on the learning environment, educating teachers and students alike about its capabilities and limitations will be crucial. © 2023 The Authors

In the women's community, Breast Cancer (BC) is a severe disease. The World Health Organization reported in 2020 that 2.26 million deaths occur due to BC. BC is curable if detected early. Since thermal imaging is non-invasive and supports disease detection, it is commonly used in clinics. Compared to other methods, it keeps BC early and accurate. The proposed work aims to evaluate the performance of the Pretrained Deep-Learning Methods (PDLM) in detecting BC using the thermal images collected from the benchmark dataset. It includes the following stages: primary image processing, deep feature mining, handcrafted feature mining, feature optimization using Firefly-Algorithm (FA), classification and validation. Visual Lab thermal images were used in the study. The investigational outcome of this study authenticates that the VGG16, along with the DT, provides better detection accuracy (95.5%) compared to other classifiers used in this study. To justify the significance of the implemented technique, the proposed work not only improved accuracy, but also improved precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-Scores. © 2023 The Authors. This paper delves into an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system bolstered by a simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS). Within this system, a base station (BS) is equipped with communication and radar capabilities, enabling it to communicate with ground terminals (GTs) and concurrently probe for echo signals from a target of interest. Moreover, to manage interference and improve communication quality, the rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) scheme is incorporated into the system. The signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the received sensing echo signals is a measure of sensing performance. We formulate a joint optimization problem of common rates, transmit beamforming at the BS, and passive beamforming vectors of the STAR-RIS. The objective is to maximize sensing SINR while guaranteeing the communication rate requirements for each GT. We present an iterative algorithm to address the non-convex problem by invoking Dinkelbach’s transform, semidefinite relaxation (SDR), majorization-minimization, and sequential rank-one constraint relaxation (SROCR) theories. Simulation results manifest that the performance of the studied ISAC network enhanced by the STAR-RIS and RSMA surpasses other benchmarks considerably. The results evidently indicate the superior performance improvement of the ISAC system with the proposed RSMA-based transmission strategy design and the dynamic optimization of both transmission and reflection beamforming at STAR-RIS. © 2015 IEEE.

Anomaly detection is a common application of machine learning. Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection in particular is a semi-supervised anomaly detection technique where the detection method is trained only on the inlier (in-distribution) samples - unlike the fully supervised variant, the distribution of the outlier samples are never explicitly modeled in OOD detection tasks. In this work, we design a novel GAN-based OOD detection network specifically designed to protect a cyber-physical signal systems from novel Trojan malware called non-control data (NCD) attack that evades conventional malware detection techniques. Inspired in part by the classical locally most powerful (LMP) test in statistical inferences, the proposed LMP-GAN trains the OOD detector (discriminator) by generating OOD samples that are aimed at making maximal alteration to the inlier samples while evading detection. We experimentally compare the results to the state-of-the-art anomaly detection methods to demonstrate the benefits and the appropriateness of the LMP-GAN OOD detector. © 2025 IEEE.

Diffusion MRI (dMRI) is widely used for the detection and diagnosis of various pathologies due to its non-invasive nature. However, its signal acquisition process is relatively slow and susceptible to motions. In order to accelerate reconstruction process, many deep learning-based methods have been developed in recent years to achieve promising results, while most of them are supervised based methods and require fully sampled data which are difficult to obtain in practical applications to train the network. Self-supervised based methods were proposed to deal with this problem to a certain extent, however, they are devoted only to conventional MRI data, ignoring the correlation between the directions of dMRI data. To address this issue, we propose a self-supervised fast reconstruction method for dMRI based on multi-directional assistance. The method better utilizes the information between dMRI data directions by Partition-Replace operation, cleverly constructing data pairs and designing effective self-supervised strategy for bi-directional prediction, which can overcome the problem of data incompleteness and guide the model to reconstruct unsampled signals in spite of the difficulty of acquiring fully sampled data. Experimental results show that our method achieves better reconstruction in the absence of fully sampled data, even with an 8-fold acceleration factor.

Driving behavior safety analysis in edge computing involves the real-time collection and processing of vehicle driving data. Fuzzy models have advantages in analyzing driving behavior due to their excellent ability to handle uncertain information. This study develops a multitask discriminative Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model (MD-TS-FM) for driving behavior safety assessment. To comprehensively analyze the correlation and differences in multitask driving behaviors, the designed consequent part consists of two parts: task-shared part reflects the shared intrinsic structure information that are consistent across different driving tasks, and task-specific part reflects distinct characteristics and variations specific to each task, allowing the model to address the unique aspects of different driving behaviors. Accordingly, the task-shared consequent part is characterized by low-rank property, which mines global structural information within the fuzzy space;whereas the task-specific consequent part exhibits sparsity, which removes non-discriminative and irrelevant information. This sparsity ensures that the model focuses on the most critical features for each specific task. Furthermore, a discriminative diversity term is introduced to enhance the diversity between tasks, which explores the consistent information of task-shared consequents while reducing the overlap of task-specific consequents. Experimental results indicate that the MD-TS-FM model can be effectively applied to driving behavior safety assessment. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Accurate brain tumor segmentation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images requires the integration of multimodal data in effective collaborative learning. However, clinical scenarios often face missing modalities, significantly impacting segmentation performance. In this paper, we propose the penta-encoder with medical transformer (Penta-MedTrans) for incomplete multimodal learning, which consists of four main components: a modality-specific encoder (MSE), a modality-dynamic encoder (MDE), a multimodal fusion module (MMFM) and a convolutional decoder. The MSE extracts unique features for each modality, while the MDE captures inter-modal semantics to address missing modalities. The MMFM establishes and aligns long-range correlations between modal-invariant features and global semantics of tumor regions. The convolutional decoder generates robust segmentation results by progressively upsampling and fusing modality-invariant features. We extensively validated our method on the BraTS 2020 and BraTS 2021 datasets for brain tumor segmentation. Results showed that our method outperforms SOTA for incomplete multimodal brain tumor segmentation across most subsets.

Next-POI recommendation aims to explore from user check-in sequence to predict the next possible location to be visited. Existing methods are often difficult to model the implicit association of multi-modal data with user choices. Moreover, traditional methods struggle to fully explore the variation of user preferences at variable time intervals. To tackle these limitations, we propose a Multi-Modal Temporal Knowledge Graph-aware Sub-graph Embedding approach (Mandari). We first construct a novel Multi-Modal Temporal Knowledge Graph. Based on the proposed knowledge graph, we integrate multi-modal information and leverage the graph attention network to calculate sub-graph prediction probability. Next, we implement a temporal knowledge mining method to model the segmentation and periodicity of user check-in and obtain temporal prediction probability. Finally, we fuse temporal prediction probability with the previous sub-graph prediction probability to obtain the final result. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.
