This paper explores PentaPod, an invention in concrete armor units developed to protect coastal areas from damage caused by waves and currents. Until now, there hasn't been an armor unit intentionally designed to enhance its stability through connections with neighboring units. PentaPod provides a novel perspective, suggesting that the stability of armor units can be significantly improved not only by having substantial weight and effective interlocking but also by securely connecting them to each other. With this in mind, PentaPod concrete armor can be installed in a random or regular manner without the need for fasteners. Alternatively, it can also be installed regularly in layers with fasteners. Compared to conventional concrete armor installations, the overall stability of structures is significantly improved with interconnected PentaPod, either partially or entirely. In this paper, the results of testing the Stability Coefficient (Kd) for two variations of armor, namely PentaCone and PentaOcta, tested in a Wave Tank are also presented. The objective of this testing is to ascertain the stability coefficient for both variations of armor when installed randomly or regularly without any tying involved. The PentaPod arrangement allows for the implementation of both Grey Protection (using concrete armor) and Green Protection (conservation of mangrove areas) simultaneously, showcasing its versatility and integrated approach to coastal protection. © 2024, The Authors. Nickel oxide (NiO)-based supercapacitor electrodes have attracted great attention due to the ultra-high theoretical specific capacitance. NiO, as a typical pseudocapacitive, is considered to be the most promising candidate as an electrode material for supercapacitors. Herein, the NiO nanostructures directly grown on the Ni foam have been successfully designed and synthesized via the hydrothermal method. The optimal Ni foam/NiO electrode exhibits a high specific capacity of 93.2 C/g at a current density of 5 mV/s. The enhanced electrochemical performance of Ni foam/NiO electrodes is due to the unique morphological architecture which facilitates open access and promotes electrolyte ion/electron transport.

Sedimentation Analysis Based on River Hydrological Discharge at Cipunagara Estuary, Subang, Indonesia

Coastal area is very dynamic. The sedimentation in estuary causes coastal morphological changes. Sediment which is transported by the river flow tends to accumulate in the estuary. Sedimentation also occurs in Cipunagara, Subang and causes the accretion. Based on this Due to this occurrence of sedimentation, the objective of study are to calculate the hydrological discharge, calculate the sediment transport rate, and analyze the added area of sedimentation in the Cipunagara estuary. The method of the calculation of hydrological discharge has been reffered to SNI 2145-2016 while the analysis of sedimentation referred to Van Rijn's analytical equations. The frequency analysis of maximum daily rainfall in Cipunagara watershed was done to obtain the value of rainfall plan. The rainfall plan was then used to calculate flood discharge plan with using HSS Nakayasu method. The flood discharge plan with 2-years return period was chosen to determine the flow rate at STA 1 in Cipunagara River. Furthermore, the flowrate and sediment characteristic at STA 1 is used as the parameter to determine the sediment transport rate at STA 1. The sediment transport rate from January to December are calculated to obtain the volumetric value of the transported sediment which then used for the added area of sedimentation analysis at STA6 and STA 9 in Cipunagara estuary. In this study, the value of flood discharge plan from January to December was obtained as, 328,41 m3/s, 275,96 m3/s, 247,62 m3/s, 300,25 m3/s, 212,19 m3/s, 129,84 m3/s, 142,14 m3/s, 67,83 m3/s, 52,93 m3/s, 160,33 m3/s, 266,60 m3/s, and 299,44 m3/s. The added area of sedimentation over one year at STA 6 and STA 9 are 320,04 ha/year and 182,88 ha/year with scheme A and 337,33 ha/year and 203,36 ha/year with sheme B.

