Volatile chemical products (VCPs), including personal care products, general cleaners, architectural coatings, pesticides, adhesives, and others, are becoming increasingly significant anthropogenic sources of reactive organic carbon (ROC) in China. These ROC serve as critical precursors to ozone (O3) and secondary organic aerosols (SOAs). Therefore, it is essential to estimate ROC emissions from VCPs in China accurately. In this study, the VCPy framework developed by the U.S. EPA was used to simulate ROC evaporative emissions from VCPs in mainland China, and its emission inventory was established. The results indicate that in 2019, the total ROC emissions from VCP sources in mainland China amounted to 9.4 Tg (6.9 TgC) with a 95% confidence interval of 8.4–11.8 Tg (6.2–8.7 TgC). The category of paints and coatings emerged as the dominant contributor to ROC emissions, emitting 6.0 Tg (4.4 TgC), accounting for 63.7% of total ROC emissions, followed by the category of cleaning products at 11.2% and the category of adhesives at 10.1%. Among ROC emissions, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) accounted for the largest proportion, followed by intermediate-volatility organic compounds (IVOCs), accounting for 23.6%. Oxygenated organic compounds and aromatics were the dominant components emitted from VCPs, accounting for 48.0% and 31.0% of ROC emission mass, respectively. Moreover, the mass proportion of oxygenated organic compounds in IVOC emissions was 72.0%. However, oxygenated organic compounds and aromatics were still predominantly emitted in the form of VOCs. Additionally, the O3formation potential (OFP) and SOA formation potential (SOAFP) of the ROC emissions from VCPs were estimated at 32.0 and 0.5 Tg, respectively, suggesting the significant impact of ROC emissions on O3and SOA from VCP sources. Emissions of oxygenated organic compounds contributed significantly to OFP and SOAFP by 33.8% and 17.1%, respectively. By comparing with measurement data, the VCPy framework can

As a highly developed region, Guangdong province has substantial industrial emissions. Its subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by abundant hydrothermal conditions, contributes to a substantial biomass potential. The adoption of potential biomass-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies, such as biochar, presents an opportunity to mitigate emissions and work towards carbon neutrality in the future. However, the current state of the land carbon balance and the CDR potential of biochar in Guangdong province remains unclear. We first calculated the land carbon balance based on inventory data. Then we estimated the CDR potential of biochar derived from agricultural residues, forestry residues, and bioenergy crops cultivated on marginal lands in Guangdong province using life cycle analysis (LCA). Results show that Guangdong province has not yet achieved carbon neutrality, with a net emission (carbon emissions remaining after offsetting by carbon sinks) of 925.63 Tg CO2e (CO2 equivalent, 1Tg = 106 t) in 2021. Emissions from energy consumption account for the highest proportion, contributing 83.8% of total emissions. In the highest biomass utilization scenario, the maximum CDR potential of biochar derived from all biomass types reaches 84.30 Tg CO2e yr-1, which could offset 9.11% of net carbon emissions in Guangdong province. Our findings provide crucial guidance for setting emission reduction targets and implementing effective mitigation strategies in Guangdong province under temperature warming. PM2.5 filter sampling and components measurement were conducted in autumn and winter from 2014 to 2015 at a suburban site(referred herein as "LLH site") located in the southwest of *** offline aerosol mass spectrometry(offline-AMS) analysis and positive matrix factorization(PMF) were applied for measurement and source apportionment of watersoluble organic aerosol(WSOA).Organic aerosol(OA) always dominated PM2.5 during the sampling period,especially in *** pollution was serious during the polluted period both in autumn(31.1 μg/m3) and winter(31.9 μg/m3),while WSOA accounted for 54.4%of OA during the polluted period in autumn,much more than that(21.3%) in *** oxidation degree of WSOA at LLH site was at a high level(oxygen-to-carbon ratio,O/C=0.91)and secondary organic aerosol(SOA) contributed more mass ratio of WSOA than primary organic aerosol(POA) during the whole observation *** winter,coal combustion OA(CCOA) was a stable source of OA and on average accounted for 25.1% of *** autumn,biomass burning OA(BBOA) from household combustion contributed 38.3% of WSOA during polluted *** addition to oxygenated OA(OOA),aqueous-oxygenated OA(aq-OOA) was identified as an important factor of *** heavy pollution period,the mass proportion of aq-OOA to WSOA increased significantly,implying the significant SOA formation through aqueous-phase *** result of this study highlights the concentration on controlling the residential coal and biomass burning,as well as the research needs on aqueous chemistry in OA formation.

Vegetated coastal wetlands, also called blue carbon ecosystems, are significant carbon sinks that play a vital role in global climate change mitigation. Understanding the ecological mechanisms of carbon sequestration in these ecosystems is essential to effectively manage and conserve them. This review focuses on macroecological mechanisms of carbon transfer and microecological mechanisms of carbon stabilization in vegetated coastal wetland ecosystems. Macroecological mechanisms include the horizontal and vertical carbon transport coupled to plant ecophysiology and community diversity, while microecological mechanisms include processes related to soil organic matter dynamics, such as decomposition, stabilization, and mineralization. key scientific issues surrounding these mechanisms include transformation between carbon sink and source, stabilization mechanisms of organic carbon, and environmental effects at multiple time scales. A comprehensive research framework is also presented, which integrates spatial-temporal pattern, macroecological mechanism, microecological mechanism, and ecological engineering. Addressing these key scientific questions within the proposed framework can provide valuable insights into the significant role of biodiversity in blue carbon ecosystems, as well as significant implications for management and conservation of vegetated coastal wetlands under global climate changes. © 2025 Old City Publishing, Inc.