Status of heavy metal in sediment of Saguling Lake, West Java

The quality of water in the Saguling lake has been monitored since 1990 by the state agency for environmental control. However, no data on heavy metal in sediment had been reported. Metal pollutans have receives considerable attention due to their persistence, biogeochemical recycling, and environmental risk. The objective of this study was to assess the level contamination of heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, and Pb) in the surface sediment of the Saguling Lake West Java. Surface sediment samples were collected from 10 location of the Saguling Lake on July and November 2015. The concentration of heavy metals in the surface sediment on July and November 2015 decreased in the order of Cu>Cr>Pb>Cd and Cr>Cu>Pb>Cd respectively. Mean metals concentrations (mg/kg) in July 2015 were in the range of: Cd: 10.69-16.65, Cr: 76.67-138.38, Cu:106.02-229.54, Pb: 23.93-80.17. Mean metals concentrations (mg/kg) in November 2015 were in the range of Cd: 18.64-23.25, Cr: 152.16-197.98, Cu: 63.32-152.53, Pb: 20.31-32.74. Geochemical approaches such as contamination factor, and pollution load index were exploited for the assessment of the contamination and enrichment level of heavy metals in the lake sediment. Contamination factor and pollution load index values indicated that surface sediments around Saguling Lake were polluted with heavy metals. The finding of this study would help in formulating guidelines to control the pollution and suggested for Saguling lake revitalization.

Small hydropower spot prediction using SWAT and a diversion algorithm, case study: Upper Citarum Basin

Small-Scale Hydropower (SHP) had been important electric energy power source in Indonesia. Indonesia is vast countries, consists of more than 17.000 islands. It has large fresh water resource about 3 m of rainfall and 2 m of runoff. Much of its topography is mountainous, remote but abundant with potential energy. Millions of people do not have sufficient access to electricity, some live in the remote places. Recently, SHP development was encouraged for energy supply of the places. Development of global hydrology data provides opportunity to predict distribution of hydropower potential. In this paper, we demonstrate run-of-river type SHP spot prediction tool using SWAT and a river diversion algorithm. The use of Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) with input of CFSR (Climate Forecast System Re-analysis) of 10 years period had been implemented to predict spatially distributed flow cumulative distribution function (CDF). A simple algorithm to maximize potential head of a location by a river diversion expressing head race and penstock had been applied. Firm flow and power of the SHP were estimated from the CDF and the algorithm. The tool applied to Upper Citarum River Basin and three out of four existing hydropower locations had been well predicted. The result implies that this tool is able to support acceleration of SHP development at earlier phase.

Evaluation of implementation viability gap funding (VGF) policy on toll road investment in Indonesia

VGF policy for toll road investment in Indonesia must be reviewed. Since 2012 the Government of Indonesia (GOI) has issued viability gap funding (VGF) policy for PPP infrastructure project through ministry of finance decision (PMK) No.223/2012. One of VGF purpose is to improve the financial feasibility. In the toll road investment in Indonesia, the implementation of this policy has some problems. This study aimed to evaluate the policy by seeking implementation constraints so can be given an alternative. This research was conducted qualitatively, included aspects of implementation process VGF policy. The analysis process is based on literature study and in-depth interviews to related parties include business entity, ministry of finance, and the ministry of public works, Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPJT) and professional societies. The literature review conducted by reviewing existing policies and best practices in countries that already practice VGF. The conclusion of this study are 1) There is a conflict of regulation in viability gap funding (VGF) for toll road investment in Indonesia; 2) If Government of Indonesia (GOI) want implement construction grant as VGF, so the regulation must improve in time limited for submission and clearly define limited given in regulation; 3) If GOI want implement partial construction as VGF, so the regulation must be improve in guideline for submission and given.

Current Characteristics and Shoreline Change at Pondok-Bali, North Coast-West Java of Indonesia

Numerical model of shoreline change by GENESIS (Generalized Model for Simulating Shoreline Change) and some field surveys were performed in the Pondok-bali Subang Distric of Indonesia. The objective of this investigation is to learn the cause of shoreline retreat that happen in Pondok-bali and its surrounding area in ten years nowadays. Based on field observation and the study result, we found that the waves occurred in East-wind monsoon, rip current and inundation due to water level raised have the significant contribution on an impact to shoreline retreat in Pondok -Bali.