A Dual-Balance Strategy Via Phosphate Modification on Mno2-Ceo2 for No X and Chlorobenzene Synergistic Catalytic control

We report a phosphate-modified MnCe catalyst (P/MnCe) via a dual-balance modulation strategy for NOx and chlorobenzene (CB) synergistic catalytic control to solve the low selectivity and chlorine deposition issues. It exhibits higher NOx and CB conversions than MnCe below 300 ℃, and the NH3 unselective oxidation and extent of chlorine deposition are significantly suppressed. The bond length of Ce-O recovers from 2.18 Å in MnCe to 2.42 Å in P/MnCe, mitigating the over-strong reducibility of Mn. Moreover, phosphate provides more Brønsted and weaker Lewis acid sites, favoring CB nucleophilic substitutions and NOx reduction rather than chlorine deposition or N2O formation. Phosphate confines electrons transfer from surface cations to Cl by the orbital polarization effect. The lower extent of bonding orbitals mixture and narrower band gap are responsible for decreases in adsorption energies of Cl and energies barriers of HCl formation on the catalyst. © 2023, The Authors. Scenario-based assessment and multi-objective optimization of urban development plan with carrying capacity of water system

Efficient Catalytic Ozonation Via C-Sio2 Framework for Advanced Wastewater Treatment: Reactive Oxygen Species Evolution and Catalytic Mechanism

Heterogeneous catalytic ozonation is attractive for water decontamination and catalyst is a core element. However, it is difficult to maintain high efficiency and stability of catalysts under stern conditions. In this study, we proposed Mn-C-SiO 2 -Framework (Mn-CSF) which contained stable silica core and robust carbon shell for efficient catalytic ozonation. The pseudo-first-order kinetic rate constant for oxalic acid removal of Mn-CSF catalytic ozonation was 160% and 875% higher than those of Mn-SiO 2 and pristine CSF, respectively. Mn-CSF was also proven effective in gasification wastewater treatment, where the COD was decreased to 46 mg·L −1 , 37% lower than that of Mn-SiO 2 . These results indicated that the graphitization carbon layer and Mn significantly enhanced the activity of the catalyst. Furthermore, a fulvic-like component and a protein-like component were recognized through 3D-EEM in coal gasification wastewater. It was proven that Mn-CSF catalytic ozonation exhibited higher fulvic-like component and protein-like component removal compared with ozonation. Moreover, ·O 2 − and 1 O 2 were identified to be responsible for organic degradation in this research. Sufficient external specific surface area and porous structure were important for complex wastewater treatment. Specifically, external specific surface area could enhance the degradation of macromolecular organics while porous structures were vital for smaller molecular pollutant removal. The results highlighted that Mn-CSF was a promising catalyst for advanced wastewater treatment, and this study provided new insight into reactive oxygen species evolution. © 2022, The Authors. Increasing cases of lake eutrophication globally have raised concerns among stakeholders,and particularly in *** the causes of eutrophication in waterways is essential for effective pollution prevention and *** Xingkai Lake is part of and connected to Xingkai(Khanka)Lake,a boundary lake between China and *** this study,we investigated the spatio-temporal variabilities in water quality(i.e.,dissolved oxygen(DO),total nitrogen(TN),total phosphorus(TP),chemical oxygen demand(CODMn)and ammonium-nitrogen(NH4+-N))in Xiao Xingkai Lake,from 2012 to 2014,after which a Trophic Level Index was used to evaluate trophic status,in addition to the factors influencing water quality variation in the *** DO,TN,TP,CODMn and NH4+-N concentrations were 0.44-15.57,0.16-5.11,0.01-0.45,0.16-48.31,and 0.19-0.78 mg/L,*** to the environmental Quality Standards for surface water(GB 3838-2002)in China,the lake transitioned to an oligotrophic status in 2013 and 2014 from a mesotrophic status in 2012,TN and TP concentrations were the key factors influencing water quality of Xiao Xingkai ***-para-metric test results showed that sampling time and sites had significant effects on water *** quality was worse in summer and in tourism and aquaculture areas,followed by agricultural drainage ***,lake water trophic status fluctuated between medium eutrophic and light eutrophic status from September 2012 to September 2014,and was negatively correlated with water *** quality in tourism and aquaculture sites were medium eutrophic,while in agricultural areas were light *** to the results,high water-level fluctuations and anthropogenic activities were the key factor driving variability in physicochemical parameters associated with water quality in Xiao Xingkai Lake.

The debate about the negative impacts that production and consumption cause on the environment is in vogue. Strategies that point to a sustainable, healthy, and resilient path are being sought. One of these paths is the Circular Economy, which emerges as an alternative to reduce the socio-environmental impacts caused by the linear model of production-use-disposal, presenting opportunities to generate revenue, income, and wealth with circular processes. However, despite the circular economy being considered an essential strategy to improve overall performance toward sustainability in its three dimensions, recent research has shown that the predominant focus of circular approaches is on the economic and environmental dimensions. At the same time, the social aspects are little explored. This article addresses this problem, aiming to explore the environmental, economic, and social aspects of circular economy in three economic blocs from 2000 to 2020 using the Five Sector Sustainability Model, establishing a baseline to co-create an equitable and regenerative future. The results showed that ASEAN in the year 2000 occupied the first position in the general ranking, while the European Union had the best classification in the economic sector and Mercosur was the best ranked regarding social benefits. In 2020, while the European bloc was better positioned in the general ranking, the South American bloc occupied the last post in almost all sectors. Comparatively, the highest-ranked bloc in 2020 in overall sustainability is more in line with the UN SDG due to circular actions oriented towards the three fundamental pillars of sustainability. © 2023, The Authors.
